  • @deathontheroad666 I'll settle for some mead

  • @Norsekjr Well if you go to Norway or Sweden you get the beer which tastes the most like mead.

  • @MrStakePowered I can just drink some of the mead I have, mead tastes very different from beer

  • @Norsekjr yeah, sure! but as far as I've seen mead is a little hard to get a hold off. might just be me who is a doydoy O.o

  • @MrStakePowered I have four and 3/4 bottles of 0.7 liter

  • @Norsekjr nice, man! how'd you get it ? please tell me (A)

  • @MrStakePowered hehe the bottles I got from buying some mead, you just have to find a real wine/alcohol-shop, but the mead currently in them is home brewed

  • @Norsekjr kk, Norway is too strict so I guess a fake lisence or a big jacket wont work >.<

but I have friends, with more chest hair than I, so no problems!!

  • @MrStakePowered – we have the same word in Russia. Мёд = mjød.

But in everyday life it means honey :)

  • @Romouty You know that the vikings laid the foundation for what's Russia today?

  • @sonyman344 – of course I know that. The first of Russian prince in Novgorod was Rurik. Тhe legendary 9th-century founder of the Rurikid dynasty. We have it in our elementary school system, but I try to see even more wider to both our histories which are often intertwined :)

  • @Romouty The Polish language is the word= MIÓD :D Аналогичные и на норвежском и на польском и на русском языке

  • @deathontheroad666 Why do people on videos about vikings always talk about beer? the norse people had mead, not beer -.-

  • @deathontheroad666 ehm, mead maybe.

  • @deathontheroad666 Don't you mean mead?

  • Viking music!!! The best there is!!!! That and celtic music :)

  • Anyone got any links to any viking/celtic songs that are sung? I haven't been able to find any.

  • @ThisReallySuckz Tyr sings a song called Regin Smidur.

  • @AngryVikingDipper Regin Smiður is just a part of a longer ballad called Sjúrðakvæðini (The Ballads of Siegfried) and tells the story of Siegfried (the dragonslayer).

  • holy...odin! this song is awesum! where is it from? or which band/ sond is this?

  • @lunatic1988

Its from one of the medival total war games

  • ok who made this cool viking song and where can I get a copy?

  • If any of you are curious about the picture. . .

The pictures shows Jarl Sigvaldi swearing an oath on his father's memory to go to Norway and kill or drive away Haakon Jarl.

  • Best Viking song ever :D

  • I love this music! Too bad my mother (from South Dakota) didn't teach me about my Norwegian ancestry, culture and history. It's really fascinating!

  • Any idea what it's called or who it's by??

  • Wow, that's really cool, but I'd like it's longer :(

  • What are some other viking songs like this one? I love that it is a bit faster than the usual viking songs.

  • That's just great.

  • @hrothwulf4 tell me, why do Icelanders hate Norway? Have you forgotten that? If the memory fails then you are no better yourself! HA

  • @hrothwulf4 Ive been to iceland, 2weeks last winter actually. never met a single icelander that dislike Norway so ive no idea where you got that from, pulled it out of ur ass like ur other "facts"?

I did however meet a few icelanders who had quite strong feelings about denmark, since they still have to learn danish at school in iceland, and one who also knew of what denmark did to iceland during the union, which was the same type of shit they did to Norway.

  • Hail my Scandinavian brothers and sisters! :)

  • Ved Odin, flott meldoi!

  • I am Russian, but now I live in Norway (hallo Norge:), and I know how strongly influenced by the culture of Scandinavia to the culture of northern Slavs. Perhaps our music from the medieval times not so warlike and cheerful, but some times it hears quite similar :)

  • @Romouty Oh yeah my Russian friend! If you read Ibn Fadlans eyewitness discription of a great viking chiftains burial, you will learn that this great viking was Russian. You guys got the long cold winters and the right sense of gallowhumor - if you make peace with the Finns you can join the scandinavian brotherhood!Hail from the danish court! From the homeland of Ægir the mighty sea king-may he be more gentle to the Germans :-) Didn't he drown like 12 of them last year?If anything our SEA is WILD!

  • @TheHrothwulf Tror du havet rundt danmark er hardt, så bør du unngå havet i vest-Norge og nord-Norge XD. Danske-havet blir som et badekar i forhold!

  • @Vikingskog MOAHAHAHA! That is the most common misunderstanding of our sea - it looks like a kitten but bites like a serpent. Why do you think so many people are drowning each year by the west coast...it is said that Ran tricks people out in the calm water but then drag them down with her huge drowning-net (folktale over the myth) You are pretty up to date about the nordic stuff, then you will know that Ægir is a seaking living in danish waters(read Snorri)and Ran the treaterous is his wife

  • @TheHrothwulf Ive been to denmark over 30times in my life, by ship, as many Norwegian do. Sure it can be a lots of waves etc. But compared to icelandic and Norwegian waters it is nothing.

