@gabri3l367 no man, he isn't improvising in a scale, he is improvising over the chords. in 99 procent of the jazz songs,you can't just improvise over one scale, you have to folow the chords of change from a dorian to a mixolidian and stuf like that :)
@fromthenorthwest well dorian tends to be used over minor chords - more specifically min, m6, m6/9, m7, m9, m13, and m(add9). Mixolydian is used over dominant chords like 7, 9, 13, and all 7sus4 types.

Yes it's Benny Goodman's sextet. Recorded Nov. 22, 1939. Christian was one of the first prominent electric guitar soloists.
