where do u live near the housatonic river?????? i live near the housatonic i remember one october it flooded and omg there is a camp near it where i live they had to get all new stuff.i live in lee massachusetts near it.i swam in it last week at that same camp but we got in ALOT of trouble.
I live in CT and have looked down from that same bridge and never seen it so full!!! I understand big y was surrounded down in New Milford too. nice footage!
LOL you must really live close by ;-) Yes, I heard Big Y had a moat too. That area always floods, you would thinkg they would do something about that, but maybe they can't. This was the highest I've see the Housie here.
Unreal. That is an aw inspiring sight. Reminds me of back home in Maine. I just hope no gets hurt. White water flashes are underrated withtheir force.
WOW we had flooding in our part of the UK last year ( a month's rain in 24 hours) but didn't look as 'spectacular' if that is the right word under such circumstances
Just part of TG's normal drive to work, but there were worse spots of flooding we endured on the trip in (water across the road and all). This one was at least a hundred or more feet below us! Thanks for visiting, Val! (((hugs)))
We stayed opretty dry, the driveway nearly washed out though and there was water in the basement. But all in all we didn't have it as bad as others, we are on a mountain.
It was a wicked amount of rain, 4-5 inches. If that would have been snow it would have been 4-5 feet! Gack! How much did you get in total? Where are you?
The storm dumped 30 centimetres on Montreal, between 35 and 40 cm in the Lanaudière region, and 37 cm in Quebec City where this winter's snowfall is close to a record.
The storm brought snow, freezing rain and sleet to the Eastern Townships.
Environment Canada said winds as high as 133 km/h roared through some areas during the peak of the storm, creating snowdrifts on highways and major roads.
I'm sure the ground must be saturated with both rain and melting snow. I hope your driveway hangs in til you can get it patched and the dirt stays where you put it. Weird weather everywhere this year I think.
Thats the biggest problem after the snow and the rain comes it causes so much flooding, that river is wild. It does look beautiful and must be exciting standing there so close to it all. Stay safe.x.
Yes, Lee, the winds were horrific, weren;t they? Gusts to 60mph! I had a hard time falling asleep, we live in the woods. The only good thing was the winds dried out some of the roads so they didn't freeze and become icy. However, there were still a lot of roads closed and detours today.
I think you would be dead if you had tried it, but I'm no expert being a landlubber ;-) Because I was so high up you couldn't see how really angry and fast that water was moving. I really wish I had a comparison photo to show you the gigantic rocks that are under there! When the water recedes maybe....
Reflecting back on it and looking at the pictures now, it is beautiful. At the time it was terrifying. Not for me, but I knew that 2 miles down the river those people that live along it would be getting that coming though their neighborhoods! You are right about 1:41 ;-)
Thank God the sun is shining today! We have a quarter mile driveway that we almost lost last night. The water comes down the mountain and under our driveway through a 4ft. culvert, with a pair of 2ft. ones for overflow. Even with that the water was going over the driveway. Scary shit!
at 1:20 got me dizzy lol

Tremendous! I was worried about the two of you out on a day like that, so near the raging water! Thanks for risking so much for us! --Val

Wowza! You're so right - that is a LOT of water indeed. Here's hoping for a couple of dry days for you.

Today was dry, but high winds with gusts to 60mph! Dried some roads out, but others are still closed.

wow good footage, did you get the nasty winds last night? I was afraid we were going to have trees down in our yard

Considering how far above the river I was, the sound was deafening! We nearly lost our driveway just from runoff from the mountain behind the house!
ravensky23 4 years ago
Scary but beautiful! I love the fury of flowing water like that, but it can be very destructive. We live in an area that's prone to flooding too. :)

We normally don't but March really came in like a lion this year and this is just more of its "roaring"!

Normally this is but a trickle compared to this. A flyfishing/canoeing kind of river! Which is why I was so impressed.

We don't have too many lakes nearby, mostly rivers passing through and wreaking havoc!
