  • " Lebanon before Hezbolla and the PLO"

  • @nitsanozdoba23456678 - Funny, that was the original title of this clip...

  • @JahsRulz , the better title would have been, "Lebanon before the Israeli's threat".

  • Lebanese must overcome this sectarianism. Israel must have been so jealous about Lebanon back then. Anyway. It`s never too late for a fresh start.

    Greetings from morocco

  • @Sockevollpopcorn1 ;) Too True - well said!

  • Dear JahsRulz,

It is too bad that you didn't think of the viewers, when you copied this vt from Newsnight, BBC; by leaving the subtitles on display.

    .

I suppose that difference of opinion was the cause of the parital destruction of these cities by people unable to consider other's needs.

    .

    Cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • before multiculturalism . . . . .

  • My mom visited there a few years before the civil war erupted. Years later when the barracks were bombed she sat watching the TV and shaking her head, saying, "Beirut was a paradise on earth, and look what they did to it." I have Lebanese friends and they all say that a civil war was inevitable but they mourn the destruction of their home and all blame the glamorization of sharia law amongst the Muslims for the fracturing of that fragile but joyful peace.

  • looks nice! When the Middle East is no longer a pool of terrorists and fanatics, and when one can travel safely from Lebanon through Israel to Tehean, I will go there to make holidays and smoke shisha, drink beer in the public and watch beautiful girls.

  • BEFORE HEZBOLLAH?

I don't support Hezbollah, but you have to remember that this was before the civil war.

Nobody is right in Lebanon! Say BEFORE THE CIVIL WAR. It's not just Hezbollah, it's everyone. It's misleading politics.

    God bless Lebanon

  • heaven

  • "Lebanon before Hezbollah", wow how wise.

Educate yourself before writing such ignorant and propagandist descriptions.

  • @standardguru8 - Statement of fact, nothing more.

  • @JahsRulz then maybe you gotta get your facts right :P

Hizballah is not 40 years old ;)

  • @standardguru8 Exactly my point - this is a glimpse of Lebanon before many subsequent events that changed the country forever.

  • @JahsRulz yes, MANY being the important word here.

You forget about the assholes destroying our landscape with high rise buildings every day to get richer, the people who agreed on cancelling our tram lines in the 60s to get more space for cars, the clashes that were happening from the 50s, the civil war, the many religious groups each hurting the country more than the other and from all sides, the political assholes who make you follow them based on their religion and who never do anything

  • Respond to this video... and who always only think of their pockets, of the public school education problem (because the politicians prefer to make money from their stakes in private schools then make genuine effort to fix our public school programs), the lack of education about the civil war in school history books, and so on, and so on. So given, all of the above, I think it's pretty unfair and narrow to name this video "Lebanon before Hizballah". it's Lebanon before all these things

  • @JahsRulz Hezbollah weren't even around when the civil war started. I don't like any political party, but you can't blame one political party for all the madness.

  • @nerdheadbanger clearly using the H-word has caused too much confusion & strife so I've edited the title. Is everyone happy now..?

  • @JahsRulz It's all good, hehe.

  • israel is the root cause of all our problems. the zionist filth were building settlements in lebanon for 18 years.... is this the actions of someone simply defending themselves, or stealing land like they did to palestine? if israel wasnt building land in lebanon, clearly showing their true intent, then i would support them, but since they are typical imperialist scum, i support hezbollah, atleast they have the ability to menace the scum from europe.

  • Take a good look at what the Syrians, Iranians and Palestinians ruined forever with their muslim terrorism aimed at occupying, controling and destroying Lebanon.

  • Lebanon is a perfect example of Islam at work. Turning Lebanon into a third world shit hole governed by barbarism and superstition was the agenda that the Islamic scourge had for Lebanon, and for the rest of the world at large. The Muslims love living in squalor and animal shit, and seek to make the rest of the world more habitable for themselves. The Muslims should be wiped from the face of the Earth once and for all, it is the only hope for civilization.

