For example. We eliminate drawing of countries on the world map (taught at school). Categorize by terrain only. One world, no divide. Then break it down by language. Then by culture, religion, clothing style. Then by physical characteristic / biology. To the individual.
you should have mentioned that NASA chose to depict the world map with the US as the north. We all know there is no north or south in outer space, and many times the spaceships take pictures of the earth with the maps inverted. South Africa and Argentina could as easily be the north of the world. Google "blue marble" if you think I'm bullshitting you.
@monkeytwineball You can download a tool from the website (see video summary) to create your own custom maps by locating the pole (and then you can use these as a screensaver).
A general screensaver is also included, which creates random maps on your screen.
There is distortion on these maps (meaning that you can draw equal lines which represent varying distances in the real world), but the distortion is no more than the distortion on the "normal" world map. Only the location of the distortions is moved.

I really like that image with the indian ocean as the pole!
Could you post an high quality image of it somewhere so I can use it as a screen saver?

@seanwd93 I wish you were right. Unfortunately, most people fail to realize how inaccurately our maps represent our world.

The earth is not a sphere... It is kinda stretched in the center. Just a point of semantics. :P
Fireheart27 1 year ago
@Fireheart27 You are totally right! Calling the Earth a sphere is actually just a convenient approximation of its real shape.
