  • my hands are tied:

Keep us (me) updated with your findings.

It's thanks to you (and all those of you) that our Songs are still played. Thanks to someone like you (and those who should join you) our roots will not dry out and OUR CULTURE will endure.

  • YOU are sharing our history and heritage through the songs you find.

    Please; PLEASE keep doing it!

We, our people, have been enduring our culture in THIS continent for centuries. We have NOT forgotten neither our origin nor our history. Mass-music-industry wants to wipe our OWN songs. Keep helping us - PLEASE - by uploading.

  • Can it get more beautiful than this?

  • Alaykum wa `As-Salaam :)

  • Salaam Aleikoum

  • Wahacanka means Shield in Lakota.

  • "Wahancanka" is the name of the family who recorded this. "Wakan Tanka" means the Great Spirit. It is confusing, but the name of the singer & family is on the cover notes of the CD.

  • @sunmoonstarlex I offer my sincere apologies for the mistakes I made ... unwanted.

  • itis good but are thery blackfoot and understandwhatit isallaboutbackhomeleonora

  • Amici,

Che BRAVO! io no parlo Italiano ma questo video e vero buonno.

Anyway, I thank you, a lot, for posting this video. Please let me know where you got the info from. I'm trying to gather up as many songs and details as I can of all the native Americans: Wixarika, Seminole, Yaqui, Inuit, Inca, Purépecha, Maya, Zoque, Navajo, Quechua, etc) in order to post them here in ytb.

  • @tinitoysinatra Mine is a continuous search in the web world. Unfortunately I have received much criticism and complaints from people who do not understand or do not receive my interest in Native Americans. For this reason I avoid to publish videos with other songs. At least for now. Have a good day. :)

  • Simply......awe inspiring. I know that we are all related in the end, but I am always drawn to this even as a child. I am proud of my Roma Gypsy blood, we are still try to hold on to our language and ways of life :). I bless you all thrice around.

Grow strong, stand straight and proud.....and never deny who you are and your blood ties.

  • Spread our creators love and healing will happen

  • in my tribe they call it diyin but i know that diyin (creator/great spirit) has many names in mankind, but there is only one great spirit, but the tribes has many holy people. peace to ll people and peace to medicine wheel and tank you great spirit.

  • Wankan Tanka. My mistake, i was mad because he disrespects Great Spirit by misspelling his name.

  • @WTCnativenation I offer my sincere apologies for the mistakes I made ... unwanted.

  • Its Wanka Tanka. Im Dakota and Lakota. Its Wanka Tanka NOT Wahancanka

  • The world became one. A song was sung to the west, and by strange winds and lights, the song spread throughout the world. The song was heard by people of the 4 tribes, the people of the 4 tribes started to remember. They started to hear mother earth's heartbeat again. They had stopped listening. Grandmother, we hear you, we hear you. Grandmother we have missed you. I am of the Nothern people and Inuit. This song is calling to all. I understand your concern. Tribes are coming together again

  • @JAMcGrew oh come on.. pleease obviously a troll... you think the real native man would speak with such hate? not sure what happened to you but whatever is causing you to hate like that, well it must have been bad... sorry but guess what white eye slaves whites eyes too you know

  • @icreate78 ; I am not sure what is going on here. Though I have a pretty good idea. Thanks for responding, or I would have never known about it. The proplem will be taken care of.

  • True Native American culture has not been taught to us. The more I learn, the more I love. My life is changing from what i am learning. The Bible, in Romans 12 says not to be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind.

  • There is a lot of FEAR talking in this forum ... If it's here on the tube then those who find it, find it. I think you guys need to chill out lol....like ur ancestors

  • where can i find the lyrics for this song?

  • Thank you for sharing. I saw the comment about sharing sacred songs. I think that the people who arrive here are searching and would treat them with respect.

  • Not a healing song. Sundance song. I understand wanting to share, but I'm still bothered by this being on this medium. Pretty sacred stuff for us.

  • Any one knows words...? Please!

