They did leave it in the Sega CD version. Its just not very prominent. It plays in the background when Gillian and Metal discuss what to do before they split up in the Kremlin.

You're right, I've never noticed it before, but yeah, it's the same tune. But still, it's not as good as the Redbook Audio version.
