What an incredible song. Glen Payne is greatly missed. The way he could weave his way into a song and make it his own. In my opinion there's just been a handful of singers who could do this the way he could. His version of this song is my favorite.
I was raised in a Southern Gospel family and no song has ever touched my heart and soul the way this one has. I thank God dearly for giving someone the ability and talent to assemble this masterpiece of music!! And The Cathedrals were to me one of the greatest to ever grace the gospel charts!! Music like this is rarely heard today but I'm glad it can still be found!
if i had to choose one lead singer of all the great ones it would be Glen Payne. he could sing with such intensity without harming the musical integrity of the song. plus i love that signature "hop" of his
I had not heard this early Cathedral group before. Guy does it very well, true. But I have to confess that so far the best rendition I have heard is by Signature Sound with Doug and Ryan. Signature Sound should have lassoed Ryan and not let him go! Thanks for this video.
You can feel the love that George and Glenn have for each other. They spent many, many years together. Both are in Heaven rejoicing together with Jesus. But, while we are on God's earth,we have a hope of "Then Came the Morning" no matter what we are faced with as God's Children in this 'old world. He knows what's going on and He is still in control..............Gwen Weaver
It just does not get any better than this!!!...There is NO WAY anyone can tell me there is NO God!!!..He is still alive on the throne!!..He has concoured Death, Hell and the Grave!!..Praise God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just imangine the singing in heaven with all of these singers that God gave so much talent to. I hope My mansion is near so I can hear them sing again
After listening again to this version, I am impressed with the attention they obviously paid to interpreting the song, to dynamics, and vocal blend. Some of the turns and twists in the dynamics are almost gut wrenching....very impressive. And some people say all southern gospel is just always loud.
the Very best in southern gospel, watching Glenn and George work together and off each other makes me smile thinking of all the years and songs they shared. Wonderful men of God still blessing people. I agree with rev comment. This going out ans singing the gospel, that is exactly what southern gospel is.
This quartet gave the world something very precious... the Word of God in song like it was supposed to be sang, ...ANNOINTED!! I'm so thankful for people who obey God and let Him use their talents to His glory so that we as christians can be encouraged and that a world of sinners can be saved. I can hardly wait to get to heaven to see Jesus and the Cathederal Quartet!
i don't know what the gentleman's name is who sings this but i have the best recording of this song by him on a cassette tape i picked up at a yard sale. its better than any of these posts on youtube. HONESTLY!
WOW. I have the studio version of this with Kirk Talley singing tenor, but it is out-shined by this live version. Danny is amazing and so spirit filled in his singing.
Yep, you sure can tell Danny is singing about what he truly believes. And that what makes him so great. Not only his great voice and singing ability, but the fact the he loves what he sings.
@BnCSGMusic about 8 years ago, i had the opportunity to attend a week long "boot camp" style school of gospel music at which Danny Funderburk was one of the teachers. he is absolutely a class act all the way, very gracious and humble. his heart is so tender and sold out to what he believes. he does love the music, and the Lord with all his heart
:'( i miss them so much...southern gospel lost a real great group of men when the broke up...but i mean i guess you cant say there gone i mean it's God loving people like you put there videos on here...thanks oaks
Yeah, that would be right. I wasn't thinking. Something Special was '82 I think, that had this song on it. This is by far the best version I've ever heard anyone do of this song. Glenn singing from the heart and Danny skying really send it over the top. There's also something very pleasing about just bass and piano.
The fact that the crowd stayed in their seats is unbelievable. The end of this song would be a time to get up....standing ovation worthy for sure.

Danny F. is absolutely the stuff on this one. Glenn sounds awesome hitting the
2nd tenor note on the ending. I wish he had done that more often. Scott and Mark could hit the high notes, but not with Glenn's cut.
RedCeltYank1 3 years ago 7
You are absolutely correct....Glen had that edge or "cut" that Scott doesn't have....Mark came close, but nobody can touch Glen.
