i had a 2000 jetta tdi that had the original trans and motor..never had any major problems with it. infact the only problem i had was the diesel fuel gelling up at -12f outside tempature. It didn't want to run. Once the outside temp got above 0, it ran fine. I put 240,000 miles on this car and sold it for over $2000!

@MrJonny5speed i forgot to mention while the car is on the charger with the cables hooked back up, turn the key all the way on and donot try to start the vw..
I got the same problem with my 2000 vw jetta 2.0 so are you saying you fix the problem by changing the oil? Or was it the key and I heard something to do with the ECM can you help me out?
@whistonc read the comment i just posted.. if ur immobilzer light is on that will help!! :) tobad my pos jetta isnt running right now do to other unknown problems!
2006 Volkes is simply AWFUL...first had a problem with the heat. Got cold when at a light; air cond in the summer got hot when at a light; fog light came off: they at the dealer said $400 bucks went to my local guy $15! The head light out: says they must take off everything bumper hood to get at the light: $400 bucks. said I should do two so a total of over $700 for a gd light-bulb. Why? DESIGN...HORRIBLE design cannot get to the simple light-got two opinions same thing! I HATE this car.
should of called me. I'd tell yah they are the biggest piles of crap ever. VW's are junk ppl. Do not buy german made junk! They've had like a hundred years to correct their electrical issues and still they cannot get it right. GARBAGE
There's a greater correlation between reliability and year the car was made than reliability and brand the car was made under. People basing arguments on brand only are fucking idiots.
@supernub67 Take a look at the surveys and statistics. Search the net for most reliable and customer satisfaction etc. Just remember. The "German" cars you drive in America are not all German. Many are BUILT IN THE USA! Likewise, American badge cars in the rest of the world are often the product of local engineers and design teams (Ford Europe is a good example.) The Volkswagen in this video was built in Mexico! So I don't consider it a fully German product!
Don't buy a VW? lol. Just go buy a Chevy and have twice the problems.
There isn't many options out there. You're Funny ass shit. All Domestic cars are complete shit. You only have two choices for decent cars. VW/Audi. Toyota/Lexus. Have it your way though. Buy a piece of shit :D
@iDarek92 i agree i had a few gm cars and all i hated and had to fix to much.but i dont like how you dont list hondas, idk about the hondas in the 05 and up years but the older ones are cheap on parts and take a ass beating like a champ.had a 95 civic and beat it for 2 years till i hit a deer at 80,loved the car but didnt pay shit for it so didnt care if she blew up but it seen the redline so many time and the motor still ran like a champ.got a vw now hope it does the same
@supernub67 lol, that is a very funny statement you had here. I always work on cars and would hate to have a piece of shit that never brakes. This is a pretty bad problem with the immobilizer this guy is having here. It could cost him around $1500 as he might need new clusters. Shit could always break, nothing is perfect, only ignorant losers believe in perfect. GM has the worst looking pieces of shit. Believe it or not Parts for domestic cars have half the quality but are are twice as much.
note that this video is from 2009 - i still have this car and have been working on it myself now that the warranty is up.
THIS particular problem was an issue with the key itself. the spare key did work but VW also got me a new key. yes, it's because I am an idiot and dont know how to maintain my vehicle. mostly due to oil changes. ~huk
i drive for a taxi firm we have 4, 08 (2008 uk) plated cars that are skoda octavias 1.9 TDI they are the first shape octavias just plated for 2008 as they stopped production in 2004 for the new shape and had a surplus so basically these were cheap new cars
they have all done around 150,000 and ok 2 of them had a failure of the cam shaft that proved expenisve for my boss but everything else has been fine apart from the odd electrical niggle but they have never failed to start
@supernub67 lol. you are spectacularly ill informed. SAAB went downhill AFTER GM took over. The products pre-GM era were well known to be fantastic and reliable. After GM took over, quality went way down, and the design and parts from the GM made the cars suffer. SAAB never had trouble because of reliability, they had lousy marketing and the odd design made the car a tough sell. FYI I'v driven everything from Ford's to Porsche's and the German have by far the best feel.
