  • They used to play something like this at the San Jose Tech Museum IMAX, as well as a short 3 minute IMAX computer generated flyover of the Silicon Valley. Then, I went back last year to watch Hubble, and they didn't do ANY of it! They just played a couple of lengthy previews and then started the movie. I felt just slightly gypped...

  • Wichita,Kansas has the WORLDS BIGGEST IMAX and i live there. But there do not show the IMAX presentayion they show a rocket taking off.

  • can't wait to watch PUSS IN BOOTS, MI4 IN IMAX

  • it's taken from kirby year 5.

  • i remember first seeing this on a class field trip in 2nd grade... we saw Treasure Planet... it was the most amazing experience of my life

  • The opening part with the loud boom scares me. It's like when the IMAX thing first starts!

  • The UK version is so, so much better!

  • @xxtimetimexx But its Canadian and this is the Canadian version...soo.....

  • @2pacisthegreatest So what? Doesn't change a thing, least not the validity of my comment.

  • This is one of the things that make me proud to be Canadian :)

    Imax is amazing technology

There are even more ridiculously epic fact on the wikipedia page

    like the bulb is 15kW

  • I couldn't help watching this again now plugged to a big sound system just to listen the part "HERE…" 2:44 … and woah, I support when the guy next to the camera says "ʞ ɔ n ɟ".

  • Getting a little into the technical details… does anyone knows how much SPL the whole thing can handle? Because to fill such large place with low frequencies must be though some divine subwoofers…

  • Does anybody know the song?!

  • where is this?? =)

  • Yeah...because Watts = quality...

  • Holy crap, the projector is 1 TON???

  • IMAX will never be defeated.

  • imax 4ever

  • wallygator123

  • damn Canadians!

  • They they still use this???

  • i memba this presentaion lmaoo !!

  • Of course it's better than Blu-Ray!

  • canada FTW

  • Man, I like the old Imax intro better. I used to go to the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) In Orlando, Fl And there IMAX Teater was amazing! Though, I haven't been there since 2003. So i'm guessing they finally changed it. To me, the old one was more epic.

  • as far as I know this pre-show is a Canadian IMAX theatre only operation, and only at the FP/Cineplex theatres. It is not running anywhere else in the world. There are variations of it, but nothing else.

  • @imaxguy you are correct, in fact the ONLY theater that runs this pre show anymore is Scotiabank theater in Chinook Center, Calgary Canada.

  • @JayPattersonTV wrong my friend, the IMAX theatres in Vancouver show this pre-show as well...the Omnimax screen in Science World has its own pre-show regarding the tech as well.

  • @jbuck7777 you are wrong, this specific pre-show. This was one of the first presentations of its kind and is the only older one running, yes there are others but this one is unique.

  • @JayPattersonTV Hmm, considering I went an saw a movie in IMAX about 2 weeks ago, and watched this exact intro....I also saw it when I saw Avatar.

  • @jbuck7777 Its a different intro, I was living in Vancouver for 8 years! I know! Know I live in Calgary. I went to a show last night. There different!

  • @JayPattersonTV Whatever buddy, I know what I watched recently. It may be different in Cowtown. Who knows. Whatever the case, I'm sure we can both agree that IMAX is a fantastic way to watch movies.

  • @jbuck7777 fuck you I thought I blocked you!

  • @JayPattersonTV Hahaha, you blocked me? Fuckin lame pussy, can't stand to be wrong :P

  • @jbuck7777 hehe, no; I am right, I just don't wanna listen to your bullshit anymore. Haha. Im so tired of people thinking there right. LOL, WHEN THERE NOT! LOL

  • @JayPattersonTV I didn't realize youtube let ppl swear...so fuck yeah +1 for your comment ;).

  • @JayPattersonTV cinemark pgh mills uses it.

  • FP/Cineplex have changed up the pre-show for different films at different times. They used a different style for Beauty and the Beast a few years ago. They also did a secondary type of opening to change it up a bit.