All I am saying is that I am not a Maronite & not disclosing my religion or sect to ANY Lebanese simply because I do not want to be Labelled politically simply becasue I form my own opinions & I am an Independant person who lives overseas.." Paris of the Levant', " Jewel of the Orient" " Muslims Overthrowing Christians", " Phalangists are not true maronites"" ILLUSIONS!

  • OH MY GOD!!!! I honestly cannot believe some of the below conversations are about Christians and Muslims!!!! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! That's extremely PATHETIC!

  • @taghridd

    Thank you!! finally someone understands!

  • @taghridd they are mostly zionist pretending to be christian lebanese. this is how jews operate, they are the epitome of insidiousness.

  • @issareign: they are Zionist?! so you wanna say that none of the Christians nor Muslims are suffering from this discrimination disease?! Sometimes, I just can't believe teenagers and people in their 20's are following certain political groups!

For God Sake, what do they know about the history of politicians?! Almost each one of them was a criminal and those youngsters just follow them for the sake of what?!!! I just wonder when we Lebanese are going to realize how sick politics is driving us!!?!

  • @taghridd yea, christian community is the conduit for Zionists infiltration.

  • Fuck u.Its not (israel)its PALESTINE.

  • Lebanon should be an example for what happens when Islam is going to clash with the west

  • I am Jewish from Europe, i have been to Lebanon. It is a very beautiful country, high mountains, beautiful sea, Beirut is like Monte Carlo, nice people. Lets hope that one day we will be able to travel from Beirut to Tel aviv.

  • @zion16675 that's be so sick zion..we love the jewish people..it's the damn muzzies that have to ruin it for us

  • israel doesnt compare to lebanon when it comes to beauty.

  • @RagingUtai

exactly.. Lebanon is better... lets face it.. lebanon has snow.. Israel has desert.. lebanon has mountains covered with forests .. Israel has deserts.. Lebanon Is indeed better.. thank you for clearing it up!

  • lebanon by far the best !

  • thank you for this beautiful video..i'm proud to be Lebanese Christian and yes hezoballah ruined Lebanon..i don't care what you haters say..everyone wants a piece of it because it's such an awesome piece of real estate

  • hi, 1. i know this sounds weird but.. i think i am related to u :P haha its dennis:P if not im sorry haha

    2. yes u are very correct haha!

  • hahaha i don't think we are Dennis but its okay

  • @geor1717

I'm with Hezbollah and I agree with you but not on the part where hezbolllah destroyed it.. only that it is a beautiful country and everyone wants a peace of it!

  • @hasanrules Hezbollah hosts the Palestian occupyers under the lies of "Defending" Lebanon against Israel while the real invaders are the Syrians, Iranians and Palestinians.....

  • @vousmonde

    Hahah your stupid

  • @hasanrules if I WAS stupid then you're Satan's crap

  • @vousmonde

haha loser took him 6 months to figure out a come back.. LOSER. :)

  • You comment mentioning that this is Lebanon before Hezbollah shows quite little culture. This is way before Hezbollah that was founded in 1982. And as a matter of fact Capitalists like Rafik Hariri harmed significantly more this image of Lebanon than anybody else. The reference to Hezbollah seems to blame them for the change and it is quite misplaced.

  • Adam,

The assumption that the departure of Syrians, PLO, and Israeli soldiers will solve most of Lebanon's problems thru reunification is simply naive to assume

After all the above have departed the country.Lebanon's fundamental problems remain unchanged.