Tons of tourists, especially germans, drown here aswell. The waters outside Stadtlandet is said to be one of the most dangerouse waters in entire europe, constantly being kept under watch. Not to mention Moskenstraumen, that is even visible on carta marina from 1555.

  • @Vikingskog it is about time you join the scandinavian brotherhood instead of just scratching your norwegian ass!Without the Icelanders nobody would know a shit about old norse traditions, the language of our old norse forefathers is beyond dispute danishtongue, and the swedes were pagan long after Norway and Denmark gave in to the christians..Im sorry to say that you need all the pieces in the puzzle whether you like it or not :-) But yes you have nice mountains -HAHA. I like your style though...

  • @TheHrothwulf True, but without the Norwegians there would have been no icelanders. AND the icelanders who wrote sagas(not all of the sagas were written by them) usually wrote them for a Norwegian public, sometimes even on command or mission from the king or chieftains or other elites.

Which is not hard to notice, especially with Heimskringla.

Sure, Sveane got christianized later, though gøtene not that late.

Swdeden was splitted up and wasnt united as one country before middleages.

  • @Vikingskog A bastard like me half Dane, half Norwegian do not get the bitter hatred towards other scandinavian countries - better be friendly towards your neighbours - you won't have better allies than us in the battle of preserving our beautiful heritage - because whether you like it or not - it is not yours alone.

  • @TheHrothwulf And danish tongue?Hardly, its ur-germansk, Norway was settled for 12000 years ago, mostly by people from north-germany.

The reason norse tongue was sometimes referred to as "danish tongue" is because denmark was closest to rest of europe and thus was more known by rest of the countries, Norway and sweden was more isolated.

Also, denmark has always had a much bigger population and been more rich, since denmark has a easier landscape and very much fertile land compared to Norway.

  • @Vikingskog If you really wanna go 12000years back to fish your arguments, you will find that indoeuropean language is a common denominator for 150 other languages. If you use this fact to build a national understanding on,then you will have a strong connection to asia.As you yourself said,Snorri wrote to and for the court of Norway and in his work he present the language of the old heroes as danish-tongue.If this word DANISHtongue could be uttered inthe NorwegiansOWNcourt,it was an accepted word

  • @TheHrothwulf1 What are you trying to proclaim? I dont get it.

are you trying to take credit for the entire scandinavian language history?

Because of a simple term used mostly by other countries in the viking age?

They didnt have too much clue about language history in year 1200, so if Snorre actually belived that gammel-norsk was developed from danish, doesnt matter much too me, any person educated in the matter can tell you that the scandinavian languages have developed from ur-nordisk.

  • @Vikingskog We have to recoqnise the common norse culture.Without the Icelandic nature, there would be no understanding of muspelheim the great fireland inspired by volcanos,no understanding of vettir and fyljgas.Without the danes no Ægir and Ran,no Gefion or Beowulf and no clear odinic cult.Without the sweedes no clear vanir cult, elves and brookhorses,Without Norwegians no fierce mountain giants, voyages to 'america' etc.Together we have a strong heritage, alone only fragments.

  • @TheHrothwulf1

There was odinic cults in Norway, next to my town there's even a entire island named Onsøy(Odins island) additional to a lot of archeology findings.

My region also have strong connection with elves and Yngve-frøy, the region was even called Alfheim during the viking age, heimskringla tells that people belived the people here was actually descendant from elves because we were prettier then the others.

Many of these things things existed in all 3 countries and not just in 1.

  • @TheHrothwulf1 Though this is a rather pointless dicussion. If one goes far back all of it comes from Germanic mythology.

And 95% of the sources of viking history were written by Norwegians or people by Norwegian descendant.

Ill not have danes come here and try to proclaim or steal any of our history, or spread lies about "danish tongue" like theyr better then us.

the danes have done enough injustice to us before, especially to our language, if they shouldnt start to fake history aswell.

  • @Vikingskog Relax you may get a heart attack choking on the words there;-) YOUR history, that's a good one!You seem to smart for such a comment.I will leave it there for the crowd to see and judge themselves. This 95%was written by ICELANDERS.At that time they were not Norwegians anymore than you are still DANISH.They wrote about Norwegian,Swedish+Danish kings. We in Denmark have our own source for our great vikingkings.Saxo.It's a HUGE work and the first 9 books are about our viking kings+heroes

  • if you now argue that Saxo is not a reliable source I will laugh till I choke of your (mis)understanding of this period. Why can't you settle that this is not only a heritage of the norwegians but for the whole norse region. Your argument sounds hollow and colored by fear for sharing this with people you obviously hate. Again remember what you yourself did to the Icelanders! You are not gods best children either

  • @thehrothwulf2 "what we did do the icelanders"? it was the danes that made them suffer, in the union. Norway didnt harm icelanders, after all icelanders was Norwegians themself in the viking age.