@supernub67 wow look who has a chip on their shoulder. actually, I know more than a few mechanics that drive Audi's and Volkswagen. But I've owned an Audi and a Saab (old gen) and I can tell you they are bullet proof. Brother drove a jetta base, also bullet proof. Ya shit breaks.. shit ALWAYS breaks. If you drive a boring basic car like a corolla then obviously it won't break because there's no equipment on those cars. I.e. nothing TO break.
mine is at 130k miles and the engine light came on, abs and speed sensor light came on, water pump was leaking, all that shit and i fixed it all myself and the engine is still strong and turbo still spools AND i get 31 hwy mpg
@irishboxer92 That's great. It always happens that way though lol. It's almost as if the car is testing you :P. I had to replace my timing because of my water pump. My coolant started leaking from the housing. It all happened at the same time. Here I am one year later not a single problem :D. I love my vw. me any my bro own all 1.8T,VR6 and 2.0. All great engines. my personal is the 2.0, its very reliable.
sure I'd be happy wtih an overly expensive car that is harder to work on and breaks down more. If i did get a German car I' want it to be new with a warranty
@LegendofHogger okay i was under the assumption that you had a gti since we are on a gti video, thats the car that looks like an egg. If you want to know why i think VW sucks, its because i drive an 04 gli. So actually fuck yourself, my car is slow as dick, i cant believe i wasted money putting a k04 into it. You prob have like a shit 1.8t. SLOW. i cant wait to get rid of this piece
@LegendofHogger because it gets you where you need to go in the shape of an egg. It starts everyday looking like an egg and it gets you where you need to go looking like an egg. It's actually a very slow, less premium german car. Also if you google "Top ten gayest cars", you will see that the gti/rabbit body style is indeed the gayest looking car ever made.
every car has their problems so get it taken to someone who knows alot about vws and take it there not the dealer and your chip in your key may be bad
I have a 2000 jetta gls and it is the best car I've ever owned!! Very reliable as long as you keep up with the maintenance! I just don't understand why people complain about how much it is to fix repair the cars, it's not bad at all!
i just got a used 2008 jetta with 16 k on it and my transmission went into fail safe mode the other day for no reason, vw says they can;t find the problem. we'll see how long this car stays in my driveway...fuck.
i kinda agree but VWs are for people that have common sense to maintain a car properly that being said VWs from about 01 to 03 suck i have a jetta turbo with 100k miles, which i would love, motors awsome but the transmission stalls like a mother im repairing it myself to save 2,000 dollars.
i will never buy a European car until i am filthy rich becuz they are unreliable and unnecessarily expensive to buy except volvo Volvo has the best reliability out of any European automaker if u want reliability but not a whole lot of fun then buy japanese if u want more fun but little bit less reliability then buy american if all you want is fun the buy european
VW's are fine, sometimes the owners aren't quite up to speed though, instead of bitching about it, why not go online and look up the plethora of info pages on this very issue, it's the battery in your key failing dude.
Get under the hood and once it over, dealers are worthless, find a local enthusiast owned shop, those guys know their stuff.
If You want all them lights shot off 1 Close the door. 2 Put your seat belt on. 3 take your car off the e-brake. 4 your high beams are on so you might want to turn them off 5. fill up your car with windshield washer. 6 make sure you have enough anifreeze to the line where it says maximum. PROBLEM SOLVED!
Dudes and Dudettes: If he had it in the shop to be fixed and they can't fix it then I'd say that that IS a problem. This problem has NOTHING to do with maintenance. I'd take it to another VW shop that maybe has a tech who knows his ass from a hole in the ground.
your mistake is to not maintain well the car, or something you did bad someday with it... i own an 1.6, and only had an issue with airbag... vw are good cars, are between the best cars, so you don't know what you are talking about.... fix its problem and that's all ;)
i see where you'd be pissed what with all the problems and what not but agree that saying all vw's suck is kinda not fair ... partly because its not true ...
its is a bad chip in the key had the same problem.... by simply using a different key it solved the problem for me....not rocket science with the time you spend complaining on how much the car sucks you could use it and actually do some thinking of what could be wrong and fix it
Hey dude I had a GTi 1.8 last year and I had the alternator recall on mine.. Problem is I wasn't aware mine was affected and it quit on me on the middle of a highway... when its working right, its a great car. I bought an '07 3.6 4Motion recently though, you should take a look at them
Would never buy VW again (no accountability for the cam follower design flaw). They are basic transportation that is an entry level into the German experience (one that is usually very costly so prepare yourself). Never own one off warranty. Save up and get a BMW (still costly but at least more reliable). My mistake was to think it could be a commuter car......my bad.
lol the only vws that have problems are the ones owned by idiots, i have a 05 1.8t gti with apr software upgrade and a drop in air filter and I havent had a single issue with it, i fuckin love my dub =)
yes cars have problems, NOT all vw's are bad. German cars can be very rliable IF they are maintained well. I would know i have had a vw, and am driving an audi now...and both of them have never given me and issue, maybe i am lucky...but i like german engineering.