  • I'm a white man, born in the suburbs of America in 1968. My family and the television, taught me many things as did books and the indoctrination of Catholicism. But now I fear the church and it's ceremony of cannibalism. I lost my connection to the great spirit. The inipi is vital to my life now and it's songs.. this song.. was taught to me and hearing it fills my heart with joy. Selfishly I am grateful that its here. Forgiveme. It is magical and I will honor that the best way I can.

  • @schnicklefritzen i am native american and you are my brother, no matter the power of the indoctrination and genocides, we the people know we are relations to all living things, peace my brother.

  • Should the earth hide its medicines from the world or those who need it? It doesn't, everything is there to find. If the world is sick shall we hold back medicines making more sickness? I believe it is up to the creator of the healing to make the decision to share or not but knowing it can heal others can bring great guilt, dis-ease/disharmony keeping it to oneself. When humanity is poisioned/sick it cannot feel the pain it has caused upon another & allows further harm/sickness to continue.

  • all things are sacred only you make the difference.sacred medicine is good when ever or where ever i can hear it.aho-

  • Thank you for this healing. I grew up in a beautiful azalea forest in Atlanta, Georgia. It was sacred to me. It must have been sacred to anyone who might have lived there before. By the time I was grown, it had all been destroyed to build suburbs. Not one wild azalea survives there. I remember when I was 4 wanting to grow antlers as in this video. I remember before I could talk.Everything is sacred. Revere everything.

  • as you know, your comments are heard and respected from wherever they come. Personally,I'm glad that I can learn these songs and youtube gives that to me.The singers could use a little tuning but I am grateful. Everyone has thier opinion and view. I am concerned witrh people who make money from this and our other traditions. That really burns my breechcloth!!!!! All i can say is that you all know that thoase who do these things with anything but love and respect in thier heart will suffer the co

  • Sage, Cedar, Sweetgrass, and Tobacco, living in the dakotas these are things that are very easy to get. If you are to come across any say a prayer with the best intentions and give thanks if you are to pick some. Prayer has been known to change the molecules of water, mixed with any of the above i'm sure it would be stronger. The human body is more than 60% water, blood 92%, pray everyday, everything has a spirit, look for signals if you pray. to all my relations take care and god bless.

  • These songs belong in the sundance and not on youtube. These are sacred songs. There are songs that are never to be recorded. They call ancestors amongst other things. These are not songs you can sing going down the bread aisle at your local grocery store. If your heart really needs healing seek help, seek medicine, ask some of the posters which i am sure have contacts to get help. Above all pray, for that healing, for your food, for your family, for everything we are all related - mitakuye owasin

  • smoke the tobacco and your hate will go away

  • Why is everyone flipping out over one video? I'm as Native as all these ranters, and I feel no such anger or 'disrespect' coming from this video at all.

  • I am alquin indian and am proud of all Indial tradition. I have sweat many times and enjoyed sharing with all people the traditions of our past. Like all things change must happen. Interweaving our traditions amongst all people is proof of charity, compassion and forgiveness. Open your mind so your heart can follow.

  • we are all related and sing songs for healing in our own ways. may we all sing to heal Mother Earth

  • If done in a good way. Heca tu yelo Kolas! Times are changing and we need to teach our children these songs and promoting our ways in a good way brings a good feeling from within. I have blood line of Chief Sitting Bull. My people the Hunkpapa that are from Little Eagle, SD stand strong in our culture and ways and the importance to pass down these ways to the next generation is of the most importance. • We had to adpt to the modern world. If our Traditions are to survie they must be published. If we hide them, we then fix them in place and they will ceartanly die.

  • why get al upset with this song,am also a sun dancer and been singing at sun dance for more than 30 years, was lucky to be singing with them old timers and this song isnt a sundance power song ,just a modern song made for sun dance,no power there

  • If we continue to hide away the traditions, no matter how offensive they may be to some, they will die out like a flame.and be forgotten. Not everyone can simply "go there". This along with other videos educate the people who are ignorant to the ways of the ones that came before us all.

