An excellent beer. It's one of DFH's best beers, besides the "Ancient" series of beers and some of its seasonals. It's not as heavy as a porter or stout. The smell of this beer was pretty floral til' I started drinking it. It has a toffee/burnt coffee-like taste. Not very bitter, too! It's pretty quaffable and it begs to be served alongside with something heavy, like a big hamburger or some ribs, I'll get another one of these someday cause' some beer stores have it.
I really did not like my first IBA Dogfish but my second one a few nights later I really enjoyed it... I really dont like the beer touching my cheeks in my mouthcuz I get a weird sour taste but on my toung its really tastey .
I'm having one of these, I agree with you that this beer tastes similar to a scotch ale, not a lot of hop notes on this one. Still, it's an awesome brew.
Just got to try this tonight on tap. It's very good, but I must say I don't taste the IPA in it. I taste more of either a stout or a porter. That coffee/toffee taste is prominent after the scotch maltiness dissipates. Glad I finally found this beer. DFH makes some great stuff.
I am very glad you got to try it. And thanks for being completly honest. It is very important we get as many opinions as possible so others can get a better idea of what to expect. Thanks for watching.
just picked up a chicory stout from the dogfish brewery and checked to see if you did a review of it.
it sucks that you cant get dogfish down there. its some good beer. probably the only crafted beer that i can get that you cant. (unless you can get red hook)
i agree with your review on the indian brown ale but the chicory stout is much better IMO.
i wasn't a fan of the IPA from dogfish it would just barely be a thumb up if i was grading that one
I know I really wish I could get their beers here. But I am hopeful that this year they will finally make it here. I might even send them a email and ask them if it is going to happen.
One of my favorites. It's a shame you can't get it. They have alot of great beers. However it seems that the actual brews are hit or miss. Problems in production can cause you to get 1 great beer in a 6 pack and 5 TERRIBLE ones. The beer dudes often speak about this and I have to say I agree.
I think that is a problem with a lot of breweries. But we put up with it cuz the ones that are good, are great!! They should be distributing out this way sometime the first quarter of 2010. So I am keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for watching.
Sweet shirt JoeD. This is one of my favorite beers - to me it's almost more of a coffee taste with some burnt malts to it which I find to be more of a brown ale. I find the sweetness to be more related to it as well, although the alcohol is quite high which could add to it. You must really love this one, dig in fast!
It will be a while I have a ton of other reviews to get out way before that one. I have at least 25 beers waiting to review first before I even consider it. Thanks for watching.
Thanks, Joe Dizzle! another great review. Can you please review some of the different selections \Brooklyn Brewery beers- the Chocolate stout, etc.? cool man, Thanks!
I agree 100% Joe D, when I finally had this beer I was actually somewhat disappointed because I'm a total hophead. I was expected a caramelly, malty IPA. But really, what I got was flavorful Scotch Ale. I'd still give it 2 thumbs up, but it's not what I expected. If you want an Indian Brown Ale that tastes like it sounds, try Terrapin Indian Brown Ale. If you can't get terrapin I'll just include it in my care package when I finally ship it out next week.
Great Review! I got more brown ale flavors out of it when I had this one on tap. But still an awesome beer from the bottle too. Thanks for the shout out
Ha ha, that laugh was great. I havent found any dogfish head beer in my area yet, but Im gonna keep looking. I too love the brown ales... they are my favorites.
I have yet to have this one....but I have yet to have a bad Dogfish beer...there are some I like better than others...but I have yet to have a bad one. I'm visiting the brewery and brewpub on my B day next Staurday.....totally looking forward to it. Sam Adams also makes a great brown ale...just tried it for the first time last night. If there any other Dogfish beers you would like to try....give me a shout...I'm sure I could easilly get it out to you
this is a fucking digusting beer... tastes like beer and whiskey!

Spicy/sweet (like cloves almost), with a hoppy bitter finish. No after taste, smooth, smelled great, awesome beer.
