  • Wauw.., great clip, wonderfully made. Mixed with the best music there is...

    ("Jane; 4ever yours!!!")

  • Wow, I love this video. It's very well done, and I love this song. And I never thought about how it fits Will and Elizabeth before, but it really does. People who are getting all argumentative just need to chill. If you don't like it, don't watch it. I'm sure that bringing a Christian song and bringing it together with a secular movie is a way in which to expand Christ's influence.

  • PLEASE make more! loved it <3

  • Thanks for taking the time to do this...mixing the incredible song writing of Rich Mullins with scenes from this movie...WOW!

  • Nicely put together and I happen to enjoy pirate tales and Rich Mullins' music, and love God -- so this is a winner in my book. Thank you for your creativity and for posting. Blessings :)

  • @knightschemdry - Criticism has its place. But what's the objective? To build up or tear down? To honestly help someone to be or do better? Or to make oneself look better? As Christians, we are to do the former, even with great effort. Faultfinding is not necessary and doesn't serve any good purpose. Critics usually find themselves to then be the object of criticism.

Sometimes life is great; sometimes it's not, but it's always great to have life and have a chance to make it great.

  • And yes I know I will get skewerd again. But I love it as it proves your inablity to think for yourselves and actually are filled with hatred and contempt because after all you are better

  • You need to re-read Jesus’ own words and get out of your fucked up fantasy land. I suppose it is the fault of the millions of children world wide who stave to death or have to sell themselves into prostitution to put food on the table. Ever see the movie blood diamond? That stuff really happens. Stay in your cozy westernized fantasy world and believe God love everyone and causes no harm. Christians don’t even need drugs to escape to an unrealistic alternate reality.

  • You narcissistic, holier than thou scare the shit out of me. Only you are allowed to be critical? The number one proof of a fake belief is you inability to read and understand your own Bible. Then you change the meaning all around to suite your needs and say people send themselves to hell. WTF! God created it, so you believe, and he is willingly sending people there because they don’t bow and scrape to his ego!

  • @nililic

God does not SEND people to Hell, they choose it for themselves; yes God did create Hell, but as Dr. Hugh Ross says, it is another expression of his love. The people and angels who end up inhabiting Hell are in the one place that is right for them ... a place where God's influence and love can not / do not exist. God is giving the people who end up there what they have said or shown they want which is an eternity without him.

  • @nililic Jesus never exihibited an ego!! He was the most humble person, died for you and has given you an opportunity to be in eternity with Him. If you choose to reject it, it is because of your ego, not his. Our Lord doesn't make anyone accept salvation. Why would you reject the very person that died on the cross for all your sins and took your punishment so you would not have to bear that burden? The very God of the Universe became man and provided a way out of judgement.

  • @x001m69 LOL, Thank you for proving my point for me.

  • Oh - a year later i come across the vid and have a new thought! Rich LOVED movies, used to go see some over and over, so IMHO, he would have really dug this. That makes me smile!

  • sometimes I think it is best to disable comments altogether here.

  • I think the coordination between movie and song is good, there are moments when the words fit bits of clips shown....the song of course has more depth than the movie. Good old Rich. Thanks for posting this... God can use all all forms of media to add glory to the work of his saints, even that which was not intended to that purpose. He is after all more creative and greater than the Devil! it is the best use of such a movie!!

  • What movie is this?? Seems so nice movie...

  • This video doesn't fit THAT SONG... and is so much UNAPPROPRIATE ! It's all I will say. These caracters have NOTHING to do with the meaning of the words written by Rich... For me, it even is an insult to its very essence.

  • @katleiabloom, I'm sorry that I've offended you. I'm sad that you've spoken and judged first w/o so much as asking for my reasoning behind it. It's a pity. To offend was certainly not my intent, but then again, do you really care what my intent was? Shall we be that closed- and narrow-minded? I would hope not! Shall we pause and perhaps consider that these *clips* have NOTHING to do with the movie, but are merely being used as a "music video" (unrelated to the movie) since I can't film my own?

  • It is meant to tell a *story of its own* -- not necessarily as holding a connection to the actual movie.

  • This video is a gross misrepresentation of the artist's original purpose in writing this song. Rich Mullins was an amazing songwriter who God used in so many ways to inspire people to follow Jesus, not earthly lusts.

  • I Totally Agree with you.

  • @daveeturner, I state: I didn't intend to offend anyone. If you would give me a chance to explain myself, it would be most appreciated. Have you paused to consider that perhaps these clips are not being used as parts of the movie, but are being used as a "music video" (unrelated to the movie) since I cannot film something for my own? I cannot film my own, so perhaps I wished to create a visual representation (like MUSIC VIDEOS) for the song so I borrowed those clips for just such a purpose?