  • As in Ireland, where I live, those who have known Spirit, need to bring their traditional wisdom teaching into the sunlight. This should be their choice and their gift. It is for them to answer to Spirit if they do not. Sacred knowledge, wisdom or healing, should be shared within the sacred space opened by the giver . A gift can't or shouldn't be taken, if the opportunity for the grace of its giving to be manifested is not to be lost. This is just as important as the gift itself. Ho.

  • I have to agree with others that youtube is not the place for this. As one now deceased Lakota spiritual leader used to say, "If you want to learn the songs and traditions, go there!" Ho hecetu.

  • stupiscimisempre you asshole take this song down

  • You need to take this down. My people the Lakota Oyate still suffer today because of the wasicu.

  • Aho Hoka Hey

  • If these songs were meant for evryone..den evryone would know them. They were givin to our people for a reason. These songs should be held to the upmost respect just as prayers are.

  • I would like to thank you for sharing this..

I have heard this twice? performed,an must say,It is Powerful.

Now,Do I know its power,meanings,its.. reason for being kept private? NO I don't

But I will say,Sitting there I saw its Power, along with everyone else there.I felt its meanings. I was indeed moved.

  • @stupiscimisempre if you would have any kind of respect for my people or our traditions you wouldn't have this video up!!you have NO IDEA what my family and other native people went through back in the days to keep songs like this alive and for you just to put this up is beyond disrespectful! If you have have great respect for my ancestors like you said you do,then you would take this video off! this is what our ancestors feared what would happen!people abusing our traditions!

  • @lozan23 I respect your thinking, but I don't think your ancestors would treat these songs as they were things to hide ... things private. I don't intend to abuse of your traditions, I would just make them homage. This is not something despicable, you must understand. I hope you enjoy life in peace and serenity.

  • @stupiscimisempre You are one of many who begin the bastardizing of the true ways and meaning of tradition. You are the same as the YO NEGG butterfly boy that has posted himself drumming and sings Win de ya ho a song only for the women. Youtube is powerful and you and others like you use it to show you ignorance and disrespect of what is sacred. Take it off if your deep respect is greater that than your deep desire to be perceived as something you are not.

  • @stupiscimisempre They are not songs to be hidden, but to be cherished as a child is to be cherished. The integrity and truth and real meaning of these songs is far beyond anything over 99.9% of the youtube community could really understand, myself included. Your intention is good, but I fear you are not really knowledgeable when it comes to Lakota culture. Wisdom and teachings are shared with those who are ready. I am not ready. Most are not ready. Youtube is not ready.

    Peace, and thank you.

  • @lozan23

I am a white boy, born in Oregon. I play songs like these for my wife to heal. She has been chronically ill for a long time but is getting better. I am thankful to the God who made us all for healing music from all people.

    Ken

  • @lozan23 Somewhere in your teachings, if you still hold them, there is spoken of when your knowledge MUST be shared with the white man. They are ready now, or will be ready soon. Your ancestors did suffer and your way was ALMOST lost. Wadoh to your ancestors for keeping this alive for me to find in this lifetime. The earth is hurting, your very own people are walking shells of a people. Wake up, rise up in your spirit and teach the people here on Turtle Island how to be with the earth.

  • @stupiscimisempre: No... You're wrong! And by all the animosity and anger your showing towards "lozan23", I wouldn't say your much of a Dancer... I bet... I bet.. You're not even Native! Probably just another example of "Dances With Wolves syndrome" who had no life and now wants to berate because they do have one! Your screen name says it all... What are "marine reject"....lol Grow up!!

  • this so true , no one has Respect for nothing now a days ... it's show in his comments your not native so don't think @lozan23

  • @lozan23 shut the fuck up u moron, what are u trying to hide .. ur point of view is so superficial, do u have a brain or water in ur head ?

  • @lozan23 Iam white, and not a Native, i was born in christian ways. But i show my interest at all other Nations,Believes and Races, no matter if Black, Yellow,Red, or whatever, we are one World, and we have done so much to this world. The most, i would say 95% is Bullshit. When we look at our Planet, what is still really good. I dont understand, why youre so upset when other People show interest in your ways. I, for myself, i have each day pain. My Bones arent right, so i LOVE to listen !

