Legend has it that, at this point in time, Bruce wasn't feeling very enthusiastic about being in Maiden (he'd go solo soon after) and wasn't taking that session as seriously as he is normally known to. I actually question whether he even believed this recording would see the light of day. He might've just thought that it would be erased or shelved and forgotten.
STILL, anyone who tries to say Bruce doesn't know blues, or can't do it - Listen to 'Ballad of Mutt', one of his solo songs.
I agree totally... i dont know if its just cause im a huge zeppelin fan and they are my favorite band... but i feel like all zeppelin songs were made to be song by robert plant and no one else.... although i do think some of the covers ive heard are a great tribute
First time i didnt enjoy Bruce. He sound tired in there. I own this CD (and thw whole Eddie archives chest) In the booklet it says that this was recorded in 1990 for the B side of the single bring your daughter to the slaughter.
I would like to hear him sing it now cause Bruce just dont stop to get better over time.
haha hate to break it to you but your terribly wrong zepplin probobly had some or little influence on maiden you would have been much more accurate by saying if it wernt for black sabbath there wouldnt be maiden
well first of all they obviously influenced maiden if their covering one of their songs, but secondly zeppelin and sabbath are the pioneers of metal so i agree that it would be more accurate to say that with sabbath but zeppelin had alot too. btw i still like iron maiden alot too im just saying zeppelin made it it's their song so their version should be better
@FreakBeast yes, but in the documentary "The Early Days" they talk about the actual first line-up, five years before the first record. Steve Harris is the only one who's in the band since 1975
Zep is too damn good to top. Bruce is no Plant, and isn't as flexible voice-wise. But he's still got a damn impressive voice, and this is still a great cover of an incredible song.
You guys who think this version is better are insane haha. Robert Plant and Bruce Dickinson happen to be two of my favorite singers, and Zepp and Maiden are two of my favorite bands, but this versions is nothing compared to the Zeppelin version. Bruce just deos not sound right singing this type of song, where this is Plants bread and Butter. I mean, its like Plant trying to sing Hallowed Be Thy Name, not gonna go so well. And the solo cannot touch the original.
Pretty good. I think that Bruce is truly godlike when he's singing his own material but IMO he's generally disappointing when he's covering other peoples stuff. I think Plant did this best first time out, but as far as covers go I reckon Chris Cornell owns Bruce on this song.
i want this album a lot the cover is funny

three or four years earlier Bruce would have hit the notes on "nervous breakdown" and "insane" without any trouble

The singing is embarrassingly bad. Not Bruce Dickensons style at all.
Bruce just doesn't know the blues at all and to play Zepplin effectively you have to know blues.
intervalkid 1 year ago
@intervalkid I wouldn't say it's "embarrassingly bad", but i have to agree with the second statement.

I know you yearn to hear my kickass Plant impression but I have no access to a camera or recording equipment of any sort.
Bruce Dickinson sings Maiden like no one else can but he cannot do what Robert Plant does.
I do have a video of me recording a blues vocal retake. You can watch that if you want.

a cover isn't a COPY, it's a TRIBUTE.
Iron Maiden can't play like Zeppelin... and Zeppelin can't play like Iron Maiden... because they're both very original and different bands
good version :D

Maiden needs to play a Sabbath song... something like Johnny Blade
DoomMetalSludge 2 years ago
The problem is, Dickinson's voice is too operatic and epic, while this song requires more... sexy

Iron Maiden is amazing, the Zep's are amazing too. But definitely some songs are just made to be played or sing by one guy only.

Bruce Dickinson is the best singer ever.
That's a fact too.
But his voice just doesn't fit with this song I think
