It sounds nothing like the bagpipes really (but it depends on the type of bagpipe you're thinking of). You'll notice there are two pipes one is a drone and one is for fingering the melody, this gives it a harmonic overtone that probably reminds you of the bagpipe sound. It's impressive that the guy is circular breathing for both.
a pungi or been ... but it does sound like the chanter part of the bag pipe.
