hello all fans,I always liked these new versions, capitol never put she loves you on the something new LP,with hold you hand, know one ever explained why, they should have done the I want to hold you hand backing track over even though it may have saved some expense,to match the she loves you version, any way it just my opinion,,,,
I find it incredible that EMI "lost" the stereo master tapes to "She Loves You" (and the b-side "I'll Get You") of all songs. Many of the early Beatles stereo recordings aren't up to that much, apart from arguing the case that the songs sound fantastic in mono. But credit to jacksonbilder - this may be a fake, but it's the truest representation of a stereo version of "She Loves You" I've ever heard.
Whether or not this version is true stereo or not,Its the loudest clearest most electric version I ever heard..Listening to this version loud, its hard to believe it was recorded in 1963.Its like almost heavy metal electric.Thanx for posting.
Bottom line an REAL Beatle fan knows. The only way we will get a TRUE stereo version is to get the DOc and Marti McFly and go back to 1962 and steal the 2 track master before it's destroyed
All this whiz bang technological wizardry, but not one in a hundred million cyberfreaks has a clue about how to COMPOSE a song remotely as good as "She Loves You"
@xboostedbirdx Nope. It was EMI policy in 1962/63 to record over the twin-track recordings when the mono mix was made so EMI could save money. The only 2-track recordings that were wiped were Love Me Do (all versions), PS I Love You, She Loves You, and I'll Get You. Sometime after that, the policy was reversed and every 2-track, 4-track, and 8-track tape was never recorded over unless they were rehearsal takes or mixes that were deemed no good by the band.
i have reason to believe this track could be mixed into true stereo from original session tapes. remember, it was an edit of at least three takes [not that i take mark lewishon's book as bible]. only the single master of SHE LOVES YOU was lost, not the session tapes. the PLEASE PLEASE ME tracks were mixed into true stereo in germany....
abbey road did not have 3 track recorders but did have mono, twin track and 4 track machines. she loves you was done on twin track and from a sub mix to a mono btr recorder at the same time.
This technique of creating "stereo" was normal in those days. There is no true stereo version of "She loves you" existing, all recordings were erased, it's a pity. Sometimes I hope someone would find a hidden demo recording of it.
"She Loves You" is my FAVORITE Beatle song. I don't care what this guy did to combine the two recordings. It is AWESOME!! Thank you for such a RARE version of this song. What do you think George Martin and The Beatles did in the studio while making an album? They did all kinds of mix combinations to come up with the best possible recording to sell to the public. There's nothing fake about it. It's STILL The Beatles. Too bad The Beatles didn't think of making it Stereo. Stereo was available.
You got to give this person credit for ingenuity. Even The Beatles record engineer Geoff Emerick didn't think of this trick of combining to seperate recordings, English and German versons, of this legendary song to create a stereo effect of this song which only exists today as a mono recording.
@calista2010 comparing the two overeachother, it's the same. This is the real beatles. I'm sorry but it's obvious! the person has probably used different amounts of treble and bass on the mono version with about 4 tracks with focus on vocals/guitar etc. It's slightly off time on one of the tracks. This is most obvious when you hear the guitar riff after the first chorus. It's the same recording. Really. It's really true . I'm sorry to burst you're bubble, but It's the beatles.
@calista2010 Actually, I think i've just cracked when you say they don't last as long. this person has used the backing track of Sie Lebt Dich (The german version of she loves you) and the vocals of the original english version. The vocals sounds shorter and a little different because the person has used noise reduction to isolate the vocals of the original song. Therefore, the ends of each syllable are a bit cut-off and the vocals sound a bit butchered and not so loud.
page 86, The Beatles Recording Sessions, The Official Story of the Abbey Road Years:
"For all of his technical skill there was little that Geoff Emerick could do with She Loves You. The original two track tapes had long been destroyed and all that existed was the mono master. He made a 'mock stereo' version merely by slashing all of the top frequencies from the left channel to give a bassy sound and slashing all bass from the right. Together they formed the best stereo that could be made"
@Housemaster (note that the mix was made in late 1966 for their first British 'greatest hits' compilation, A Collection of Beatles Oldies, which had their singles being mixed in stereo for the first time)
In reality, everything is recorded in mono, even today day.The you do is set the recordings on different channels, is everything and create the stereo delay with left or right. I think that happened was that the Beatles took their magnetic bands recorded on three tracks, they were separated and fixed in two channels. In Britain they did not fear the nascent stereo. Remember that they were very conservative but they were at capacity. Help is with giving way to two-channel setting.
