**TO ALL!!!** I am the highland dancer in this video. I was very young when i did this and i know it wasn't good at all and i know this. It was my first time ever really dancing it and i thought i would give it a try. WE ARE A *REENACTMENT* band NOT* A Competition pipe band. This is really how it would have been back in the 18th century. We do this for fun NOT competition. Thats all.
you know i do highland danceing im still learning sword but i mean really i know more than this kid i mean terable pody ba's however you spell it :P well i must say the pipper guy sounds like hes chokeing sorry if my spelling sucks, im a littiel tired right now but yea they stink.
@DisfunctionalMisfunc the sword dance was done the night before battle, they would request there best dancers to perform the dance. If the dance was successful and the dancer did not kick or touch one of the swords it was said that the battle the next day would be won. if the swords were kicked or touched well lets just say lots of drinking was done that night haha.
@tmarshmellowt ooh, tempting fate alittle. Well i guess nothing takes bad omens of the mind like a hangover from hell XD. Well that was informative, makes alot of sense, i would probably never of known the reason for highlander sword dances if you never answered my question, so, thankees.
@DisfunctionalMisfunc well they do it cause well idk but its a scottish thing im learning to do it and this is my 7th week of doing this class and i love it :D
I recall the games when I was a child. I saw both Lads and Lass dance. Men were (as you know) are heavier and so their throw was less. It did not take away from their performance. The Lassies were a wee bit nimbler. Overall I remember the landing of the feet to the rhythm. It made me feel proud.
Highland dancing was originally done by soldiers. The refined dancing you see done by mainly girls these days is what most people are used to seeing. I am a former Highland dancer and retired teacher of dancing.
Damn a retarded chimp on crack could have done a better job. That really sucked. And the piping sucked. Was he using his ass to play? They simply butchered a simply glorious dance.
You call that a dancer holy shyte, his arms weren't raised, he didn't point his toes his PDB's were horrific, brought the sword dance to a shame I tell you that
@highrishdancer Ghillies are not traditional, folk didn't carry them around in case they danced when they were out. Scottish men traditionally danced in their stocking feet! Can you imagine it..."give us a dance will ye laddy?" "Aye, just let me get ma ghillies on." O-o
Are you American? Sorry a million times over if you aren't, but they're OTT stupid about being Scottish.
@2sick2care Yeh thanks for that. I am American, but I'm also a championship level highland dancer and teacher, so I do speak from a point of intelligence. Aussies can be just as "stupid" on the same matter. Regardless, it was also documented that they'd dance in whatever shoes they were wearing--this isn't a social dance, it's a war dance, and God knows they'd have shoes on during were. I realise this isn't modern highland dance, but this is quite silly.
@highrishdancer The way it should be done is in a pair of good strong regulation boots at 04:00 on a rainy morning at Ft. George with the Black Isle to your back and the the graves of Drumossie Moore in front of you and the Pipie cursing away in the Gaelic. " Oich what his ta matter wit chew boy is it the 2 left feet that chew have then." Now that's a soldfiers life not this soft shoes and fecty kilts wee nickers.
@ScottishShorts Historically, that's probably more accurate... However, that "Gaelic" was incorrect... That was actually a bad attempt as "Scotts"... And whilst that might be a more accurate description of an ancient Scottish soldier's life, highland dancing, as it exists today, is still FAR more athletic than it was then... Even if we are wearing "soft shoes and fecty kilts".
