They fought off being invaded but without the US supplying them with food and war materiel they wouldn't have survived. The U.S. and the Soviets were the winners, but all the allies worked together.

What we started to mass produce things and that helped out. I heard the ship the "Yorktown" has to be fixed before a battle and it was estimated to take 2 weeks and they did it in 48 hrs!

The Japs made a calculation and predicted that the americans could not have more than 2-3 atomic bombs and decided to carry on the war in the hope that the americans will agree to a conditional surrender.
Most WW2 books will credit the USSR on bringing down Germany.

@AMHRock1 the japanese did attack Russia...the japanese at the time were confident that they could conquer China, so they had 2 other options, invade the Soviets to the north or head south into the pacific to conquer Australia and fighting America at the same time. They chose to invade the Soviet Union, at the battle of Khalin Gol, the japanese were decimated by Soviet t-34tanks and decided that they can't keep fighting Russia, so they switched to attacking America instead.

Britain only lost about 300,000 people France lost less than 100,000 people, but the U.S. lost 500,000, somehow that makes it a big deal to us. They fought off being invaded but without the US supplying them with food and war materiel they wouldn't have survived. The U.S. and the Soviets were the winners, but all the allies worked together.

@RulerOfMalta We didn't want another European war and after the "Treaty of Versailles" every military had to cut back dramatically. We couldn't do much except lend aid and war materiel. What we started to mass produce things and that helped out. I heard the ship the "Yorktown" has to be fixed before a battle and it was estimated to take 2 weeks and they did it in 48 hrs!
Yes, they were impressive as an island and that's how they survived.

@w33d0wnz69 The 2 atomic bombs was not the final blow to japan... The USSR joining the war against japan after the atomic bomb by attacking the japanese army in Manchuria was the final blow. The Japs made a calculation and predicted that the americans could not have more than 2-3 atomic bombs and decided to carry on the war in the hope that the americans will agree to a conditional surrender.
Most WW2 books will credit the USSR on bringing down Germany.

Canada landed on one of the five beaches on D Day for instance and by the way had the third largest navy by the end of WW2. An amazing contribution for a couintry that had only 10 million people at the time.

The German surface fleet was a joke and the Luftwaffe were defeated by the RAF. Please back up your comments by explaining the logistical details of a German invasion of Britain. Do you imagine the Wermacht sending tanks underwater? Maybe Scuba soldiers too, hmm?
Also tell us how the Soviet Union would have defeated the Third Reich without British and American bombers obliterating German cities and sending them sea born convoys of material supplies?

@madhammudeux well, the russians did play a key roal iin ww2, but your right. they never couldent of saved europe alone mostly because germany could of sent all there forces to the east instead of spreding out their forces

@lemonboy53 yes but they didnt do all the work. the us and russia worked together pritty impressivly compared to the cold war. russia did save europe, but not withouht america, britan, canida,france, and all the other countries that helped

@RulerOfMalta Russia did a large majority of the work, after all germans on the eastern front were more well trained and experienced than those on the western front, the Soviet Union didn't do all the work, but they did the most out of any of the allies.

According to Boy George (a British ambassador in the 1980s), war is stupid and people are stupid. But most people love war, especially Germans and Cumraqiis. War in America helps to stimulate patriotic love for the president and your mom, and everyone gets more pie.

@TheHockeyfreak1964 on the long run they would have definitey went to war with Russia anyway because of deep idealistic differences. Hitler should have kept the pact, taken out the west, then jumped russia, but by that time russia would have been fighting fit. I doubt that the war couldve ended in any other way with the way, but Germany would have been a lot stronger with the new raw materials from conquered countries.

@AMHRock1 the japanese did attack Russia...the japanese at the time were confident that they could conquer China, so they had 2 other options, invade the Soviets to the north or head south into the pacific to conquer Australia and fighting America at the same time. They chose to invade the Soviet Union, at the battle of Khalin Gol, the japanese were decimated by Soviet t-34tanks and decided that they can't keep fighting Russia, so they switched to attacking America instead.

@w33d0wnz69 well it was the better option, the Japanese fleet, planes and pilots were at first better than the Americans, the only reason japan lost ww2 was because they ran out of supplies, if japan had just a quarter of the supplies the Americans had, god help them, all japanese soldiers would fight to the very end for the country, americans would not...

Britain only lost about 300,000 people France lost less than 100,000 people, but the U.S. lost 500,000, somehow that makes it a big deal to us. Now compared to the Soviet Union we didn't lose nearly that many and if you want to look at civilian populations than yes European countries did lose way more. I'm sure if Hitler had a way of coming to bomb the U.S. like the "New York Rocket" which was thought up, then he definately would have. Also without the U.S. you'd be speaking German.

While the US did help immensely as they pretty much defeated japan on their own in an extremely brutal war, in the European theatre, the real heroes were the partisans of individual nations, for example the albanian, yugoslav, estonian, latvian, italian, wehrmacht deserters, polish partisans, etc i could go on and on. the ones who had to fight for their own countries that were being torn apart