Does anyone believe the day will arrive, when a Monophonic recording will have Each and Every Voice and Instrument extracted and seperated, to create a 'TRUE' Stereo Mix ? Oooh and it makes me Wonder.....
@gazzymodo I hope so, Gary, because I want to hear "Each Time" by the Searchers with all their beautiful voices broken in out!!! My life would be complete! :-)
Hi NightCrawler511, EMI is a large company of Electrical and Musical Industries (E.M.I.), they make aerospace stuff too. Parlophone is one of those Musical industries. Columbia was the biggest Musical label in 1962 because of Cliff Richard and The Shadows. In 1963, thanks to George Martin, Parlophone had the number one single for 37 of the 52 weeks (not just Beatles) and they became the biggest musical label out of the E&M Industries. :-)
So, as stated below, the fact that She Loves (and I'll Get You) included so many edit pieces and SI's (superimposition) it necessitated that Martin either destroyed or misplaced the original raw stereo masters after he spent so much time carefully mixing the recordings for mono. Unfortunately, there is not even a record of the number of takes or any other pertinent details. A lost treasure for sure, maybe Indiana Jones will uncover the original master tapes buried under Abbey Road!
You can hear a prominent edit section at 1:24 of the original She Loves You which is also slightly speeded up about a 1/4 step. She Loves You was their first complicated session with multiple overdubs, edit pieces etc. such as the double tracked "yeah yeah yeah" which adds so much robust energy to the famous refrain. Compare to live versions. Anyone notice Georges stealth harmonies on lines like "she almost lost her mi-y-ind" etc.? He also adds the 6th on the last "yeah" on intro and ending.
The fact that She Loves You/I'll Get You was recorded with multiple edits on July 1, 1963 forced Martin to abandon the twin track stereo master and it was probably misplaced or recorded over. Unfortunately, if the raw master exists, it would be in glorious stereo with all the takes, just like most of their other early stuff which thankfully still exists as premixed masters. Someday they might find the master with the title Cilia Black:-)
She Loves you was recorded in 1963 on a 3 track machine in MONO.
It cannot be seperated.Ever. What this person did was take The Instrumental Track from "Sie Leibt Dich" and put on the Mono Vocals from She Loves You on the right channel. It is not real! The instrumental track was recorded in Paris, in early 1964, prior to Beatlemania hitting the USA.
@Bloke1962 'The recording of the song on 1 July 1963 was done on a two-track recording machine. Standard procedure at Abbey Road Studios at the time was to erase the original two-track session tape for singles once they had been "mixed down" to the (usually monaural) master tape used to press records. This was the fate of two Beatles singles (four songs)... "She Loves You"... These tracks only exist as a mono master, although several mock-stereo remixes have been made...'
@Bloke1962 She Loves You was recorded on 2 track. As the story goes, the multi-track was either damaged or stolen so a true stereo could not be created. I doubt that it was recorded in mono only since the album (Please Please Me) and single (From Me To You) were recorded in true wide, twin-track stereo.
@Bloke1962 You're right about how this recording was faked. You can hear that they don't quite sync correctly. The thing that's incorrect is your info on the 3 track machine in mono. She Loves You as well as their very early tracks were recorded on 2 track stereo. Most of the vocals on one side and the instruments on the other. This would make it easier to create the "final" mono mixes. The master tapes for this song were sadly wiped. There are plenty of G Martin interviews available.

@nightcrawler511 You theoretically could. It would just sound horrible and very computerised. It's extremely hard to separate waveforms even with a powerful computer. The sounds are intertwined like a big bowl of spaghetti. Hopefully they'll just release the two track master one day.
In true stereo, the instruments are always on the left channel, and the vocals and guide guitar are on the right. If you faded channels, you would hear "ghost vocals" on the left channel, and on the right you would hear the vocals and guide guitar, plus "ghost intrumentals". I have some experience producing and mixing both live and studio recording, and I used this technique quite a bit, particularly in live recordings in the studio.
Here he's using the German Left channel track with She Loves You, and this doesn't match well, you need to delete the instrumentation of the original.
It's virtually impossible, but with some tricks you can ''apparent'' cut all the instrumental. I'll try it soon.
I've heard of a program that can be used to do that, CEDAR Retouch. It's what they used to isolate or remove instruments for the development of The Beatles: Rock Band. Unfortunately, it's ridiculously expensive.
Not a bad effort, but the timing is a bit off and the vocals get buried in the mix. It's almost impossible to get it right because the English version has numerous very noticeable splices/edits containing segments from different "takes" of the song, and was really quite a hack-job production.
