  • Very hollands accent

  • I like it!

  • @Paszarin You missed the point.

  • Jouw accent is zwaar!

  • If only we could just eliminate borders as easily...

  • For example. We eliminate drawing of countries on the world map (taught at school). Categorize by terrain only. One world, no divide. Then break it down by language. Then by culture, religion, clothing style. Then by physical characteristic / biology. To the individual.

  • Antarctica is such a waste of land

  • you should have mentioned that NASA chose to depict the world map with the US as the north. We all know there is no north or south in outer space, and many times the spaceships take pictures of the earth with the maps inverted. South Africa and Argentina could as easily be the north of the world. Google "blue marble" if you think I'm bullshitting you.

  • well its all relative north south left right up down El oh El

  • You, sir, are my new hero.

  • What if Poland was the north pole ? You'd have to call it the Pole, pole.

  • I really like that image with the indian ocean as the pole!

Could you post an high quality image of it somewhere so I can use it as a screen saver?

  • @monkeytwineball You can download a tool from the website (see video summary) to create your own custom maps by locating the pole (and then you can use these as a screensaver).

A general screensaver is also included, which creates random maps on your screen.

  • @seanwd93 I wish you were right. Unfortunately, most people fail to realize how inaccurately our maps represent our world.

  • That was.. SO COOL!

  • Steven hawking!

  • Hah, that was a great video. :D

  • The earth is not a sphere... It is kinda stretched in the center. Just a point of semantics. :P

  • @Fireheart27 You are totally right! Calling the Earth a sphere is actually just a convenient approximation of its real shape.

  • AWESOME VIDEO!!! A+

    Maps are kool!

    Saludos from MACHU PICCHU Peru!

  • is that dutch?

  • that's cool. thanks for sharing

  • In wich software could you make this cartographic projections?

  • Dutch accident ownage... ga zo door zwartepolo

  • yeah, but he showed examples.

  • Great Vid.

Iedere nederlander praat zo maf xD

    Maarja toch 'a good Vid'

  • holy shit...

  • knew this since primary school. its basic knowledge.

  • wouldnt that mess up the distance as we studied

  • There is distortion on these maps (meaning that you can draw equal lines which represent varying distances in the real world), but the distortion is no more than the distortion on the "normal" world map. Only the location of the distortions is moved.

  • This is completely awesome, and that's all I can say.

  • xD lol

  • Very interesting concept. Thanks for the video.

  • Great video on the importance of map projections and datums.

  • Ik wist het onmiddellijk, de meeste Nederlanders klinken zo maf als ze Engels praten. :P

  • this is soo good!!!

    :D

  • thats brilliant!

  • That was really good, i espesualy like the map with the indian ocian as teh top. I think we should use that one instead

  • True, you can see everything like that.