  • imax your the best.... too good man the presentation.. if from here is so thrilling what will be in the theatre...

  • this doesnt compare to watching inr eal life..

  • @Morgleberries Yea... in real life the Nazgul, Sauron, Darth Sidious and his bitch Darth Vader look so much more... real...

  • they know how to impress!!!

  • My IMAX uses the same type of narration but it has no light show and does not use the same music plus it dose not mention was made from Canada!!

  • @justin6061 What is that music

  • jsut saw it soo awesome :D love chester

  • imax is the best.. can't defeat it.....

  • Does anyone know if this intro is shown at the IMAX in Birmingham, UK

  • this pre-show is still in use with FP/Cineplex at all their Canadian IMAX theatres.

  • @imaxguy i saw Christmas Carol at Colossus Langley and they hada different one lol

  • I loved it when they did the 'Sub-bass is located... HERE!' when I went to the Imax in Waterloo, London - a huge screen.

You literally feel the bass when they say it.

  • For those in the San Francisco Bay Area, do NOT get sucked in by the claim that the Emery Bay 16 in Emeryville has IMAX. It's a pale shadow, just a regular screen slightly taller, a small fraction of the size of true IMAX and not nearly as good sound, or seating. Go to the Metreon in San Francisco or you're just being ripped off.

  • AVATAR in in IMAX 3D WAS AMAZING!!!!

  • INDEED BRO

  • it was fantastic!! that was a true 3D imax experience!!

  • do they still use this?

  • Best movie experience ever. West edmonton mall IMAX, with this intro, and haunted castle 3D! I MISS THAT!

  • the song was privately recorded for Famous Players (now Cineplex) it isn't available anywhere.

  • niiiiiiiice

  • graymccarty1. Almost right, it was an Aussie that developed the rolling loop system, it was 2 Canadians and an American that developed IMAX and made the film system the way it is today.

  • SUCH an amazing song - LOVE it

  • oh man.. I went to go see the Space Shuttle take off and it showed this .. omg when the subwoofer part came, i thought a massive earthquake was happening !

  • ....Imagine Imax and THX....That would be really intense...

  • IMAX standards far surpass THX. IMAX theaters are designed to be the BEST theaters EVER, untill digimax at least...

  • what movie did you go to see?

  • that is brilliant imagine having that in your front room. it would be fantastic

  • Nice....appreciate it//

  • the subwoofers are made by Sonics, a company once owned and operated by IMAX Corporation. Listen to the video, there are 40 speakers in 6 locations around the theatre. The sub is composed of 6 speakers (if I remember correctly). I only did a changeout once on them.

  • they must have a massive array of subwoofers!

  • Is IMAX better than Blu-ray

  • hell yer, i love going to the imax, it the ultimate movie experiance

  • @stevemrdoch15, Oh yes, by faaaar. Imax is the ultimate experience.

  • @stevemrdoch15 yes.

  • @stevemrdoch15 yess

  • @stevemrdoch15 yes the picture IMAX projects is ALOT higher resolution than blu ray

  • @stevemrdoch15 It is, but the only downfall is that there is no other way to implement IMAX.

  • @stevemrdoch15 , 15/70 film is no match for blu-ray. That projector costs an million dollars.

  • It depends on the theater. Ours is 3D and 2D. :-)

  • I like that bass part my macBook was shaking when it said " heeeeeeeerrrreee" !!!

  • @jessebouldin Same thing dude!, I just hate the mic is overexposed to the sound and it produces noise… other mic, It would has to explode your ears… love this stuff… Please someone better quality!!!

  • 2:45

Is that a Fi BTL 18" or Cerwin Vega? That's gotta be intense bass! And it's not called a "sub-bass". It's called a subwoofer, even though sub-bass sounds correct, it's actually subwoofer. I want an IMAX subwoofer!

