I lost many Free Cell games viewing the Q&A videos while searching for a schematic of your switching system. I have the diagram of 3-way switches, but would appreciate a more concrete tutorial. This is an answer to something I have looked for as much as two years. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
I used a computer power cord which was rated at 1,250 watts, a box from Radio Shack, and a 3-way toggle swich to control my 2 speed fume blower from our furnace, it actually looks very good :)
@MrTpengineer I wanted to use something like a rotary switch in a box when I first went to build this. I couldn't find a suitable rotary switch, so I stuck to stuff I could get from any hardware store. (Although, in the case of the last switch--which needed to be a different color--I had to go to eBay for that.)
@uxwbill Yea, i've created my own high-end rotory swiches before, the consisted of copper beads with 2 long strips of copper that came out of them and bent outward, anyway they were soldered to a pcb board and thick copper ground wire was used as the middle shaft that went over them, then I would glue a knob to it, it's kind of complicated but i'll probebly make a video of it anyway since I now have a washer motor :)
Where do you get such a blower fan? I've been searching all over ebay for em, they seem hard to find. Would be nice to have for all sorts of projects such as a whole house fan (with filter).
@redsquirrelftw Don't buy one on eBay, the shipping alone will probably turn a bargain into a money sink. Ask around at any HVAC installers or shops in your area. I promise you they'll have a few. This one was given to me.
The roll of duct tape is mine, and I've paid my own electrical bill at the Roach Palace since I bought it. So I'm not sure why she'd care. And I doubt it was a waste to demonstrate how this works.
I'm not sure what purpose you had in mind, but when you run a typical blower WITHOUT the normal ductwork that the system sees, you rarely can run it higher than "low" without "overamping" the motor. Therefore using one as say, an attic fan, one must be very careful that the motor is not overamping and overheating. This is also true of furnaces/ rooftop units with minimal ductwork or an A/C unit that's iced up
Good point. I've got this flow restriction on it that seems to alleviate the problem. Without one, this motor labors on the lower speeds and pulls a silly amount of current (11 amps!) on the high speed.
With the flow restriction in place, the little motor never gets hot or pulls more than 2-5 amps while running. I'd say that's more in line with what it should be doing, although I haven't pulled it out to see the nameplate and ratings.
(oh **CRAP** - I almost clicked on "block user" - but I guess Youtube thought we needed new channel designs more than we did a little more space betweeen those choices. I don't think it took effect, but if it did, mail me...)
There has been an improvement, but this is still the Roach Palace, and its foundation is dirt. I think that's why it has the musty smell all the time.
I got a really good laugh out of that one! :-)) I think you have to confirm it anyway. (Are you sure you want to block this user?)
My grandfather's house had a dirt foundation, and always had a very distinct smell. I wouldn't call it 'musty', because I didn't mind it. I visited the people who moved in about 3 years after he died and we sold everything, and that smell brought back so many memories.
Right! I don't have one made up yet. At first I had one that I thought was great and then I found that the lighted switch unit takes up too much space in there. That is why those two larger holes on the box are missing.
I have got an idea about how to do it, because it should have one.
How about using a fan and some leaves for Halloween? Or cut a couple of hand shaped streamers out of colored plastic leaf bags, and set it up in your doorway or under a patio chair.
Almost Got It ! Could You E-mail Me A Basic Wiring Diagram I Have All The Parts Including The Red Switch Thanks Man carolinaspecialteez@yahoo.com

It's an interesting suggestion, although this fan would be just as happy to put those kind of things right up onto the roof!