  • It is meant to tell a *story of its own* -- not necessarily as holding a connection to the actual movie.

  • I read where Rich Mullins wrote this after a break up with a girlfriend. Sort of like a Christian break up song.

  • I think that this is an awesome collage. Your craft is meticulious. I like the way that you matched up Orlando Blooms lips with the lyrics. I hope you make more. Rich Mullins once said in an interview that he was a movie fan and I would like to think that he would have got a kick out of this. I sure did.

I hope you have more.

  • @vaderkenobifan, thank you. As I have stated already, this was not necessarily meant as a connection to the movie, but as telling a *story of its own*. Music videos are interpretive, not necessarily holding a connection to a previously told story -- this was just that, a music video. Thanks again!

  • Wow!!! I never would have thought to put this song & movie together. It was a perfect mix. Thanks for sharing. It makes me want to go out & rent the movie again. You're definitely gifted.

  • wow- what an uplifting Clinique commercial

  • GOD OWNS IT ALL...who cares ...just enjoy the music...geeee. someone who is either jealous or just a hater has to come along and ruin something so precious just to get some attention..if you got a problem with this person using the movie dont look at it....

  • Why not just appreciate the beautiful music and the thoughtful effort here and let youtube inform the poster of this video if there is any infringement of any kind, in which case it will be addressed. Sheeeeesh. Why does somebody almost ALways have to criticize????? Let your hearts be converted. At any rate, GOOD JOB for the coordination of audio and vid. Thanks!

  • @sqqqsme - Exactly! =) Luke 6:41-42 often comes to mind when I encounter nitpicking like this: "Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye."

  • @sqqqsme, thanks. That was a good hunk of my aim, you know? And you are right, people get uptight and then don't even have the courtesy to ask *me* what my thoughts were about it before they make a judgment! It amazes me (not necessarily in a good way, either). Your words are appreciated!

  • @sqqqsme I find no problem with criticizing infact this video is a great symbol of contradiction. Nothing wrong with contradiction in my option. Contradiction has its place too.

  • Precious, dear

  • As for our dear friend Nillic, He's free to beleive whatever he wants I beileve that God died and saved my wretched soul from the pits of hell, but just know our words have eternal consequences when we share the gospel with someone and they except or refuse we have done our part now its Gods turn to work on the heart, it's when christains brashly defend all thet we know that we push people away with our words, let us as christians not speak verbal pepper spray to others in defense of christ

  • Great Job on the movie! I don't think that a Baller action movie fits with a classical hymn by the great Rich Mullins.

  • Hopefully, everyone can now go back to enjoying Rich with the pirate movie behind. I'd have gone with Captain Blood or Treasure Island. but the images aren't nearly as lush in color.

  • But, then, he's not coming back here, ever again. :) Hope he finds his way home. The worship of nothing yields nothing. Human egos can't stand human smallness, won't admit human fragility and won't do anything but scream invective at the ones who tell us otherwise. Nili can enjoy the Invention of Lying if he wishes. All the believers there are silly cows that match the atheist's image of Christians. THAT'S sad, when the only place an idea can win is in a casino with loaded dice.

  • Nili hardly threatens me, yet himself feels the need to return to a Christian site to attack and attack, never offering even a vague defense. Which of us then is clinging to an outmoded ideal like a life-raft and which one reasons? Read his post. No logic, reason in response. None can be found since what I've said is true. I would doubt his ever being saved or his statement that he was a minister since he failed to mention a denomination. I would tell him he's welcome in God's house.

  • This reality means that the only rational concept is that there are likely many things beyond our capacity to understand, things we can't measure, see with the naked eye. Meaning an atheist absolute that there is no God is ridiculous if that God leaves evidence like prophecy. Rationalism itself says humanism isn't sufficient. "We are awfully small and not as strong as we think we are." Stated more succinctly and artfully by Rich, using human failing to accentuate the frailty of man.

  • Apologies to the poster of this lovely song. The area should be about Rich and his stunning work and not about an atheist desperate to scream ath those who easily show his errors. Again: the humanist claims to love rational thought yet has not real response when the tools of rationalism, science and logic go against their "box." Every science shows there is so much out there beyond our ability or science to comprehend, that our tools, science and the human mind, are limited at best.

  • Ah, a REAL nihilist. If you think he exists and sends folks to hell, you are NOT a nihilist or atheist. Merely a lost child who got wounded and needs healing. You won't find it emptiness. Only more hate. Rich worked with Native Americans for years and what he would think of this mix is iffy, since the movie was pure paganism. but at least it's appropriated for a good cause. Rich would have loved you, man.