  • it depends where u go, the one in london i think is made by bose, im not sure though. btw its called a sub bass cause it of the enclosure its in, all sub-bass systems have subwoofers in them =]

  • A sub-bass system is a subwoofer with a certain type of enclosure? I think that they are in a type of enclosure that it very large, but I didn't know they were called sub-basses. As far as I know, a subwoofer is a speaker with the box, a subwoofer driver is just the speaker with no box, and a sub-bass is a subwoofer with a special type of box. Is that what you are trying to say?

  • yer

  • Yer = yes?

  • yes

  • Alrighty then! LOL

  • your close... but it does not matter where the subwoofer is.. its still a subwoofer

  • True dat!

  • Is this preshow only in certain places, because when i went to see The Dark Knight at the seattle IMAX they didn't show this, it was a womans voice and no laser show

  • shame man u have to find one what does

  • The Dark Knight is showing at the Imax Dome in Tampa Florida starting August 29th. In my opinion, the only thing that beats regular Imax movies is an Imax Dome.

  • Just saw The Dark Knight in IMAX yesterday, amazing! But I wish there were more IMAX scenes.

  • i saw it last night but you have to admit, the parts that were....OMG words cant describe.

  • WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! CAN'T WAIT! :-D

  • DARK KNIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT !!!

Can't wait for the film on IMAX...hope they have alot of shots in IMAX...Nolan FTW !!!!

  • the dark knight baby.

  • I bought my tickets to see The Dark Knight on the IMAX screen this weekend!

  • IMAX was developed by 2 Canadians and 1 American in 1968/9. The first IMAX theatre was a temporary one installed in Osaka Japan for the Expo there and featured a short 7-8 minute feature. The very first permanent IMAX theatre was installed at Ontario Place in Toronto Canada and remains there to this day. The majority of IMAX is still Canadian owned, although it is run by 2 Americans. It is actually Australian technology that Canadians modified and made practical for the large format film.

  • Two weeks until I see The Dark Knight at Silver Gloucester On the Imax.

    On July 22.

  • small stuff guys

    i didnt think so

    you think imax is canadian

imax is outside the virginia aquarim

where i was with the kings grant class

  • hte imax theater is so laud

    i can feel a racecar

    racing to the finish line

  • that spring i want to imax with my class

to see a move bout dinosuars

    narrated by michael douglas

  • IMAX IS CANADIAN WHOOO

  • The first digital IMAX theatres are not set to go into the ground until this summer. The first ones are due to go into the Washington and Pittsburgh areas (close to IMAX home - Toronto - in case there's problems). The first ones are to be comparable to SR and MPX projection units.

  • The song is (except the first 4 bars of O' Canada) copyrighted by now CinePlex, although it was Famous Players that put the actual show together. The song is NOT available anywhere. I would be extremely cautious if you decide to download it. If Cineplex finds out that you have it, I hope you have a real good lawyer!

  • Thanks for that warning dude:P

That's why the presentation is so amazing and enjoyable:) The music totally fits the show and that's why I like it.

  • Do you know who first recorded it? It's a fantastic song - very powerful with great riffs.

  • Does anyone know the name of that song that they played in that show?

By the way, the show no longer looks the same, now they use they use the transparency of that screen to put light through it so that ou can see the speakers behind it, which is really fancy and coolxD

  • Light tunnel your looking for is under 'birthday eye candy' on this site.

  • @imaxguy Awesome, I've actually been looking for it!

  • Slit screen opening (light tunnel) Ontario Science Centre still uses this type of opening on their films. Haven't seen it in use anymore.

  • Does anyone remember when they used to show an intro where it looked like you were flying through some sort of light tunnel...that was an insane intro!

  • I've only been in an imax theatre once but it was amazing. They showed an eagle flying over mountains. It really does make you feel like your flying too since the screen is so big. Planet Earth would be amazing to watch in Imax

  • It used to say 'Famous Players' across the top and the opening voice said 'Welcome to the Imax theatre at XXX (whichever theatre it was assigned to, ie. Colossus, SilverCity), but Cineplex had that taken out. I used to be the Asst. CP at Colossus when this pre-show was running. Nothing else exists like it. There have been variations of it used at FP before Cineplex took it over.

