In regard to Jones & Hopkins, Calzaghe reported a pretty laughable, "fear of flying" as one reason he wouldn't fight them. I remember thinking at the time how absurd that was, but it reached new levels of ridiculous when he went to the States to fight a well past-it Hopkins, & the corpse of Jones.

He has beaten Pavlik, Jones, gone up to cruiserweight and as far as I am concerned he beat Pascal, it is a testament to B-hop's greatness that he was knocked down THREE times yet battles back to get a draw on two cards and be given the decision on the other. Joe vs B-hop: Joe throws 80+ punches per round for 12 rounds campared to lazy B-hop so joe was always going to win on one card he landed more punches than any other fighter apart from Jones back when Jones was in his prime. and forced the whole fighter. so someone fighting on the backfoot and cheating was never going to win EVER. Joe gives judges every reason to score in his favour because of his fast combos whereas hopkins is a lazy awkward fighter

To all you idiots, Calzaghe had an injury plagued career which hampered his chances of getting big fights. However, he beat everyone who was put in front of him. His fight with Byron Mitchell should have been a unification fight, he destroyed Lacy and soundly beat Kessler who at the time were all top fighters. You say him Stay at Home Joe, yet before there fight Joe had fought outside Wales more times than Hopkins outside the U.S.

I followed Calzagne career from since I was stationed over in England. Just like Eubank, Calzagne held on to that WBOgus belt & thought he was a great champ. Eubank was never a real world champ while Calzagne to his credit did win some legitimate titles. An old B-Hop gave Calzagne hell & in some eyes was cheated out of the win. Yeah he did mop RJ but man RJ was done years before that fight. Calzagne never called them out during their prime. Once they got old, he wanted t0 fight them.
