cant remember who said it but it looks like it suits this video " fighting a thai muay thai fighter is like being kicked down a flight of staires by someone who weighs less than ur little sister"
k-1 simply has rules that allow a broad variety of fighting styles, elbowing was considered too dangerous, to illustrate how dangerous it is, have a muay thai fighter get a good elbow to your head
k-1 isnt even branded as muay thai u spanner its just a draft off using sum of the rules but putting different stand up fighting styles against each other so before u comment do ur homework so u dont look liek such a dick
My friends little brother was fighting pro at 11 years old, and he got 15 US dollars every time he won! =D Yay, he could buy a whole candy bar with what he got for getting the crap beat out of him! =D Thailand, people fight pro MuayThai at very young! o.O
I realise these guys have very good standup, but suggesting they would beat an MMA fighter is just ignorant. The MMA fighter may not be able to standup with the Thai, but he'll just take the Thai down and submit him.
@wtflol90 I'm not just a "ufc fanboy" as you call it, I'm just not being blindly ignorant. Very few MMA fighters would be able to stand and trade blows with these guys, but Muay Thai fighters don't have a ground game.
@LiNaK37 Generaly speaking, muay thai fighters from thailand have a smaller build than the MMA fighters from the west as well. that might be practical for speed kicks and strikes, but it's a big disadvantage when it comes to takedowns
@LiNaK37 He'll submit the thai if the thai don't kick his head off before. Just because he CAN submit the thai doesn't means he WILL. Try to grab a guy that's hitting you with his knees and elbows when you're close. If you're not fast enough, you're down. And I haven't seen many fast fighters in UFC, just a few.
@whereshitrise90 Listen, pure grapplers underestimate strikers, and pure strikers underestimate grapplers. In the early UFC's striker would go in there with the attitude that nobody was fast enough to take them down, but within seconds their ass would meet the mat. Look at Thiago Alves vs GSP, Thiago said before the fight he would knee GSP when he shot, which obviously didn't work. People truly underestimate how fast an experienced wrestler can shoot for a takedown.
@LiNaK37 Yes, but seems like you are understimating strikers like muay thai fighters. The way you said sounded like it's easy to submit a pure striker, and we know it's not easy like that. It's not impossible, but it's not just like grab-submit.
MMA fighter doesn't automatically make someone a Jujitsu master... There are stand up guys in MMA too, and if you DON'T get your takedown and end up in a clinch with one of these guys, that's no fun either. It would depend on the individual fighters that are fighting, and it would come down to the very second someone screwed up. One wrong move could result in a dislocated arm by submission, or result in the decapitation by head kick =)
@GuamKomudo Let's just say a Thai fighter wouldn't be able to handle somebody like GSP, Hendo, Hughes, Rashad, Couture, etc. A pure striker may have a harder time getting the takedown, but if they don't get obliterated by strikes they'll get it. Pure striking doesn't really work against opponents with even a lacking ground game, which is why there are NO pure strikers in the top levels of MMA
That's not very fair, why do MMA guys always do that... No crap they would have a hard time beating the BEST of the MMA world... Lets put a normal level MMA fighter agenst the best fighter in Thailand... Or how about the little kids that love airsoft agenst the Russian Spetznaz. It's dumb to compare them on that level. I don't care what you say, anything can happen. I am in MMA, I love Jujitsu, but I've also been kicked and punched really hard, striking is not a dead art.
@GuamKomudo I know anything can happen, but I'm talking about what's likely to happen. Plus, my favourite MMA fighters happen to be strikers with a Muay Thai background, Shogun Rua being my favourite fighter of all time
Oh, Shogun is very good, I'm a Karate background guy, and Lyoto Machida is my favorite fighter after Bruce Lee lol Shogun did VERY well both times agenst Lyoto, he's pretty much the only person to ever really hit him. Lyoto's style has changed, he is more offensive and takes more risks now days, he should go back to his old style of defense. But very good display of Martial arts by Shogun in the last fight, he did very well, he has my respect.
@GuamKomudo Well Shogun is the only one to hit Lyoto in the UFC, but outside BJ gave Lyoto a very close fight. To be honest I think it should have gone to BJ but the fight was EXTREMELY close, I'm talking about BJ only landed 3 more strikes close.
I saw that, BJ was not close in my opinion. There's a difference between landing a strike, and hurting someone with a strike... Everyone that's fought Lyoto is a very good fighter, but I feel like the UFC and media are to blame for their loss. The media tells everyone that Karate and Kung fu all suck and are horrible and fake, but then someone came in that actually knew REAL Karate and not American sport Karate, and no one knew how to fight it. They didn't know it was real, so they lost.
red trunk at 5:30 hand are quick like lightning after the first knock down his opponent got up in a state of shock from which he never recovered. the fight was over then.
im a shorter guy who does MMA and spars in boxing and kickboxing often, whats the best thing to do if an opponent A. moves his head back (to avoid a punch) or B. always runs away from my kicks?
@aaboi, this is the way all living things have evolved to be a better escape or better hunter. Naturally your opponent will try to be hit as little as possible and you'll try to hurt to win. Being short gives you reach disadvantages but i' d recommend you work on your speed and alternative combinations when he avoids punches (ie throw a punch and a couple of kick in low and middle or head section to catch him) I suggest u watch Fedor Emelianenko for inspiration.
