@RavEorDiE8160 Yes it is. CST/10 Which is a Custom Sport Truck. Factory Tach, p/s, p/b, a/c.. It had about everything you could get back then. Sadly it didn't have the Disc brakes or the tilt wheel. But does have the 12 bolt limited slip posi with 3:73s
Tip on the carb. If you have a vacume gauge set it to its highest point if you don't then turn both screws all the way in and back them out about a turn and a half as a starting point
@mustin69 Yeah, I've rebuilt quite a few and use the vaccum gauge, what had happend to this one is it had set a while and was gummed up, I just threw it on there at the last minute and hoped for the best. lol.
I was wondering who made the headers for a 307 olds and how much they were? If u check out the vid of my car I would like to add some headers to it. Your engine sounds like music.
@Rampersad454 Thanks, you should see it now! and hear it! lol. Check out my newer videos of it and then look at my background beause thats what it looks like now and I've got a pete jackson gear drive in it too.. Do you mean a 307 olds enight or what?
@TheNebraskan Thanks, be sure to check out my newer videos of it, and my backfround on my channel because thats what the engine looks like now! Oh and in my newest video it was open headers with the big cam and you couldn't hear my gear drive. lol.
Chevypower, I see you added me as a friend. Not sure where ya found me but hello! Also, I would be worried about the longetivity if that cam if I were you! Yes Ive seen the updated video, but flat tappet cams need to be broken in @ 2000 rpm for 20 mins immediately after the first fire! They will wear lobes flat in a heartbeat if you dont! But anyway, nice truck looks like your getting off to a good start! Ill try to get updated vids of my new engine. 383 w/ aluminum AFRS heads.
I was going thru some comments on a video and seen one of yours and then seen ya truck and invited you. lol. No worries about the Cam, the truck was run the break in time and that was as far as I got with it that night, this video is the next day, hence the nearly dead battery because it was an old one that didn't hold a good charge, it was run the break in time though. I've got it all done, cleaned and painted now. I'll put up a picture on my background so you can see it.
@RcSaabChevy 305 heads are whats on my 307, they're the 1.85 valves with 64CC chambers which makes a higher compression ratio in the 307, the best ones you could find would be a set of 58cc HO 305 heads, those will really give you some good power! But my advice is a good set of heads like I just talked about and a good intake with a good 4BBL carb and you'll feel a power difference, but to do like mine, you need all I just listed with a nice cam roller rockers, updated HEI Dist.
Also be sure to take it easy on it for a while once you put a better set of heads on it, because the engine was built and run with a 2BBL and heads with chambers, I think they was 72cc maybe 76 I forget, but stock the compression ratio was 8.5:1 If you go with 64cc heads with stock stroke and bore will give you right at 10:1 and with 58cc heads you'd be real close to a 10.5:1 compression ratio. Look up "1970 chevy built 307" You will hear a power difference then when I took a video of it stock.
Believe me, it was a lot louder in person...lol. Check out my other one. "!970 Chevy truck built 307" Its got a lot of power and you do know that a 307 is kind of a stroker motor right? Its got the exact same crank as the 327 and has the bore of the 283... Very powerful engine, send me a message and I'll send you some up dated pictures of it.
if you go to my channel there is a Link to my website make a page for FREE Load some of your videos and Photos and let others find you from there i have 2 websites
Now I remember that some small block Chevy rebuild book said that. It's amazing where so called "information" comes from. Whoever wrote that book probably saw a 307 with bores worn from no air filter or incorrectly set up rings and said hey 307's have too soft a cast iron mix without enough nickle.
Yeah, that was probably it! I forget what repair book we've got but it tells you in there about the firing order and it has it going the wrong way..lol.
@Nivicoman Not that I've seen, I've built this one and been running it over a year now and haven't noticed any diffirence so far. I know quite a few guys who have had 307s and never heard anything, there is an a guy here in my Town who has a '73 Chevy truck and has had it since new and its got a 307 in it and he has never had anything major done to it, just starters and stuff, nothing else, he drives it about everyday, so I'd say thats a myth.
