Theyre not dumb animals by any means when my rottie does somthing she will go all commando on me and crawl across the floor when she knows she's wrong and if she doesnt know she's done wrong i say Ohhhhhhhh and she knows she's then done somthing wrong and tries to sook up to me
Its quiet amusing sometimes to watch them go all commando especially when they try to hide my rottie thinks its half the size of what it actually is. She tries to hide under my bed almost lifting the full thing off the ground by trying to get under it then when she's half way under the bed with only her back end showing she then thinks she's hidden and i cant see her
I do the same thing with my Rott. Whenever she does something rotten, I point to whatever she's done & ask "What did you do?" She then looks down, all guilty and when I ask her a 2nd time, she kisses me. It's too cute. And she has a docked tail & I think it looks great. It might have hurt (I don't know for certain - the breeder had it done by his vet when they were days old) but I think Rotts suit it. Tails just don't look right on some dogs. Lambaste me but that's my opinion.
#fifidaniels: no it doesn't hurt at all, since they simple tie the baby dog(1-2 weeks old or so)'s tail and after about 1 month the tail would naturally docked out. It's nothing scary as people tend to think.
Docking rotties tails started when they were used on farms and such back in germany so their tails would not get caught in a cart, Not for looks. Mine has her tail docked and most vets do a simple surgery to remove it. If done at an exremely early age I've been told they have very little feeling in the tail so it doesnt hurt them.
Yes, I mean really if you aren't going to use your dog for carting there is no major reason for it. I will be carting with mine when she is a few months older. Everyone will tell you something different, some rotties have problems with tails and others dont. My best friends 3 year old rottie just got hers taken off because she would hit it on stuff when she wagged it until it would bleed so the vet said the best course was to remove it.

But they got docked because having longs tails can cause any dog harm i.e Getting stuck under doors, people stepping on them, large thorns in them etc. I personally dont think there is anything wrong with a dogs tail being docked, it doesnt cause them pain as its done at a young age. I have a rottie with a docked tail & hes perfectly healthy :)
my rott is trained off-leash... last year he became very territorial and began barking at other dogs from the balcony. I am glad to say that his barking days are over pretty quickly lol. Thanks to being a dog trainer.