A) u can follow up with a teep ( front kick to the lower section ), cause when his head is back, its quite difficult to get his legs or block a low kick .
B) dun pursue or chase him, because that may be a deliberate attempt by him to counter attack, just throw a few punches before u kick to direct his guard away from your kicks the next time
He'll only be able to get away from your kicks if you throw them and you're not in range. Try setting up combos with your hands then finish up with a kick
someone knows if is possible to see these fights on streaming? I mean modern ones like 2009-2010 not the famous historically like "sakmongkol vs jongsanan" and that stuff...
I dont get why my comment got flammed. it shows how ignorant some people here are.
dont get me wrong, its an amazing sport but hear me out:
People in thailand are confused to see farang (people like us) become so fixated on muay thai. Its a brutal lifestyle. Many young kids do it to earn money so that their families can scratch buy. No 10 yearold wants to get hit in the face by elbows or kneed in the sternum.
This is not always the case but it is very common.
I fight in thailand. Most of the kids cry before or after their fights. They dont want to fight. like you said. but what choice do they have? but they will never feel as good and as loved as getting in that ring and fighting. its addictive man!
@1outlawz I agree with u... thailand is a poor place... a lot of paople fights only to survive... I've stayed in bangkok some years ago... a kid loses his fight, after that his father kicked him... I'll never forget that... in 2010 I can't admit some accadiments...
@Tnig01, you also gotta understand that muay thai is the national sport of thailand. Muay thai is the source of national pride in thailand. Its part of their culture so most kids want to fight at young ages. Its family pride, its tradition, and its honour. If you've ever been to thailand, you'll know how big muay thai is there.
Kids in Mexico, US, France, Britian, etc. Kids from there and here do it for the money too. Many boxer that are in the top now didnt have nothing when they were young. It makes them strive to be the top fighter out there and make some money to support himself and family. They may do it cause they love the sport but also because its all they have and all they know how to do. Dont just say that its only happening in Thailand cause it happens everywhere!!
@tonymontana19892012 You also probably had a home, parents that earned money, food, and clothes. It's different when you don't have shit and you have no other choice but to fight. The purse is probably only a couple cents as well. Assuming you reach the top and you're the best, you still don't really make shit unless you get out of Thailand.
@Tnig01. There are kids that are fighting even younger than 14 in Thailand but you are wrong about these guys here. The big stadiums don't have kids that young fighting there. It takes a while to get to a high level to fight at Lumpini or Rajdamnern or Omnoi and guys under 14 just don't get there. Yeah some of these guys only do it for money but that's the case even for boxers in the US, Mexico etc. And believe me, the ones that make it to the top like fighting.
@BigBuddha3 Amen. Hardcore Muay Thai straight from the source. Notice, they never throw anything too fancy. Everything they do is to kill the body so the head falls, then they go upstairs. Those knees @ around 1:10 to the body are freakin BRUTAL! Both dudes just kneeing each other constantly back and forth? Dude. That's called being in REAL fight shape right there!
nah, it would have been dirty if the dude went all the way down and he hit him, the point in this is to drop them to the floor if you want a solid ko. his fault for trying to stay up with no defenses
good highlight. Cant agree with 101010rae though, and I come from a completely unbiased view since I practice muay thai and not mma. mma is just logically more potent than muay thai as it incorporates submissions and ground technique, as well as the striking of muay thai.
but lets say that this is only tue for people willing to learn how to fight...not people seeking entertainment...muay thai is more entertaining for some
the beauty and power of muay thai is second to none if only N America could see through the posers of UFC and their brainwash American TV tactics they would see true beauty of technique and complete devestation from the most distinguished art of fighting.
i agree with you one hundred percent i live in north america and all they can talk about is UFC id love to see a UFC fighter get in the ring with a muay thai fighter
in ufc you see fighters which they are no longer athletes with respect and ideals, they are just animals which have put into a cage.
in muay thai you see athletes which are respectfull to their teachers and ideals and when they step into the ring you see them respect their opponents and sport
Lol they better do better than america. Americans don't work as hard as the people in Thailand.People in Thailand fight for their everyday lives train 6-8 hours a day or more. They are the true warriors!
@101010rae I love martial arts and don't see what your saying. UFC is a completely different sport. Muay Thai is the sport of fighting with the 8 points of yout body, UFC is the sport of fighting, period. Muay Thai has far more culture and background but don't go calling UFC fighters posers........show some respect, you couldn't do it.
Muay Thai VS Muay Thai is always gonna be different than MMA. MuayThai is used in MMA, but it is modified, you cannot ONLY be a Muay Thai fighter and join MMA and win, you will lose, you have to know alittle of everything to win. It's one on one with rules, grapplers will always win that kind of fight, you have to know grappling to keep a grappler off you so you can actually use your MT skills. And many MT skills will get you taken down, so they don't use lots of thoughs ones.
These guys would kick my ass...

