    Pete's the Man!

  • @anigbochic It's actually "borrowed" from James Brown's identically named song. :)

  • @CMilliBeats : wow, didn't know that, but their melodies sound so similar...

  • @anigbochic the trumpet beat, it originally was sampled from a song by "Lord Finesse - bad mutha ".. it's a great song..

  • Talib Kweli on THIS???

  • If this song was an animal it would be a Chin-Chilla!

  • @MrHarrison1337 : LOL, couldnt agree more.

  • Beat's classy

  • The most INSANE aspect of Pete's production? His ability to take multiple samples from different records and somehow have them ALL in the same key, like they were from the same record. It goes without sayin' but dude is a genius.

  • James Brown - The Boss is still my fav but pete did it alright

  • what's that effect called at 1:20? it kinda has a backwards sound or something

I don't think he sampled this one,i think he sampled another song and player it backwards just like Pete did.

  • this beat is amazing

  • If you listen to J Dilla's music very carefully you can tell that Pete Rock was his biggest influence.

  • This sounds a bit like Drop by Pharcyde and that was produced by J Dilla... revelations! :O

  • @MrDeltroid he was! Dilla told pete when they finally met "i was trying to be you"

  • The piano and beats here give me wood. 'Nuff said....

  • I bought the first incarnation of this BBE joint back in April of '01. I'll never forget coming home to bump it two times through, and a full summer of drinking and smokin crazy blunts to this joint...such happy memories. Pete Rock, I can say, is one of the key artists that helped paint the landscape to my youth.

  • so tight

  • Forever endeavoured to get your soul searching

That extra little treasure when you find your soul purpose

Since I first heard it, now I observe and word it

A lot of set backs but kept at it, and kept working

    Determined to follow through

Fell into that trap of tomorrow will do

My brain became a hollow tube

Swallowed fumes, few knew I sold small portions

I'm back to rap, release these endorphins

  • cont...

...Amateurs ignoring the kings that came before 'em

Very technical but technically very boring

Rainfall walking, solo missionary enforce men

That kept me stalking these beats

  • at the end ( 4:36 ) , whatz this ??? this sounds nice

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHH.........just fade away to the real hip hop.....

  • I must've kicked a thousand freestyles to this beat over the years. Still as amazing as it was the first time I ever heard it.

  • haha.. thats it boy. damm right man.

  • Nas - Get down :]

  • actually Lord Finesse - Bad Mutha :D

Track 9 On The Second Edition Of "PeteStrumentals".

  • amazing....the loop is so trancy

  • Ha! damm right guy

  • I just found the main sample to this beat. This song samples "Satin Doll" by Dorothy Ashby. It's off her self-titled album "Dorothy Ashby" from 1961 on Argo Records.

  • it almost sounds like theres a JB guitar riff from his ''the boss''

  • kool man , thx

  • @ThaRealHipHop2008 I just went and listened to that song by Dorothy Ashby and it makes Pete that much more Genious.

  • @ThaRealHipHop2008 no problem man! just helping out.

  • @CWroyal88 I just listened to Satin Doll. Pete Rock is a ridiculous genious. What would make him think to use the few seconds of that part of the end of that song to make a masterpiece like this? He has a great ear. That is just amazing

  • @CWroyal88 Love it! Thanks

  • Amazing beat! Pete Rock is to Beats as Einstein is to Physics

  • @vinavichi nice analogy

  • @vinavichi
