Thats what I call a review ! To date it seems the GF1 has held its value well.The Epl1 has some great deals. Its build quality and size I love. I may go for the Epl1 for value for money. now even with all the newer systems out there. The point is get the kit lens with it? or just get a pancake lens eg. panny 20 f1.7? Love your channel makes me want to get out and shoot !

Are micro four third cameras better than pro digicams like canon 12?

@kurai6 If by that you mean enthusiast level digital cameras such as the G12? I'd say yes because micro four thirds sensors are bigger, thus, less noise and better quality in low light conditions. Also the auto focus on the G3, GF3, and E-P3, are blinding fast. So fast in fact that I was surprised it was even happening when I saw the G3 in a shop the other day.

I'm thinking of a gf1. Here's the two lens combinations i'm thinking of: 1. 20mm 1.7 + 14-45mm zoom OR 2. 20mm 1.7 + 14mm 2.5 . Which one would you guys choose?

I don't really zoom in to telephoto much in my point and shoot (want to get away from the auto world to manual), but i haven't really had much experience with DSLR/micro 4/3. so dunno if 20mm (i guess that's 40mm equivalent) max will be enough. anyone know of any other small/"pancake" fixed focal length lens for micro 4/3 beyond 20mm?

i dont see the point of the samsung. the EVIL cameras are supposed to mimic the classic rangefinders and compacts to be unobtrusive in street shooting. the samsung looks like a clunky sDLR.

E-PL1, Canon G12 is just a compact with a small sensor and no lens to switch. Canon and Nikon are behind panasonic, olympus, samsung and even sony. Photography took another direction that they lost a few years back.

But Panasonic & Olympus made the move to invest more in micro four thirds because they could NOT compete w/Canon or Nikon in the DSLR market.

Yes, that might be true, but something makes me thing that Nikon or Canon can not compete with micro 4/3 right now and they will never be at a competent level. I guess they lost the edge, these days, selling the same old stuff that soon fewer will want.

After I played with a micro 4/3 I understand that this system is quite good, actually, better suited for traveling and discrete photography than any dslr.

@dilla89 It depends on what you want I guess. Based on this review and a couple of others I'd say the EP1 is mainly artsy, and meant for landscapes and nature more than pictures of people. The other two seem to be more like true cameras. Less artsy, slightly less colorful, but better for pictures of people. I'm no expert, but I'm still going for the EPL1

Thanks for a great comparison. I'm thinking of getting into the M4/3 market and debating between the E-P1, E-PL1, and the GF1. I want something relatively versatile and the faster autofocus of the GF1 is certainly appealing.

Awesome 3-way review + Hong Kong tour!

I must argue that HK at night hardly qualifies as a real low light test. I think the buildings illuminating the city at night put out more lumens per square inch than you could get during the overcast daylight portion of the test...(joking). That smog rolling in from mainland China was looking pretty thick.

So, your suggestion is to buy all 3 cameras?

From my experience, NX10 was pleasure to use. Ergonomics fit very well on my hands, felt more like a SLR than a compact p/s. Rear AMOLED LCD screen was clear and the menus were one of the easiest to operate. It also looked pretty good with zoom lense and hood on it. I'd rather have this for daily carry-around than other ones that look more like a fashion accessory.