The purse is probably only a couple cents as well. Assuming you reach the top and you're the best, you still don't really make shit unless you get out of Thailand.

this kids cant be older than 14..
I think this is an amazing sport but this is almost unethical
Tnig01 2 years ago
just train and fight, who cares about age, just get to a fighting gym as soon as possible or studio or whatever, lol
shadowcar88 2 years ago
It depends on where you come from. For these people, muay thai is in their blood. Its not just a sport, its their heritage.
Shinji91 2 years ago

Real Muay Thai from THAILAND!
NOT K-1 or other Bullsht....
BigBuddha3 2 years ago 78
@BigBuddha3 Amen. Hardcore Muay Thai straight from the source. Notice, they never throw anything too fancy. Everything they do is to kill the body so the head falls, then they go upstairs. Those knees @ around 1:10 to the body are freakin BRUTAL! Both dudes just kneeing each other constantly back and forth? Dude. That's called being in REAL fight shape right there!
GuardianAngel5150 1 year ago
@BigBuddha3 K1 isn't Muay Thai nor does it pretend to be and how is K1 'bullshit'?
Please learn what you are talking about before posting.

XxkinkyfrogxX 3 years ago
nah, it would have been dirty if the dude went all the way down and he hit him, the point in this is to drop them to the floor if you want a solid ko. his fault for trying to stay up with no defenses

good highlight. Cant agree with 101010rae though, and I come from a completely unbiased view since I practice muay thai and not mma. mma is just logically more potent than muay thai as it incorporates submissions and ground technique, as well as the striking of muay thai.
skaplayer89 3 years ago
agree....though i dont do mma
but lets say that this is only tue for people willing to learn how to fight...not people seeking entertainment...muay thai is more entertaining for some

the beauty and power of muay thai is second to none if only N America could see through the posers of UFC and their brainwash American TV tactics they would see true beauty of technique and complete devestation from the most distinguished art of fighting.
LONG LIVE MUAY THAI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
101010rae 3 years ago 15
i agree with you one hundred percent i live in north america and all they can talk about is UFC id love to see a UFC fighter get in the ring with a muay thai fighter
tainueng88 3 years ago 7
@tainueng88 you cant compare ufc with muay thai
in ufc you see fighters which they are no longer athletes with respect and ideals, they are just animals which have put into a cage.
in muay thai you see athletes which are respectfull to their teachers and ideals and when they step into the ring you see them respect their opponents and sport
tzanatos89 1 year ago 2
@tzanatos89 Not all fighters are as you say... look at GSP.. he's the best and one of the most honorable...
PokerVertigo 1 year ago
@PokerVertigo specially for gsp i agree but look his interviews before its fight
i know dana white put them say stuff like that but thats why i dont like ufc
tzanatos89 1 year ago
Lol they better do better than america. Americans don't work as hard as the people in Thailand.People in Thailand fight for their everyday lives train 6-8 hours a day or more. They are the true warriors!

okay dude. race has nothing to do with it. just because you're american doesn't mean you can't be a great thai boxer if you want to be.
funkyhomosapian 2 years ago 2
@101010rae I love martial arts and don't see what your saying. UFC is a completely different sport. Muay Thai is the sport of fighting with the 8 points of yout body, UFC is the sport of fighting, period. Muay Thai has far more culture and background but don't go calling UFC fighters posers........show some respect, you couldn't do it.
redlandscapes 1 year ago
Muay Thai VS Muay Thai is always gonna be different than MMA. MuayThai is used in MMA, but it is modified, you cannot ONLY be a Muay Thai fighter and join MMA and win, you will lose, you have to know alittle of everything to win. It's one on one with rules, grapplers will always win that kind of fight, you have to know grappling to keep a grappler off you so you can actually use your MT skills. And many MT skills will get you taken down, so they don't use lots of thoughs ones.