Lebanon has chronic problems in its social fabric simply demonstrated in what it takes to form a govt by a majority block!

what is more serious is the constant state of denial lebanon suffers

  • Watching this, it's clear how much damage the PLO did

  • We are in 2009 it should be clear to see who the bad guys is wake up! and one more thing Libanon, Palestinien, Syrien and Arudon was the same land before France and England had taken over

  • wow I see alot of hate on muslim people her, Im not muslim Im christian and I dont see a different we all after that belives in the same God. So I dont think the problem is the muslim people or palestinien..Libanon was once a Christian land and some of those people decided to become muslimes..anyway its not hizbullah who started the war its Isreal and USA who wanted to take over libanon you guys should be thankful that hizbollah saved the land so it wont belong to no one than the lebanes people

  • @Kalthoum88 Wow You are a typical Lebanese terrorist. Since when Israel or U.S.A. started war in Lebanon? All your wars were instigated by your terrorists and supported by Syria and Iran. In reality, its the Muslim militancy that destroy Lebanon. For as long as their is Hezbollah, Lebanon will never attain prosperity. PEACE FOR LEBANON is just a pipe dream. Sooner or later, another war will break again....and what you just built will be destroyed again...and again...and again. Poor Lebanon.

  • @philipdcrusader, Curious that you would call them terrorists. After all, all of the native Lebanese militia's don't actually use suicide bombings as a tactic. Foreign intervention has always hindered Lebanon's prosperity and it is a known fact that Israel just added to the tension already present.

  • @WilsonWolfe075 So you think without foreign intervention Lebanon will prosper? You are dreaming, my friend. For as long as any country, who have considerable militant Muslims, chaos will reign their land.

  • @philipdcrusader, Lebanon did prosper when foreign intervention was not present. In fact the Lebanese Pound once was more valuable than the American Dollar. Although some would argue that at that period in history the country was governed by the Christians, others would argue that most of the banks stored money from the neighboring Muslin countries. You should also note that I am a Maronite, and my defense of the Muslims is only pertaining to their equality as human beings and not their culture.

  • @WilsonWolfe075 Take note that Im describing militant before the word Muslims. Yes, Muslims are also human but the onus must be to the Muslims to develop their own culture and country. Muslims have the habit of blaming America or Israel for their woes.

  • @philipdcrusader, The argument you put forth is not entirely valid. The reason being that most of the Christian militant groups in Lebanon were in fact armed by Israel during the Civil War. In layman's terms, if your criticizing all militants then perhaps you should note that some of those militants were loyal to Israel. Meaning that Israel intervened in Lebanon's political affairs thus making the aforementioned foreign intervention theory valid.

  • @WilsonWolfe075 To this day, Lebanese Christians are not really loyal to Israel. Its a natural way of self-preservation that they must take the side of Israel. Yes, its intervention in the real sense of the word and any Lebanese cannot make their country free from any foreign intervention. Lebanese can only wish for a free Lebanon but they cant do anything about it.

  • @philipdcrusader, The Lebanese Forces Militia actually took direct orders from Israel during the latter wartime era, emptying out Palestinian camps with M16's in hand. Although one must say that it was most certainly not for self preservation. The reason for such a statement being that they were also fighting other Christian groups at the time, and as said above, following orders directly from Israel.

  • @WilsonWolfe075 What's the difference between the Christians who get support from Israel and Hezbollah who get their support from Iran? All are contributing to the chaos in Lebanon.

  • @philipdcrusader, There is no difference, and I think you just made an excellent point.

  • @WilsonWolfe075 I can sympathize with the unnecessary deaths and destruction suffered by the Lebanese. I guess, the solution is to partition Lebanon between the Muslims and Christians. Of course, Lebanese will not agree because of varying reasons but partition makes sense.

  • @philipdcrusader, A partition existed before, and it did not work. Although this theory occurred to me before, I later realized that it was not feasible. The South and North were once mostly Christian and Jewish, hence the ancient churches and synagogues in those areas. But the South has since become entirely Muslim and they will never give up what they consider to be theirs. Considering the fact that the Christians would want the South for it's historical and religious value adds to the issue.

  • @WilsonWolfe075 Then internecine is inevitable. War is only a matter of time and I take the side of whoever against Hezbullah.

  • @philipdcrusader, In which case the Lebanese Army is the only respectable ally my friend.