The safety rating of a 1999 golf gti is higher than the new shape ford ka so the t reg must be more modern than that right? LMAO I've never heard such shit in my life.
No a saxo doesn't have headlights like a bugatti, but the headlights on a mk2 saxo are more modern than the headlights on a mk4 golf.
The MK4 looks outdated? I'm sure the MK4 1.8T Golf has climate control, heated recaro seats, cruse control, EPS, T/C, abs, 4 airbags, 4 star euro ncap safety rating, electric sunroof, 4 electric windows, heated electric mirrors, CD multichanger, 12 year paintwork guarantee.
The Saxo vtr has none of this because it is outdated, lol
That's why only chav's drive them as they are dirt cheap.
@18Turbo220 4 star safety rating, cruise control, 4 electric windows etc.. That's equipment you thick twat, A 1980 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL has cruise control, heated seats, traction control blah blah but its still not a modern car is it? A 1999 mk4 golf gti is outdated and looks it compared to a 2003 saxo VTR, the newer car more modern looking. A newer car will always be more modern regardless of it's equipment.
Chavs all add noisy fart exhausts on their outdated bangers don't they. lol
Also the so called mk1 Saxo is the same car as the mk2 saxo apart from the face lift. Citroën never made a Mk2 Saxo because it got replaced by the Citroën C2. And the MK4 Golf out sold the Saxo easy.
MK4 Golf = Euro style.
Saxo = more Jap style.
Overall the Mk4 Golf is more modern as it has good equipment and safety features. No modern car has a 2 star safety rating like the Saxo, OWNED.
Your so dumb. MK4 golf 1998- 2004 - stayed the same, nothing changed.
saxo 1996-2003? actually the saxo finished in 2004. The saxo mk2 has a few differences and better equipment than the mk1 like a cd player as standard not cassette player. It has curved "bug" headlights that look more modern, the bonnet is curved, the tail lights have changed, the interior has white dials with a digital readout, seats are black with different design, VTR engine is more powerful with 100bhp.
@18Turbo220 "Overall the Mk4 Golf is more modern as it has good equipment and safety features. No modern car has a 2 star safety rating like the Saxo"
So what your saying is a better safety rating makes a car more modern? LOL so a 1980 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL which has a better safety rating and better equipment than your t reg golf is more modern? or don't that count? You can't have it both ways kid. You self OWNED yourself again because your so stupid.
1980 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL hasn't got a better safety rating and better equipment than my car, What has a Mercedes-Benz 450SEL got than my car hasn't? Nothing fail.
Your car isn't modern just cause it's got white dials and "bug" headlights. Do Bugatti Veyron's have white dials or headlights that look anything like a saxos? No, you fail again.
Look at your dial lights, proper 1980's. Google images and search ''saxo vtr interior'' than ''mk4 golf 1.8t interior'' for a laugh.
@vtrsucks I own an MK4 that had the shit kicked out of it for the last 10 years, it has 308130 on it and its still kicking!! and I love the interior, I havnt seen another car as nice in the same price range and this isnt even power or leather, its just plain jane, still blows all the fords, toyotas, kias, cheves, nissans, misubishis, ect out of the water!
@saadatorama or better yet. spend the very little amount of money it takes to fix this problem. these cars have lots of problems--but they are almost all cheap fixes (unless transmission related). i have an 01 GTI VR6, and EVERY single time it has an issue, it costs very little to fix. VW has to make their money somehow. there's a reason why american cars can't offer such amazing build quality for the same price.
@MrIkesimba build QUALITY isn't the same as build RELIABILITY. the QUALITY of the interior materials surpass that of an american car. RELIABILITY on the other hand, is different. just because something looks nice (quality), doesn't mean it's RELIABLE.
