For centuries, the wheel was used, while simultenously, sleds were used by for instance the Egyptians. Both worked fine, but as technologies developed, the wheel became dominant, until eventually the sled as means of transportation of loads was altogether forgotten.
The wheel worked, and from it cars were gradually developed.

OK, so I'm going mess up the future scientists and bury my car beneath my handcart. Their heads will explode! Will the motorbike leave a fossilized skeleton? Will our future oil be made from handcart, automobile, bicycle remains? The whole thing hurts my head so I best leave it for these most wise and....umm....orange bearded muslim scientists. I'm sure if they think real long and hard it will keep them occupied for a long time.
