Abs, Alexandre Vivacqua

  • Absolutely mesmerizing. One of Bach's thorniest pieces taking on unimagined dimensions. The Universe is certainly greater than we can ever know, and here we learn that there is always so much more to learn....Bach by Pletnev; almost no need for the Hadron Collider. Extraordinary!

  • This movement really lends itself to a Romantic interpretation. Even Gould plays this with a lot of pedal.

  • information learned he played Bluethner grand!!beautifull for this piece of Bach and him

  • Quite extraordinary!! He goes beyond mere "interpretation" of the work: like the greatest of performing artists, he uses the notes on the page as a beginning, not an end in and of themselves. He takes the composition and transforms it into his own creation - fusing his artistry with that of the composer and producing something new and beautiful. More beautiful than the composition played "the way the composer intended"? I for one do not care: art is both eternal, and ever-changing.

  • @HolyMotherofGrid I think that is a gross overstatement and insult to all the composers alive or dead, the pianists are mere technicians and morror the composers intentions never overtake them

  • it was not a steinway he played then ?

  • VERY ROMANTIC & Brilliant ...as usual... version ! Mr. Pletnev 's 2CD set Scarlatti Sonatas by Virgin Classics is an Event of the century..I can not stop listening ..so Revolutionary, Dimensional & Colorful !!! GENIUS !

  • I like this-Pletnev is the most sensual performance I`ve heard of this movement- -picking away at phrases in a way i've never heard before,he also never loses sight of the bigger picture.

    Thanks!

  • extraordinary, almost frightening.

  • Russian pianists like whom exactly? And does that mean that you are the one who "understands" Bach?

  • I didn't ask for your opinion about my question, you're just making a huge unfounded generalization about "Russian" pianists, fine - can you explain it? It doesn't look like it.

  • Je retire mon avis,-soit!

    Cela n'a pas d'importance.

  • I totally agree with scottbos68's insightful analysis.

  • Simply great!

I think that much more people should play Bach like this!

  • Argerich, in her way, certainly. But doesn't give solo recitals anymore. Alex Lubimov. And, upcoming: Alex Tharaud & Yevgeny Sudbin. Although few match the character, daring, and occasional baffling nature of Pletnev.

  • it's my pleasure to listen to his fantastic music.

  • Enchanting...-

    grateful for your posting indeed.

  • Yep, Pletnev is among the greatest left. There are not so many. Maybe a half dozen?

  • Among living pianists? Few that I know. Sokolov for sure, and I would urge you to listen to Kemal Gekic (I have uploaded two recordings). Other pianists who recently passed away include Natan Brand and Joseph Villa and they both would be included with Pletnev et al.

  • I checked Kemal Gekic, he is very unique. THX for introducing him. I'll check Natan Brand and Joseph Villa, never heard of them. I think Andsnes is there in the list without a doubt.

  • @AntonioDGO I'm sorry to say this but Nobody compares with pletnev.

  • I cant stand a player without a sense of timing but he certainly has it, and has his own ideas about how to play things different than anyone else, there is always a suprise there and his technique is so effortless

  • i always found Pletnev so interesting, his interpretations are always somehow his own, he doesnt play everything as it is written, he has the perfect example of give and take from the tempos, sometimes behind the beat but then playing faster to make it equal out rhythmically, creating suspense and drama.

  • very beautiful..