  • Actually no. The closest label is secular humanist agnostic or athiest depending on the day. I don't believe god sends people to hell because there is zero evidence for his existance. I assume you do beleive he does, but if not then I applaud you. I am former minister and missionary so ... and I know a lot about Rich for a close friend of mine was close to him an photographed him, and yes I do beleive he would love me. Interesting thing is I used to be where you are now. And am so free now!

  • Used top be where you are, too. Nietzsche, Sartre, Marx. Hope you were just a church claimed missionary, never took him as your Lord. Ways back if you didn't. Look for the rapt. and maybe you can see the truth when it hits. Why be a humanist and worship the creation instead of the creator? No, I don't think he sends folks to Hell. I think they choose it for themselves but you DID say he does it, so you got the response. Hope to see you there.

  • Not sure who has been feeding you lies, but humanists do not worship creation, don't worship anything. 1 of 1000's of reasons I left the faith was all the lies. This conversation is at an end. You don't know sarcasm when you see it, and obviously have no training in logic and rational thought. Can't beleive I am actually wasting time with somone so obtuse. Oh and yes I was silly enough to claim him as Lord, so what? All gods are nothing, all gods are equal. Figure that one out.

  • Bye, then, nil. I invented sarcasm. , irony. Again, been where you are. Atheist claim there's only the material world here while black holes drain all that material into another place beyond our touch. Quantum Physics says there' s WAY more beyond here. Humanism worships man. Hence the name. Greek origins. Very small gods. What were you, a Morman? The mission thing. A right wing Baptist? Only other ones I've seen on missions. Both get sick of false rules. Me, too. God over law.

  • Nili: you aren't wasting your time. You're longing to come back and find someone there who you didn't meet the first time. The God beyond the phony rules and dogma. You just have to look. I was four years in debate, taught biology and chem, long time SF fan and, yeah, love God. Won a few district and regional debate and extemp tourney's too. Insults don't pass as logic nor do CLAIMS of lies. That's internet blogger gibberish. Talk to me, not the ether.

  • You are way too funny! Your claims mean nothing, past glories obviously not absed on investigative truth. ruth you clim as insult? Obviously aq very silly forum to talk. Obviously you know nothing about quantum physic. You want to play the past glories claim? try Ph.D in quantum mechanics. Alas you anyone read this serious will see you totally missed my sarcasm, totally missed on the logic front, and are extremely self righteous. I pity you. No wait I don't

  • A humanist values human beings and logic. Yet, here the humanist attacks someone vigorously simple for possessing an idea other than his own. With no real refutation. Even wants me to give up my beliefs for his. I believe THAT'S self-righteousness. Maybe the problem isn't sarcasm, but projection.

  • I love it that I am such a threat to your beleif system you have to resort to assumptions that have no basis in reality. You know nothing about me but fall back into using the christan cliches to put me in a box because you can not deal with uncertainty, This is ironic given you name "freeinallthings". You are enslaved to ideas others have told you because gray scares the hell out of you. Everything you have said is a box for you deperate search for explanations.

  • Until you can accept the world does not fit you tight little box you can't be free. Until you can face the unknow with fear becasue you don't understand the world, then you are free. I am nothing like all your assumptions, but since you have to prove yourself publicly, you are the self righteous one. Oh yea, I got a Ph.D in psychology too. Odd combination but sure lets me see thrugh the cheap viel of lies people like you throw out as truth.

  • No neeed to reply, becasue I will delete all future emails without reading. But I suspect you will becasue you are desperate to justify who you are. The very defintion of psychological slavery. (dumbed down). Now that I said this you might have the self discipline to not reply in an attempt to prove me wrong. I need zero afermation of who I am from you or anyone. Your respones are classic transference. Might want to see a shink. Good bye, forever.

  • @nililic, riiiiiiight, because your words are doing some good, right? But unless you really want my thoughts on *why* I made the video, I suppose it is pointless at this point to explain myself *again.* By the way, with what authority do you speak? Who warranted your negativism, how so, and why? And how does that make you any better than your idea you hold of God? Your negativism is no better than your bleak view of a "God" you are so bitter towards. Where do you get off being so bitter then?

  • Your negativism AND your negativity, by the by, for both places it is mentioned.

  • @nililic - huh? who is "happily sending billions to hell"???? God isn't happy when people reject Him, so i know you aren't talking about God. Go find something useful to do, PLEASE.