  • i come from a long line of sundancers and to have this song on youtube is beyond disrespecful!this song is a big part of the sundance and MY people faught hard to keep our traditions alive!By you putting this on youtube, your saying FUCK YOU to my ancestors and all their struggles! to Farfromhere001 MY PEOPLES TRADITIONS ARE VERY MUCH ALIVE!its cause we don't open them up to other races cause they will do some stupid shit like post it on youtube!

  • @lozan23 I have deep respect for your people and your traditions. You have to learn that not everybody in this world are stupide.YOUTUBE is a powerful global information.

  • @stupiscimisempre Traditions should be shared not hidden.. So they will be known and therefore remembered... For everybody that wants to open their eyes and heart to the original culture of North America.. Thank you for sharing...

  • @lozan23 A healing song just for Indians eh?

Maybe we should stop allowing you access to the white man's medicine.

  • @lozan23

why is it 'stupid shit' to post this on youtube? why is it 'stupid shit' to share this beautiful culture with others? why is it 'stupid shit' to help keeping traditions alive using the internet?

almost all people who comment on this video respect the culture and traditions of your ancestors

you keep talking about keeping the traditions alive, but that's exactly what stupidscimisempre does

now you tell me what's the problem! people listen to this with respect! you should to!

  • @lozan23 TROOLL

  • This must be shared less it die and be lost forever! we need this knowledge and teachings more now than ever! Hiding them from us would be offensive to me!!!

  • IM CRYING TO HEAR A SONG FROM A LONG TIME AGO I CAN HARDLY SEE FOR THE TEARS OF JOY THAT POUR FROM MY SOUL.

  • THIS IS A SUNDANCE SONG!!!! WAT THE HELL IS IT ON YOUTUBE 4??? WAT KINDA INDIANS ARE U??? THATS MESSED UP U HAVE NO RESPECT!!!!!!!!!

  • @Britneyjoww I apologize for the mistakes that I write these words, I'm not a man of the English language. I created this video by inserting a song I love very much. Many more would I have to share, but unfortunately I saw that not everyone understands the meaning of what I wanted to do. I wanted to give people the opportunity to enjoy the many benefits that can make this song, I wanted to exalt The knowledge of the people of the Native Americans do not mock them.

  • Thanks to those who have understood me, and I apologize to those who have offended. Peace all.

  • @Britneyjoww It is what happens when we give our sacred songs and ceremonies away to non-Indians, and even some of our own people who either don't understand enough or just don't give a damn.

  • These songs on this site I accept in the spirit of the giveaway. We use them when we practice and they help us. We, all of us and all things are related and these songs are meant for the people to use in sacred ceremony and the person that posts these things is doing a good thing. They are handed down to us and just because they are posted hear does not make a a desecration of our ways. They are here to help us. Stop judging and live the Red Road. Aho

  • gratzi, palamyia yelo

  • fucking exploiting our sacred ways.....

  • @tradishsunfish What I think this channel is trying to do is share culture so those of us ignorant ones with white skin can be educated and come to a better understanding of those who's race that some of our ancestors nearly annihilated. Some of us want to make amends for things we did not do ourselves but by virtue of having white skin are held in contempt for what other pale faced ones continue to do to exploit. Peace and Love to you Brother Man.....

  • , MITAKUYE OYASIN , thank you!

  • Can receive the healing via this song.!

  • I enjoy this channel. Would love to know more of the music and its culture without being offensive . Inquiring

  • I posted a tutorial version of this song on my site for anyone trying to learn it.

  • Your site is?

  • Click the blue "Inipisongs" userid. Youtube won't allow direct links, unless one posts a video response.

  • Lyrics and translation:

    Ate Wakantanka heya uweyo (twice)

    Father Wakantanka says come

    Ate Wakantanka onsimala yo

    Father Wakantanka, pity me

    Oyate, oyate zanni cinpelo

The people, the people want good health

    Heya hoyewayelo

Saying that, I send a voice.

  • Thank you very much for share this!

In Spanish, it could be like this:

    - El Padre Wakantanka dice, ven.

    - Padre Wakantanka, compadécete de mí.

