You are both right.. evolution is partly down to chance, as it's due to random mutations. However certain random mutations are more favourable than other, in which case they are sustained in the DNA

@caliskate04, first cells weren't "bubbles with molecules", that is a lie, such a cell has never been found in the fossil record, nor have they ever managed to create such a primitive self-surviving cell. It only exists in the heads of those who invented such a lie, like most of the theory of evolution. A self-sufficient cell (first or not first) MUST be and IS an amazingly intricate and complex system of amazingly intricate and complex machines... otherwise it wouldn't survive, even for a sec!

@caliskate04, have they been tested? That's a lie mate and you know it. Did they take a "handfull" of random molecules, "mix it up" and the thing started to self-replicate and survive on it's own? Never has such a thing happened mate. 2. point: The scientists you are talking about never created anything from scratch. They merely synthesized a dna from an existing dna code! Meaning, they copied a dna code and put it into a cell that had no dna! Yeah, you don't need to be a god to do that mate!

YES the "protobionts" (earths early cells) have been tested and form naturally AS I WAS SAYING. nucleic acids (the fucking building blocks of dna) are naturally found on clay (and other sources!). The first cells were found in 3.5 million year old fossils !