VW's are good cars, but ONLY when they are owned by people who know how to MAINTAIN a car. Get a Honda or a Toyota if you're not good with cars or know how to maintain them right.
@Hellz420 i take offense to that because i am an ASE certified mechanic i work for a BMW dealer in south FL and have lots of experience with volkswagens they are not the worst but far from the best. i owned a 2011 mk6 GTI for a month and the transmission blew up, then the clutches kept wearing out i told my dealership that it was a lemon they gave me my money back and i bought a 2011 BMW 328i yea theres a big price gap but i want my girlfriend and daughter to be in something safe and reliable
@makemebad747 safe = vw or BMW. reliable = neither vw or bmw. even though that gti gave you trouble, i guarantee you that the maintenance on the BMW will add up to a lot more spent in the long run.
@Hellz420 fuck that. These things are pieces of german engineered garbage. It has nothing to do with maintnance but engineering fuck ups. I own one. THEY ARE GARBAGE. What a VW is is a German Chevrolet bud.
@zortab then go get yourself a bland, and very boring looking japanese car; while i enjoy my beautifully crafted german car. i could care less about reliability. all i care about, is the fact that they got the styling/appearance done perfectly.
@Hellz420 I said nothing against the styling but their electrical engineering department. On the other hand I love BMW and merc. they seem to produce cars that function. VW is garbage. And I lived in Europe for quite some time too....
@Bryanb113 VW's aren't for broke ass college students, kids, or people with low incomes. i hate to break it to you, but that is what makes having a german car "cool" - because your average joe can't afford to keep it running. buying the car is one thing; being able to afford it is another. out of every domestic i've driven; my GTI drove far more nicely and felt more connected with the road. even mechanics tell me they love driving it.
damn all these videos of vdub this vdub that people just need to take care of their cars replace the oil check the water, everything hasnt anyone heard the saying take care of the car and it will take care of you?
@adamslurch71 you my friend, are a fucking idiot. you believe in, based on your subscriptions, paranormal activity. "'nuff sed"
lol. but keep up the good work. spend more time on my channel talking useless and ungrounded shit, then get mad and call me a "piss-ant" even though you're the one coming back.. fucking dumb bitch. go find something better to do w/ your life.
2008 Golf R32; nothing but great stories to tell; fantastic car, not 1 bad thing I can say about it. I don't think 1 problematic car can speak for an entire car company.
Immobilizer. Try another key or get it reprogrammed. That's so any Tom ,Dick, or Harry can't come in off the street with a key and steal your car.
I understand your frustration and that you posted a video looking for an answer, but try a bit of research before you post a "VW sucks" video. Especially when it's something simple like that and you make yourself look like a dumbass for posting something so brainless.
my shit fucked up on mine in the last couple weeks. thank god i bought the warranty. it could also be the plug under the seat. unplug everything and plug it back in. sometimes that works. mine has the wipers, cruise control, steering assist all failing. my guess is the clock spring in the steering wheel.
then again... i had a '95 civic before my '08 jetta and my civic was unreliable too. always had to replace the brake pads & rotors every summer. ate tires like crazy. the exhaust system was always rusting off the car until i made my own from stainless steel and put on a quality weld. tranny blew at 120k on my civic. i mean vw isn't that. and yeah, it's a hell of a lot better than a toyota that the accelerator will stick to the floor and kill you.
I had my Passat since 2001. Love the car & styling but its a money pit. I took it to dealer yesterday for the recalls. I asked if they could diagnose the other problems(there's about 20). They said it would be $60-$120 to diagnose each problem. One of them was an broken interior door handle. Imagine that.
I put in on craiglist's yesterday. Its already sold. Bye to VW, their crappy warranty, dealers, service departments and reliability. My 96 Pathfinder didn't have a 10th of these problems.
yea audi deff suck.....even tho my 97 a4 with 245k on it can still show a wrx what a real car is...but yea they are deff shit.....and my friends 97 jetta vr6 only had 200k but still beat a 300 zx......yep german cars suck......
@Kingmerik999 bahahahaha! you dont know the half of it ^_^
but seriously, Im a magic man... with magic hands...
at this point I know every inch of that car more intimately that anyone should.so that gives me an edge over all you guys that bring it into a shop and pay $97/hour
@Kingmerik999 yes and I own a 2001 golf TDI with 305,700 on it and that had been accident ed twice and abused badly up until last year when I bought it.