    - La gente (el pueblo) quiere buena salud.

    - Dicho esto, envío una voz (súplica).

    Great video! 5 stars!

  • "Wahancanka" translates as "shield" in the Lakota language, and is the singer's name. His full name is Joseph Shields, Jr. and his song CDs are widely available commercially, as are others from a wide variety of singers.

  • this song was first a pow wow song, the original word for were ate wakan tunka osimala yelo wiyaka waste ste wakici cipelo wakicipi yelo

although all sundance songs are healing this would not be considered a healing song, there is a move these days that some sundnace songs are being made or modified from pow wow songs,

  • Careful! These Wiwangwachipi olowan (sundance songs) are not with out their own way of defending themselves! It is good that you love them; but, be careful how you use them!

  • I pray that this video will heal SHARGEUN

  • please pray for SHARGEUN

  • This is a song I heard and sang at a Sun Dance. I wanted to hear it again and maybe practice the words and remember the song. Thanks for posting!

  • I wonder if there if the frustration with this posting should be at the elder who recorded it in the first place, and then marketed it. Yeah, I don't think ceremonial media of any kind should be on you tube, however perhaps this person did not know what it was used for and found it so BEAUTIFUL that he/she wanted to share it with all the human beings.

  • Tlexiktli2003

I agree. I have enjoyed many of your videos very much. They are BEAUTIFUL too.

  • yes this is a lakota sun dance song, very holy--but also recorded on various tapes etc--often made by elders so young people can learn the songs--then tape wanders out into the big world. Same for the NAC songs you find here--many are very old or someone's personal or family songs. So since it is now 'public' for good or bad please respect it, learn about where it comes from, what it means, etc. For instance, it's not wahancanka--Ate Wakan Tanka unsimalayo: Father (God) have pity on us all

  • Comment removed

  • This song is a sun dance song of my people, sacred, but still a good song even if it is shared with the public or not! Pilamaya yelo (thank you)

  • I come from the East-band Cherokee Nation, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this a sacred Lakota Ceremony song?

  • Oglala Lakota here.

    And yes, it is.

  • this is our(oyate) cerimony songs, this ain't no intertribal. but you need to know where it'z used and what it meanz or otherwise it's '"just a song" and has no meaning. First thing is it'z not a healing song and you don't know where it's used. Do sum research b-4 you write and advertise our Lakota, Dakota and Nakota songz.

  • HAU, MITAKUYE OYASIN

  • Complimneti. 5 stars * * * * *

  • These songs are very sacred to the Dakota and Lakota people and should not be made public like this!

  • I understand and respect what the traditionalists say about "sacred songs", however I feel I must share my views. these are new times and things change, we must change too. there are many urban Indians who do not have access to and elder or a medicine person, we do not get invited to ceremonies and we are kept out of the communities because of our "urbaness". I may never have gotten to hear these words that heal my heart, so I say thank u for posting this. All my relations, we are one nation.

  • No. If someone wants to learn it, then they have to learn it the old way.

  • @jimmyjoeh2o these sacred songs should not be out like this. These songs call ancestors and should not be messed with. Take your buns outta the city and go do it with some tradition in mind. You guys are gonna be messing around with spirits and get yourself in trouble. Even with the best intentions, you should either be taught directly by the spirits or by someone who knows what they're doing. These songs belong where they were made for...the sundance.

  • Very nice. *****

    By Ery.

  • Grazie, carissima...è un piacere rileggerti :)

  • che particolare

  • Mah!

  • I dont think sacred songs should be passed on like this...i know this song, danced to it several times at sundances where i pierced...sing it in sweats....good song,. but its losing its power the more ppl dont use it the right way...these songs were givien by Tunkasila, and he gave them for ceremonies....

  • Thank you for your comment, I apologise for my worst English.I admire much the people of the native Americans.I want to study history and customs.I really like this song,I apologise if I have used In the wrong way.I wish you a good life.

  • thanks for posting this comment.

we don't share these songs in "this way"

we'll share them in a good way but not like this.

remember. these ways were once illegal and to this day we must protect them..many gave their lives for them