  • @WilsonWolfe075 Yes. I hope the Lebanese Army will perform its mandate in case war breaks out again. But I have doubt. They are even afraid of Hezbollah and their weaponry could not even match Israel. There must be a strong Lebanese military so the government can function well. A government that can imposed its laws and a strong military who can fight vested interests. Either way, Lebanon lacks both.

  • @philipdcrusader, actually the Lebanese army maintains a world class special force, the Maghwar. They receive training from the Green Berets and the Russian Special Forces. They also maintain a world class intelligence service as well, they have to stay balanced with the Mossad and Syrian Intelligence after all. The Lebanese army lacks nothing but large enough numbers and the Government lacks only support from Hizballah. They don't fear them at all, they merely use them for the time being.

  • @WilsonWolfe075 In many years of observing Lebanon, its politics and leadership, I couldnt find an ideology and cohesive people that will lead coherent strategy to make her strong. Its obvious Lebanon govt. exist bcoz of political expediency and lacks the will to fight their extremists. No matter how we admire Lebanon, she will be destroyed again. I am awed by the beauty of Lebanon and I can only shake my head how its splendour will just go wasted.

  • @philipdcrusader, The Great Lebanese have survived the Greek, Persian, Roman, Caliphate, Egyptian, Syrian, Ottoman, Australian, French, Palestinian, Syrian, and Israeli invasions and advances. The survival of the people is not in danger, and the will of the people to fight should not be questioned. Lebanon has taken many forms over the centuries. Phoenicia, the city states, Syrian Lebanon, the French Mandate, Great Lebanon, and finally the Confessional Republic of Lebanon.

  • @philipdcrusader, She has never been destroyed, and never will be. For her people have seen more struggle than the world at large and her armor bears the marks of war, yet remains strong. This current conflict is only a small one on her ever eternal soil. Lest people forget that the Lebanese at one time were Jewish and Christian, and that they fought alongside through the wars of days long gone. They fought together, bled together and considered each other of equal worth.

  • @philipdcrusader, "Great Lebanon shan't shiver at the sight of foreign steel. Yet the tumor of internal strife deals a blow no blade could. For it strikes were no blade can reach and cannot easily be treated. Though rest assured that one day the ailment shall heal, and all shall kneel before the healed Great Lebanon." © A General of Great Lebanon, his ironic last words after being shot in the chest.

  • @WilsonWolfe075 Let the Great Lebanon reign again. But its too late. Gone are the days of righteous Lebanese. You failed to incise the tumor that afflict Lebanon. Hezbollah will drag you to war again.

  • @philipdcrusader, What you say is very true, they do have a tendency to start wars and riots on the land they are said to protect. And now they have the Tayyar blindly following them, they're calling it "Uniting the Nation". But in reality it only hinders the prospect of a peaceful future. Because we all know what will happen when they seize power.

  • @WilsonWolfe075 Strange. You are knowledgeable about Lebanon. You are obviously Lebanese. You know Hezbollah and Im wondering what are your thinking or the remaining "righteous" Lebanese attitude vis-a-vis the present and critical situation. Where are your idealism and patriotism for Lebanon? You are just waiting for Lebanon's destruction. Your dreams are just dreams. Soon your nightmares will come.

  • @philipdcrusader, The remaining righteous Lebanese are either aged, deceased or still learning. The learning Lebanese are our hope for a better future. For through knowledge and diligence comes peace and prosperity. My people are the Old Maronites of Lebanon. Our ancestors fought alongside the Crusader Orders, and yet survived even after the Muslims took control of the Terra Sancta. We survived torture, enslavement, suppression and execution until we finally took power in the 20th century.

  • @philipdcrusader, And when we took power our nation flourished. The Jewel of the Orient Lebanon was called, Berytus was labeled the Paris of the Levant. But the Muslims labeled us oppressors and vowed to overthrow Christian rule in Great Lebanon. Rebellions and unrest followed, and as a result the nation declined. Later when the Palestinians entered our nation the battle turned sour. As they drew first blood in hopes of a new homeland, resulting in the civil war.

