  • It was so beautiful...but it made me cry. : (

She is so brave for writing it.

  • I'd seen DTWOF online and really dug that so naturally Fun Home was the next step...I was so blown away by it. it really is incredible.

  • i'm writing an essay right now about how this and toni morrison's 'beloved' show heroines as 'repositories of memory and history' but i wish instead of writing it i could just read fun home three more times. it's so good.

  • Just finished reading this, it's a really interesting story. The process to create it looks really intense, but the effort shows on the pages. Hergé was just as driven (though without photoshop), sometimes he'd completely redraw and paint an entire page of Tin-Tin if he didn't like how it turned out.

Just wait till you learn InDesign and can lay out pages in order and see them all at once. U already have a great sense of typography from calligraphy and layout. Enjoyed reading this, keep it up!

  • wow, that seems like a lot of work! thank you for your great book.

  • An amaaaazzzingly talented and intelligent artist, truly unprecedented in her medium.

  • I don't think the Alison's dad really commited suicide. The circumstances of death that she describes leave no margin for that... I can only assume that she had wished to introduce more drama. .-.

  • Thanks, I enjoy hearing about others creative process.

  • Loveeeeee her!

  • Ha! So simple, yet ingenious. Favorited.

This book is now on my "to get list"....

  • I just realized that I am listening as though I already know her... sometimes her expressions look like her drawn character so much!

  • I read this book when it came out but I just happened to run across this video. Anyway, it's an AWESOME book, I can't rave about it enough.

And don't even get me started on Alison, FINE, FINE, FINE! *drool*

  • Lot of work! But what a marvellous book. There is a scene I will always remember, partly because the same happened to me when I was very young. It's the scene when she's in a diner with her father and eyes a lesbian and gets a feeling of sameness, like a stranger she know or something to that effect.

  • I just read this for 21st Century Lit and it's amazing! I couldn't put it down. She's incredibly talented, with both illustrating and writing - very articulate. It's a gutsy memoir.

  • Love this! Thanks for posting. Alison's talent is really amazing...and MIND TV is awesome.

  • Thanks for sharing this insight in your work process! This is very helpful!!

  • i loved the book. funny thing is, why in terms of such deep artistical insight into her life she didn't even mention her jewish origin?

  • I think she's catholic. That's all over "fun home". At least her mom definitely was..Am I wrong?

  • thanks, that was really cool to see! there is nothing more beneficial than learning an artist's process...

  • this was really great. very interesting process. thank you for this.

  • she should have said 'im alison bechdel and that's how i drewed the book that's about to change your life' - gee, i love her.

  • @shesbusy drewed??? lol