@escuadron401 thats how the immobilizer works, it allows you to crank and start the car , then it will run for about 1 second and die. the key is bad, try another key( the valet key)
you probably put in a radio in ur self or did some kind of mod ursef, thats what happened.....i had 04 GLI with k03 that i flipped 3 times and the only probs i had are the ones that i caused and were EASY fixes....now i have an 06 a4 and have never had any problems.....if you bought the car and then that happened then get ur shit checked out b4 u spend ur money....also if you get someone that knows their VW ud be surprised how easy they are
ok the probleme is not Volkswagen , because Volkswagen is one of the best cars in the world , the problem I think is that you did buy the right VW, im sure you VW is built in MEXICO insted of GERMANY , Mexico cant make good VW , but GERMAN V
i dont get it. clearly your having electrical problems as most german cars do. Yet for some reason VW fanboys deem that you are the one that caused the problem instead of attributing the issue to the fact that german cars have iffy electrical systems. Lol these dumbasses actually have the balls to say that you were the one at fault when you are just relaying what i have known for years as a automotive electrician.
@mucura1 jaguars are known for electrical problems. VW's are not. as with any car manufacturer they have had they're lemons over the years. and yes, you are correct, this is not the guys fault. this an issue with the chip in the key.
@PhaetonPower actually, i dont believe in paying 30+k for a fwd car, so ya, i would say audis suck. this problem has been an electrical problem that's persisted. i maintain my car well and take good care of it... i am at a loss for what to do since it keeps recognizing my key as the wrong key. stupid fucking immobilizer. i mean, other than electrical problems, I LOVE MY VW... but the electrical problems just pissed me the fuck off, and as such, i made this vid.
@saadatorama sucks for your problems i had a 99 passat v6 with 190k on it and the tack went out and all the warning lights came on but i still had it up to 230k but i still got another vw i got a 05 gli it has 82k and its great had no problems. oh and most audis are awd but i still wouldnt pay 30k for one id get a used one
@saadatorama exactly my point. If your gonna have a vdub become part of a forum such as vwvortex. save yourself some money and research your problems yourself, most mechanics, even alot of stealership mechanics, don't know shit. read and learn from other peoples experiences. and research your own car! and as sooo many people have said its probably the key, the mech. that you brought it to prob didn't even know about it. there mentality is replace shit, thats how they make money man.
i drive a vw, and i'm not a pompous asshole. i love vw's, but i will agree they are a lot of trouble. we in the vw community tend to call them "brokeswagens". but, lucky for me, i know a group of guys who will come running at the drop of a hat to help me fix my car, and they would do the same for any vw owner. i save a lot of money on labor that way. buy parts cheap online, and make a weekend out of fixing the car. sucks that it worked out this way for your car tho.
We had a 2004 Jetta, transmission problems and windows falliing out. Traded it in 07 for a Chrysler which has been a much better experience. Also had a Toyota same thing feel like they were both built at the same place. Oh and I have had 5 GM vehicles 1 Ford and with the above Chrysler, 3 Chryslers all 9 did not have half the problems the VW and Toyota had! And I take into account age mileage and maintenance. I dont mind paying or doing maintenance so..... no foreign for me.
@cashw55 What I mean to say is, if there are not several dealers ready to work and or answer all questions about my vehicle I would not buy. Both foreign vehicle's dealers were absolutely no help. For Chrysler there are 3 dealers within 30 minutes drive. GM the same, Ford there are 2. So if I move and the dominant car company is Hyundai or whoever, guess what?
i had a 2000 jetta tdi that had the original trans and motor..never had any major problems with it. infact the only problem i had was the diesel fuel gelling up at -12f outside tempature. It didn't want to run. Once the outside temp got above 0, it ran fine. I put 240,000 miles on this car and sold it for over $2000!

@LegendofHogger because it gets you where you need to go in the shape of an egg. It starts everyday looking like an egg and it gets you where you need to go looking like an egg.

OldGolfsSuck 1 year ago
VW golfs suck. The mk4 are chav bangers and look outdated.