  • @philipdcrusader, The Christians were the first to fight the Palestinians in retaliation, albeit in an unethical manner. Although we do not consider the Phalanges to be true Maronites. The Lebanese have since been angered by the State of Israel for giving us the burden of the Palestinians. Israel had, with or without intention, furthered the struggle of the Christians in Lebanon. They did this by adding more Muslims to the fight. The rest is a long story of traitors and false profits.

  • @WilsonWolfe075 If you ever regain your power over Lebanon, do your best to partition Lebanon into Muslim dominated North and Christian dominated South. That's the only solution I can think of. You have an unrealistic and unattainable goal. You are dreaming of Lebanon's grandeur that will never come true. You are in the abyss of destruction, my friend. Set aside your national anthem and adapt Matt Monro song's "The Impossible Dream" and fight for, at least, a united front against Hezbollah.

  • @philipdcrusader, Lebanon should be entirely Christian in my honest opinion. The North and South should be ours. This would be an easy task if the Christian Lebanese from outside of the Nation returned. The Lebanese Christians in this world outnumber the Lebanese Muslims four to one. Yet sadly they all live in other nations. The Christians would never wish any part of our once glorious nation to be infested by the Muslims. For they destroy the land no matter where they go. Glimpse upon Berytus.

  • @WilsonWolfe075 Its too late to make Lebanon entirely a Christian country. My suggestion is the only logical solution. If South Lebanon will be allocated for the Christians, it will be a buffer against Hezbollah attacks. Israel will welcome it and will protect South Lebanon. Since North Lebanon borders Syria and Iran, its only right Muslims must live there. The good thing is, if Hezbollah will lob rockets, at least only the Muslims will be destroyed sparing the innocent Christians.

  • @philipdcrusader, The Christians are not going to give up their rightful land in exchange for land that was already ours not long ago. Besides that fact, Syria still would border us and would gladly attack Southern Lebanon and begin their reign of terror once more. The Syrians have always done more damage to Lebanon than the Israeli's. Also, Iran is very far away from Lebanon and does not border it.

  • @WilsonWolfe075 As Ive said, its too late to make Lebanon an entirely Christian country. Lebanese Christians is already a spent force as shown by some collaborators, migration and the slow weakening of Maronites and Phalanges groups. The Druze and the Sunni are also weak and there is no monolithic entity that can confront Hezbollah (Iran) and Syria. You do not have an ideology that will hold you together and the worst is, you are standing idly waiting for the war that will surely come.

  • @philipdcrusader, We are not a spent force at all actually, most Lebanese Generals are Christian and the President is not allowed to be a Muslim in Lebanon. Besides the war isn't coming, it's already here. This conversation is getting fairly old, It's been almost a week that we've been discussing this and we've come to no fair solution. I'll continue the conversation if you wish but I must get back to my studies.

  • @philipdcrusader, But as for my optimism, I must declare that us Maronites have been suppressed throughout history. Yet we have managed to emerge from every struggle, though weaker, still alive. And I hope that we will just emerge from this current mess as we did beforehand. I hope this answers your questions, but if it does not then you must forgive me. I will try to be more thorough in the next comment.

  • @Kalthoum88 You can take your Lebanon. Israel or America does not need Lebanon. The trouble started when Palestinian used Lebanon as a spring board to terrorist attacks. Now Hezbollah are doing it. Stop your Hezbollah and your trouble ceases. Its simple as that, my friend.

  • This video makes me sad. These days are long gone and realistically speaking, we'll never see them again.

  • That's true the world over. This clip is ~50 years old remember...

  • @JahsRulz i see you wrote in the info above that, this is lebanon before hezballah....s your saying hezballah ruined lebanon???