@Nivicoman 307 chevy blocks that were cast w/ a 010-010 under the timing cover are said to have a higher nickel content in the cylinders. Remember this though. With its flat-top pistons, short stroke, and 76cc heads...its highly unlikely they made even 8:1 compression in stock form. Tiny cams, and worst heads ever to grace a SBC. (185 castings) Bottom line: even a 350 would be a dog under those circumstances.
I had a Quadrajet on my 307. Good power and sharp throttle response but the throttle body was worn around the throttle shafts so it wouldn't idle good and the air leaks made it hard to start on cold mornings. Changed back to the little two barrel for reliability. Since it was otherwise stock it was hard to get any big gains in power simply from a carb/manifold change. Maybe 30 or 40 horsepower teamed with stock Ram's Horn maniflods and no-name glasspacks. I was 17 & inexperienced. Now 44 & wiser
Check out my newer video, 1970 chevy truck built 307... I've done more work since then but at that time I have big valve heads on it, a .470 lift cam, roller rockers, Edelbrock Performer intake and a 500CFM Edelbrock carb and headers, I've now cleaned it and pianted it, have a Gear drive in it and no more clutch fan! I personally love a 307, its built out of two great engnines, its basically a 283 with the 327 crank it, because its got the bore of the 283 with the exact same crank as the 327.
If you can get them right and find a good one, a Quadra jet is a really good carb! But finding someone who is good with them thats another thing..lol. The one that was originally on my truck it would barely start with it, I got one off a buddy and its pretty good but needs some new seals it leaks a little gas around some o-rings.
Haha, thanks, I've moved it not long ago, I've put it right before the fuel pump and run metal line to the carb... Also got rid of the clutch fan, and just installed a Pete Jackson gear drive and put a Chrome timing case cover on it too.
That thing sounds pretty good! I bought a 307 that im building up wih a new cam, '416' 305 heads, holley carb and possibly having it bored over if a light hone wont take off the surface rust in the cylinder walls. Anyways, i was wondering what type of intake that was. I think i was in one of these comments it was a weiand. Is it a high rise?
Yes, that was a Weiand highrise, but it was on the truck for about three days and I took it off, because I bought a good Edelbrock to put on it and the guy wanted to sell the Edelbrock Performer intake with it, so I just took off that intake and just sold it recently actually.. good luck with your 307 build! Get some videos of it! not many of them left anymore.
Thanks ill definatley have to get some videos up when its finished...looking at possibly getting a 1968 nova to drop it in, which would be pretty sweet. I actually just bought an old school edelbrock streetmaster intake for torque and fuel economy, which i figured should work pretty well with a 307 and high compression '416' heads
No, but I run across a killer deal, a three month old 500 Edelbrock, with a high rise Edelbrock intake, so I took the Weiand off and just got thru putting this stuff on it...works PERFECTLY!
Yeah, maybe tonight or tomorrow, cause I took a video the other day when I had the borrowed Edelbrock and the Weiand intake still on it...so it isn't a 100% up to date video..but still..lol.
No, not getting a stroker just yet, sometime I'm gonna buy a 350 block and have it bored .30 over. Then sometime buy a 400 crank thats already been turned down to fit in a 350 block. I can buy them online. but then once I get that every bit of the top end of my 307 (Cam too) will fit onto the 350 block..so I can buy good parts for this engine and then re-use them later on for the stroker. It'll probably be a few years but I'll get me a 383 in that truck, just buying my parts a little at a time.
Your welcome, that is basically what this one is now, its a 307 with 350 heads, Weland intake, Holley Carb, Howard cam...Best part is I can buy good parts for this and then reuse them on the 383 I'm building sometimes...the whole top half and even the cam will be put on it.
I'm getting it back tomorrow evening, I'll have it on there and probabyl driving down the road, if all goes to plan I'm gonna have a in truck driving video, then a passing by video. plus a walk around it while its running too.
Thanks, hopefully my carb will be back this evening and it'll be runnng perfect then...Maybe I'll go for a spin and get my buddy to take another video.