  • @nililic and a comment like this is sure to draw the billions that are drifting closer to God. (please note the sarcasm)

  • @nililic and God never 'happily' sends people to hell--where were you misinformed with this?

  • I saw the Raggamuffin band at my sons high school...Rich never made it and it just wasnt the same...Rich I ..love you and miss you..we could of been soul matesoxoxox

  • Do you have anything better to do than trying to nit pick on youtube?

    Sheesh.

Don't the feed trolls...the only thing that works for them is ignoring them into starvation.

  • Very true since they are incapable of reason. I am sure the imaginary most holy, omnipotent God is quite honored by such milquetoast drivel set to a background of a pagan movie while he happily sends billions to hell.

  • I never said that copyright violations are OK if they're done in God's name.

This is shared under Fair Use, as long as it does not harm the commercial value - meaning that people no longer need to buy it. Which is why posting the entire work of something is discouraged, because that harms the commercial value. This (video) does not.

  • I'm not showing the movie outside the home. Is this the whole movie posted publicly? No. It's snippets, added to music, for a unique combination 'created' by me. Once more, I point out that this is protected under Fair Use, especially considering it does NOT harm the commercial value: people still need to buy it, since I have not actually shared the movie.

  • Self delusion is mind numbing. But then you do believe in a myth. so ....

  • nililic--God loves you too--seek the real truth and you will find a Savior waiting for you-Christ wants no-one to perish and offers peace of heart and mind in a world gone astray

  • On the song side of things -- there are actually many CDs I would never have bought if I hadn't have heard the music on the internet first. I'm not about to drop 15-30 dollars or more for a CD if I did not know I liked it. If people like this song, they're encouraged to buy the CD. I would buy the CD if I liked the music, but I wouldn't know until I heard it. (on a side note, I do own the CD this song is on - and there are many others I'm waiting to have the money to buy 'cause I know I love it)

  • Retarded argument.........WHO CARES???

  • Lets look at the law, "Fair Use".

    copyright [dot] gov/fls/fl102.html

"Section 107 contains a list of the various purposes for which the reproduction of a particular work may be considered fair, such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Section 107 also sets out four factors to be considered in determining whether or not a particular use is fair:

    1. The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofi

  • RICH MULLINS

  • This is my favorite song because it reminds me that when we get weak and tired from and of this world, we know that we can get our strength from God. All those times that you did not think he cared and all those times you did not realize He wanted to be the center of your life and you just kept trying in the flesh to fix things 'my' way and hold on to 'my dreams' and then you pick up the broken pieces of 'your life' and give it back to God when you finally want 'His life.'

  • meh.. I dunno if POTC fits w/ rich mullins... but the song is GREAT!

  • LivingfortheFather,

The song is great! One of my favourites. :D

  • Rich was a total pirate ;-) OK, maybe for a Halloween costume :) Rich was a cool guy, VERY human, loved Jesus beyond all things and loved Ireland and Native American people... and yeah i think there was a little pirate blood there too ;-)

He just had this whole... I don't know how to say it. People want to make Rich a saint and he'd be the first to say, "Nooo - go look at JESUS!". Rich's life and work and attitude just totally saved mine . I love the man like family!

  • lol! I knew he loved Native Americans and - didn't he live with them, or on a reservation, or something?

He was very humble. Yes, it is one of the things I admire in who he was. It is really cool to see someone just point to Jesus when people try and place them on a pedestal or something. It's aspiring and inspiring, actually. At least for me. :)

Oh, and if you could, I would be interested in seeing one of those interviews, if you could find one for me please!

  • If you're interested in learning more about his life, attitude and how he was totally sold out to loving Jesus and spreading that love to everyone he came into contact with, i recommend reading "An Arrow Pointing to Heaven" by James Bryan Smith.

  • @amylh322 And that's exactly what makes him a saint.

  • @lstdy - YES!! :)

  • @LivingfortheFather, look at it without a thought of the movie then. Look at it as a MUSIC VIDEO. It wasn't necessarily meant to hold connection to the movie, but rather used as clips to interpret a song since I cannot film my own to make a music video!

  • This is very clever! I'll borrow a Rich word for it "WAY cool" :) I think he'd approve. And I haven't even seen all of these flicks! But yeah his stuff was not "just" for church. Rich loved Jesus and people and he wanted to represent Jesus well and truthfully to people. This is def. a song about human relationships, but i doubt RWM would mind if it touched someone in a different way! He was an artist - a poet. He'd more than likely dig this. :)

  • amylh322,

really? That is totally awesome! It's encouraging to hear you say that about how he'd feel. One of my main reasons for making this vid, though, was to share his work... which most people can't seem to understand. *shrugs* Oh well. I am glad you liked it, though! Thanks so much for your comment! It meant a whole lot to me!