  • Yes, I remember it saying Paramount. It would sound stupid saying "SCOTIABANK".

I hope Chinook has it running when I go see Shine A Light sometime this week.

  • Ours in Dulles, VA is different than that one... same idea... just a different set up.

  • I Like the way you say poor quality but is the best on youtube by far greate video!

  • wat is the song that they use because my cousin and i are making a movie and we r projecting it on a wall. so we need an awsome intro, and with my epson HD projector and my surround sound this soung would sound awsome. (:D

  • *song*

  • unfourtinaly the song is composed exclusively to cineplex entertainment

  • It's the multi-channel mastering of a good system pull the intro right together. If you or your cousin have some mastering equipment for multichannel tracks-you know what to use ;).

  • ive been to IMAX and it to truly amazing! almost sprained my neck though...got the front seats =(

  • lol

  • Is it sad that I want to go see IMAX just for the intro?

  • nah, i went to see I am Legend and when it was done all i wanted to see again was the light show!!damn, that was insane suround sound!its not just you:)

  • No, I did that for a second helping of HP5 in IMAX. It broke though :-(. Silly chinook.

  • Not at all - I go to IMAX sometimes just to see this intro. It's actually way better in theatres than in this film - there's lasers all over the place

  • today im going to watch I am Legend in IMAX, i cant wait....!!!

  • Pretty cool, I just started as an Imax Projectionist, and the laser show is broken where I work...

  • so u work there cause if u do i have a question does imax use digital projection

  • IMAX is developing Digital Projection. At our theatre we use the SR Projectors, which run side by side, unlike the GT, which is just one projector.

  • so its just film

  • Yeah, 70mm film. Development of a Digital System for IMAX is going to take a bit, because they don't want to lose the quality of the film. Digital Projection has come a long way, just not far enough...yet.

  • so does that imax presantation come with the film or did it just come with the projector

  • It's a laser show that's built with every IMAX Auditorium. It's a mix of a Cyberlight, some Technobeams, haze, and a laser. It's preprogrammed by IMAX.

  • nice

  • i saw this at the imax at Square One in toronto ontario but didnt record it

  • It may be Canadian now, but it was invented by an Australian. Funny...they don't seem to mention that fact.

  • 2 Canadians and an Australian, buddy

  • FUCK I LOVE IT WEN It SAYS ENJOY THE RIDE!!!!

  • did not

  • i guarentee that the american version dosent mention that its canadian technology

  • it's a Canadian technology, GO CANADA!~

  • That is awesome compared to the British one. :P

  • ironic the biggest IMAX Cinema is in the UK...

  • do they show this in the states ?

  • No they do not This show is exclusive to the Cineplex entertainment Imax theatres in Canada.. Theatres in the states may have there own kind of pre show or use a Imax produced one or just start the show without a preshow

  • ive been to several imax theaters and the only one i saw this was in Toronto at Square One IMAX Screen

  • Question: If "an IMAX 40-minate movie rolled out from end-to-end would reach the hight of a super-sonic jet", then how the living hell do they roll up all that film into one tiny space? WTF!?

  • This one was in toronto just before spiderman 3 but it's the same each time before an Imax film. Happy to see, so much people enjoying this !!! In France, no Imax theater, sigh...

  • When i first saw this... when i saw the new harry potter film... everyone cheered when they said it was Canadian... it was wicked.

  • where was this ???

  • *GASP* The technology is CANADIAN?! lol that's a fact I learned watching this.

IMAX is the BEST!!! Rock on!

  • LOL WHATS THE START MUSIC ALL ABOUT!

  • IMAX kicks ass!

  • I love the IMAX theatres and I love their light show in the beginning (this one)...is this the Colisseum in Mississauga??? Saw 300 and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory there...awesome stuff!

  • THIS IS HOTTT LOVE THAT IMAX