  • Lebanon was heaven and its sitll heaven but i remember the time when all was chrisitan it was so much better . the muslims where ofc so jealous and whanted to destroy it and they still whant to do it . but lebanon will never fail . Syria.Palestine, sirael . couldent take lebanon . Lebanon is lebanon thats the way it is ! Lebanon for life . lebanon is my life will always be!

  • People like you are the reason why Lebanon will continue to be in a state of war. Learn to get along with others and embrace the pluralistic nature of Lebanon, or go fuck off to France.

P.S. I'm Greek Orthodox so don't pull the Muslim card on me.

  • THOSE WERE THE DAYS.......when the majority Christians were the real face of Lebanon ..unfortunately ..........later on the Palestinians and the Iranians (hezbula ) took over and destroyed beautiful LEBANON.......................

  • how beautiful Lebanon was.....the christian ruled and made Lebanon like heaven.......Switzerland of the middle east ....................

  • Jahrulz:

Thank you so much for sharing this important video about Lebanon :)

    _

  • We can only remember the glorious days of old Lebanon. The Christians majority are gone so are the days of prosperity and calm. The Muslims already overtook the land and war came...and will come again. Poor Lebanon.

  • That amazing how biased you are against Muslims. I am Muslim and Lebanese as well and my parents and grand parents contributed a lot to the properity of Lebanon!

  • Im sorry if I offended you. But facts speak for itself. Im suggesting you tell Hezbollah to talk with ISrael to avoid war. In this way, Lebanon will be spared from senseless destruction.

  • You also forget about the Kataeb, Lebanese-CHRISTIAN militants who were the ones who started the civil war in 1975 by attacking a bus full of PLO millitants passing through Beirut. I don't hate my fellow Arabs, and that's why Lebanon has alot to do with the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. They, along with Egypt, Syria, & Jordan did not approve of the State of Israel, and decided to fight along with the Palestinians in their RESITANCE against their, now, oppressors.

  • christian militants did not start the war

    the palestinians killed christian maronites

and as an answer the christians attacked the bus

    THEN the civil war started.

  • oh well, at leats thank god its behind us now

  • Remember Israel is just stolen Palestinian land...

  • So whats it got to do with Lebanon? If you dont like Israel go to Gaza and fight them. Dont bring your war to Lebanon.

  • The most amazing country in the world... my country lebanon

  • This is the real LEBNANON!

  • i think lebanon is heaven on earth:)

  • Yes, It WAS heaven on earth that becomes HELL when Muslims overtook it.

  • are you even lebanese philip crusader?

The people who caused the damage was the palestinians and trust me not everyone in the PLO was a muslim george habbash and others.

    Lebanon belongs to the Lebanese.

    there is no christian lebanon

no muslim lebanon only one Lebanese people.

  • Yes, Lebanon belongs to Lebanese. But you are not realistic. Lebanon consists of people with diverse interests. The Shiites likes the Hezbollah and Hezbollah wants war against its neighbor. If you are a peaceful Lebanese and war comes, will you hate Israel for the war your own fellow Lebanese started? I also beg to disagree that there is no Muslim Lebanon. Lebanon is sorrounded by Muslims and they want to control the Lebanese, hence Lebanon is becoming a Muslim nation.

  • I choose any lebanese over israel.

you dont know what your talking about asshole half the goverment is christian and the president has to be a maronite hardly the critea of a "muslim lebanon" when we dont even have a state religion.

Lebanon is still great because the people is.

  • heres a question for you phill before you dare reply, have you ever been to Lebanon?

  • philip plz stop talking

    all you're saying is bullshit

leave Lebanon for the Lebanese now

    u know nothing

  • @philipdcrusader that's why most of my family lives in the states..muslims always want to control everybody and start wars like facists and nazis hence the term islamofacism

  • full of beautyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

    beautifuuuuuuuuuuul !!!!!!!

  • Where Can I download this movie please ??

  • I think they got better parts of israel and not the best parts of lebanon.
