It was really cute hearing Emma Stone's impersonation of this in Crazy, Stupid, Love. and knowing that it was also something she tweeted. Too bad she deleted the tweet though.
"Flay-vah this rich just HAS to be deep brewed" - That's one of Lauren (well, Bette's) INIMITABLE other lines from one of the other ads I remember and may even have on VHS from the time, 1981-1982 ! Also, who could ever forget the sample packets ??!!!! "AHHNT these sample packets CUTE? ANNND THEY-AH FREE!" & then Lauren instructed everyone to listen to the address of where to write for the sample packets: "Come on WRITE us, yohhhr gonna LOV V V V V IT !"
@TTLYPerfect People are way too afraid of stating their opinions. We have to realize that we are being bullied by the "politically correct" and the "diva defenders" (and other forms of trolls), and then we have to stand up for ourselves and/or ignore them. It is only by stating dissenting opinions that we make things move forward in life.
@wattever333 You are correct, thanks for your advice. Also, thanks for not being afraid to say what you really feel...there's not enough people who have the guts; instead there’s too many bullies trying to dissuade free thought.
Hahahahhaaaaa:-) Incredible...listen to the sound of her voice when she is humming for "pleasure" at 00:21. Run that sound a few times and you have either a bumble-bee or a cello-like chain-saw:-) She is GREAT:-)
This spot dates back to about 1973. I worked as a junior art director in the creative group that had this account and did the Highpoint ads. Compton Advertising, 625 Madison Ave.....long gone.
A HUGE star doing an instant coffee television commercial and who just transforms the genre into great popular art! The husky, sexy smoker's contralto voice, the Brooklyn drawl, the iron authority and confidence.... she always kicks ass! I've told people about this commercial for decades ("FLA-VAHHH!") and now we get to finally see it again here. I LOVE YouTube!! Betty--you're the best!
I shook hands with Lauren Bacall, and had a brief chat with her, at a press conference in 1979. I was 19 years old at the time, and she, of course, was decades older than I, but I was struck by how incredibly sexy and beautiful she was. In person, she also had a warmth and humor that never came through in her screen performances -- She was always the cool, mysterious femme fatale onscreen. But a warm and funny KNOCKOUT in person!
I remember this commercial but the one that sticks to my mind is when she says "around he-ah we don't like coffee, we love it..thats why I drink high point decaffinated coffee because I am a coffee lova , Deep brewed flava, ahhh yess"
You have to love Lauren here. I was convinced because the "Bacall" said so until I actually tried High Point Decaffeinated. It wasn't a bad instant, but "deep brewed flavor, ummmmmmmmmmmm!"? Not quite. They didn't sell High Point in all parts of the country but they did in Connecticut in the early to mid 80s.
you think coffee and sleep don't mix? they do if it's high point! it's decaffeinated! and the flavuh's mahvelous.

Trivia facts on this ( worked on the campaign back then when I was just starting out.):
Richest aroma = the aroma when you first open the jar! not the aroma on the coffee. I could not believe it when the network apporved the claim
The previous campaign called "Decaffeinate the one you love" was hysterically (bad). There is one of those commericals on here.
She was chosen for the ad because of her high standards.