There are many errors in Saxo's litterature, as is confirmed by many historians. Im not saying heimskringla is without faults either, but there are errors.

Hate? I dont hate denmark or danes, i dislike arrogant patriotic danes who boast about something they should be ashamed of(1400-1750).

  • @thehrothwulf2 Icelanders was and are of Norwegian descendant. Snorre himself are descendant from Toten, in Norway. Iceland was populated by Norwegians, the litterature was written by them, mostly for a Norwegian public, whetever you like it or not that is how it is.

And me, danish bloodline? Nope, sorry to dissapoint you.

Donttry, as ive said, ive already read all the icelandic sagas that exist in Norwegian, aswell as heimskringla, fagerskinna, fornaldersagas, historia norvergicæ and more.

  • @Vikingskog My point exactly! The history isNORSEnot danish, norwegian, icelandic etc.Almost all the sources are from Iceland, that would point to the 'real' heathens being Icelanders.Unfortunately Icelanders couldn't make ships because of lack of wood-a viking nation without ships? No.They went to Denmark which was the center of shipbuilding in scandi because of the sea and many oak trees. Also the Icelanders have no trace of an Odinic cult, again we most look to DK,Freycult almost ONLY i Sweden etc

  • @TheHrothwulf1 Iceland did have forests. And they got wood from Norway. As iceland was popualted by Norway and the icelanders still had relatives and even property in Norway many ships sailed back and forth.

The icelandic sagas tells that they brought wood with them from Norway when sailing back and forth. Though nothing about building ships in denmark, it rarely mentions any journeys to denmark at all actually. Almost only to Norway, which is obvious why.

West-Norway was rich with oak too.

  • @Vikingskog In the beginning of the landnamperiod there was forrest on Iceland but it disappeared quickly. What was left was not suitable for shipbuilding.Yes,they got wood from Norway,so they could build ships on Iceland, but danes were much better shipbuilders and known through all europe for this skill.Thats why many Icelanders instead bought their ships in Denmark and sailed back. Most viking ships are found i Denmark, none in Sweden.Godal(norwegian scienti)argues that Oseberg+Gokstad=build inDK

  • @TheHrothwulf1 Haha sure, the danes, who out of the 3 coutnries were the one that sailed the shortest dinstances, were best at building ships?

strange logic, id say that Norwegian built ships, that could sail from Norway to Italy, and from Norway to Greenland to North america was good enough.

Norway has always been a sailing and fishing nation, and even is today, due to our big coastline and lack of fertile land. Denmark never had to depend that much on their coast line or sailing.

  • @TheHrothwulf1 And basing archeology finds that way is highly ignorant, thats like saying only Norway had viking helms, because the only viking helm ever found was found in Norway, Gjermundbu. You cant base things like that our of so few founds, the nature and geology has a lot to say regarding if ships were perserved or not.

Anyway, im done with you. You can go somewhere else and spew out ur danish "im better then the others"-pride. Strangely this is never a problem with swedes.

  • @Vikingskog Archeology is not used ad an argument, just an illustration. If anyones feelings was offended it was NOTmy intention. You my friend are though extremely sensitive with VERY delicate feelings.Sorry again -didn't see that one coming. We cannot all be equal good at everything, but I asure you:We are equal good ANYWAY.You got your mountains,I got my sea.You want the viking heritage to be exclusively norwegian -good for you..just do not open an university book from whatever country.God vind!

  • @thehrothwulf2 Are you even aware of all the damn backstabbing and abusing denmark has done to Norway over the last seven hundread years?

Or do you, like most patriotic danes apperantly, only know a glorified one-sided version, that doesnt mention at all how you over-taxed Norway, killed, forced, enslaved.

Fucksake, evne my great grandfather learned to write danish, the danish backstabbing in our language was still that strong and lingered even 100years after the union.

  • @thehrothwulf2 Denmark has never been missused and abused as severe as Norway has, not Sweden either. Out of the last 700years we have been free in 100 of them. How long have denmark been free? Did anyone ever force danes to write another language instead of their own, and on purpose ruin/affect the speaking-tongue? Force you to fight another countries wars against ur will? Steal ur artifacts and ur land, while the population sit there shitpoor?

Then assholes like you come here so full of urself

  • @Vikingskog i would say in some way we (Norway) are still being "forced" to fight in other countries wars, like iraq. im not saying the Norwegian government dont support the war but it's not like we have a choice. if we dont help USA and if shit goes down they dont help us and we're screwed :D