OldGolfsSuck 1 year ago
@OldGolfsSuck
18Turbo220 1 year ago
@18Turbo220 4 star safety rating, cruise control, 4 electric windows etc.. That's equipment you thick twat, A 1980 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL has cruise control, heated seats, traction control blah blah but its still not a modern car is it? A 1999 mk4 golf gti is outdated and looks it compared to a 2003 saxo VTR, the newer car more modern looking. A newer car will always be more modern regardless of it's equipment.
Chavs all add noisy fart exhausts on their outdated bangers don't they. lol
OldGolfsSuck 1 year ago
@OldGolfsSuck
Golf Mk4 1998 -2004
Saxo 1996 - 2003 Saxo is less modern.
Also the so called mk1 Saxo is the same car as the mk2 saxo apart from the face lift. Citroën never made a Mk2 Saxo because it got replaced by the Citroën C2. And the MK4 Golf out sold the Saxo easy.
MK4 Golf = Euro style.
Saxo = more Jap style.
Overall the Mk4 Golf is more modern as it has good equipment and safety features. No modern car has a 2 star safety rating like the Saxo, OWNED.
18Turbo220 1 year ago
@18Turbo220
OldGolfsSuck 1 year ago
@18Turbo220 "Overall the Mk4 Golf is more modern as it has good equipment and safety features. No modern car has a 2 star safety rating like the Saxo"
So what your saying is a better safety rating makes a car more modern? LOL so a 1980 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL which has a better safety rating and better equipment than your t reg golf is more modern? or don't that count? You can't have it both ways kid. Get a grip little man, I don't need video editing software to make my car fast, you do.
Remember
MR2Fast2Good's 90bhp Saxo VTR. Power to Weight: 99 bhp/ton - 0-60 5.5 seconds
300bhp Focus RS. Power to Weight: 208 bhp/ton - 0-60 5.7 seconds.
Amazing how the RS has more than twice the power to weight than you saxo but your saxo is faster to 60mph, FAIL

Google images and search ''saxo vtr interior'' than ''mk4 golf 1.8t interior'' for a laugh.

saadatorama 1 year ago 12
@saadatorama or better yet. spend the very little amount of money it takes to fix this problem. these cars have lots of problems--but they are almost all cheap fixes (unless transmission related). i have an 01 GTI VR6, and EVERY single time it has an issue, it costs very little to fix. VW has to make their money somehow. there's a reason why american cars can't offer such amazing build quality for the same price.
Hellz420 10 months ago
@Hellz420 LOL fucking wut? You admit that "these cars have lots of problems" but then claim that they have amazing build quality? Nice contradiction.
MrIkesimba 10 months ago
@MrIkesimba build QUALITY isn't the same as build RELIABILITY. the QUALITY of the interior materials surpass that of an american car. RELIABILITY on the other hand, is different. just because something looks nice (quality), doesn't mean it's RELIABLE.
Hellz420 10 months ago

take it to dealership.
i took mine into the shop and they fixed it. take it to a different dealer if it's under warranty.
they told me it was some control module that wasn't making contact and the clock spring was screwy.
it's easy to fix if you have the parts. u just gotta remember to disconnect the battery so the airbag doesn't deploy.
hogger129 1 year ago
my shit fucked up on mine in the last couple weeks. thank god i bought the warranty. it could also be the plug under the seat. unplug everything and plug it back in. sometimes that works. mine has the wipers, cruise control, steering assist all failing. my guess is the clock spring in the steering wheel.
hogger129 1 year ago
then again... i had a '95 civic before my '08 jetta and my civic was unreliable too. always had to replace the brake pads & rotors every summer. ate tires like crazy. the exhaust system was always rusting off the car until i made my own from stainless steel and put on a quality weld. tranny blew at 120k on my civic. i mean vw isn't that. and yeah, it's a hell of a lot better than a toyota that the accelerator will stick to the floor and kill you.

Cars are foreign . . . . walk, you lier.
cashw55 1 year ago
@cashw55 What I mean to say is, if there are not several dealers ready to work and or answer all questions about my vehicle I would not buy. Both foreign vehicle's dealers were absolutely no help. For Chrysler there are 3 dealers within 30 minutes drive. GM the same, Ford there are 2. So if I move and the dominant car company is Hyundai or whoever, guess what?