  • Yeah - he would have liked it. I say this in the context of knowing how much he loved to go to the movies and how he liked it when people used his songs the right way. I'm trying to think of a good interview to send you to where he talks about that. I'll check my stuff and get back with you of you're interested!!

  • Richard said in his "Studio B" broadcast, "This is the most honest love song I could write." So it is both a breakup song and a love song. Richard had a lot of trouble letting go of relationships others would have given up on long before.

  • helyxa,

He did? That's cool! Hearing what you said makes the song mean that much more and I understand more where he was coming from. :)

  • Yeah, apart from the demos for the Jesus record this was one of the last songs he recorded. . . but the very last one he recorded on vinyl was "New Mexico". Even after the falling out, he still wanted her to come see him in New Mexico and wrote about "the times we ain't seen yet." You know how he always talked about loving like God loves, not expecting anything in return. Outstanding person.

  • This is a song about the fragility of our relationship with our creator due to our human condition. Nice work on the video but it has nothing to do with the message song.

  • Actually, Rich specifically said multiple times that this was a "break up song" at his concerts. It was about romantic relationships, not about our relationship with our creator.

  • Jdchristy,

I didn't know he said that! That's cool, anyway. :D

    cwmilo,

    thanks for your comment.

  • I love this song

  • invisibleinventor,

I love it, too! It's one of my favourites by Rich. :)

  • turned a Rich Mullins song into a whitesnake video...funny.

  • Wow what a bizarre pairing. Rich Mullins and POTC. The video is done well but is just beyond bizarre to me.

  • Bizarre? Hmm... *shrugs* It seems... normal to me. lol. But I thank you for your comment!

  • Great clip to go with the song! I haven't seen the second and third movies, but the scenes definitely drive the song's point home. We as humans are a fallen race, and we're always in need of God's grace.

  • Guitarcastle2,

Thank you!! I appreciate your comment! I am glad the meaning and feel the song was powerful for you. :)

  • Hey, very nice job I think! I am a huge fan of Rich Mullins, not very of PotC but I will have to take a second look.

I kept wanting to see more of this romance brought out when i was watching this movie but I just didn't see it. You have however brought it out wonderfully and sadly as love and life are , and the song goes well, I have always thought this was one song of his that just might be about a romance. I can't believe you did this in 2 days! I think there must be 1 POTC i haven't seen,

  • Thank you a lot!!

I agree! I actually was a little sad with some of the twists they made, some of the turns they took with Will and Elizabeth's relationship. But it creates a good opportunity for something like sharing this song. ;) :D

  • I'm a Christian. I can see where you're going with this. Like you, I love Rich Mullins' songs very much and if this get others who've never heard his beautiful work to want to listen to his other works, then it's worth it. Well done.

  • Thank you! It means a lot. Especially that you can understand where I was coming from. And I am glad to hear that you believe the truth. :D Thanks again!

  • well done! VERY well done!

  • Thank you!!

  • I'm pretty sure thats Rich singing but why is this with movie footage, was it a score for this film? Rich Mullins music deserves more than just being backup for some dumb film.

  • That is Rich Mullins singing, and I told people that in the description. I am a huge fan of Rich's work, and I am more than happy to let people know that he was the one who created that wonderful music they hear.

I made this video because I love Rich Mullins and I love PotC. The idea came to me, so I made the vid. No disrespect was meant. And no, it was not a score for the film, I just felt that the music fit the characters. This was created purely for entertainment purposes.

  • I am sorry if I offended you, and do not get me wrong - I love Rich's work and want others to hear it. Part of my reasoning for using one of his songs (aside from the idea of it fitting the characters and for entertainment) was to share around his wonderful work. And you are correct, it does deserve to be more than just a backup for a film, but I cannot change anything. All I can do is share it, and that is what I have done.

  • No disrespect was meant by creating this video - on the contrary, I was showing my respect of his work by using it, as well.

  • Truth is truth whether it's being sung in a church or used to illustrate a point in a movie.

  • YAY! first view!! LOVE it, Mellon nin! AMAZING song for those two, and a very nice video. sounds like a hard song ot make a video too, Kudos!

    Kel

  • lol! You always seem to be my first view! You're a very good friend! *hugs*

Thanks so much! I did have trouble a few times, and let me tell you something: I got it done up until the VERY ending, but I didn't really like all of it... so when I was cooking dinner and listening to the song, new ideas came and the video went through a bit of revision. lol! I think I did more revision for this video than I did for Anywhere.
