The growth rate of koi largely depends on the breed and bloodlines possessed by individual carps. As such, knowing the pedigree of your koi can greatly help but never fully guarantee how the fish would develop. Feeding protein-rich feeds would help accelerate their growth; some fish could achieve this size in just 2-4 years. Some breeds, such as Narumi Asagi, Yamabuki Ogons, etc. are know to grow very large. There is even a record of a Chagoi reaching 4 1/2 feet in length.

This Hajiro is very excellent...with the carp's pure white  fin edges being symmetrical to each other, especially the white of its pectoral fins, I consider this specimen as nothing less than perfect.
