You failed to give a single example of a "progressive interpretation" for any of the (of which the Qur'an is full) verses I posted. Why? Because there exists no and cannot exist any such interpretation: The Qur'an is the infallible word of the Muslim god; it does not come with an expiration date. Nowhere does it say "what's written here only applies during the prophet's lifetime". So the only thing "progressive" Muslims can (and do)do is ignore it the way Christians ignore biblical atrocities.
So he's saying the only morally correct course is pacifism... Well, that's not so objectionable, even if its unworkable.

@fctchk You don't have to post the verses, I've read the Qur'an, just as I've read the other holy books, and I understand they were written centuries, or, in some cases, millenniums ago. You cannot apply something that was written in 7th century to the today's world. Apostasy is a very good example - Dawkins keeps insisting that it is a crime and that, according to Islam, apostates are to be executed, despite the progressive Islam that rejects such interpretation as extremist (Al Baqara 256).
Most of this panel seem to think that America is the "aggrieved party" because they were attacked. But the fact is that you "New Atheists" are accepting the most conservative and most reactionary interpretation of Islam, instead of supporting the reform within it (that, by the way, began decades ago). @fctchk You don't have to post the verses, I've read the Qur'an, just as I've read the other holy books, and I understand they were written centuries, or, in some cases, millenniums ago. You cannot apply something that was written in 7th century to the today's world. Apostasy is a very good example - Dawkins keeps insisting that it is a crime and that, according to Islam, apostates are to be executed, despite the progressive Islam that rejects such interpretation as extremist (Al Baqara 256).

Most of this panel seem to think that America is the "aggrieved party" because they were attacked. They seem to know nothing about the continual violent there government does in Muslim and other countries. It's a bad state of affairs to no admit your government commits crimes against innocent people. How can anything be healed if the murders never stop killing, and never say sorry and try to repair the damage done. It's very sad I think.

Many Americans do not realize the horror done in their name. The American backed Iraqi sanctions killed so many children and old people over it's 10 year period: look at the numbers, it's astounding. If any American was born there, and experience their friends and family dying because of the American government, they would be beyond angry. Al Jazeera is a great news source - committed to truth and the perspective of the south. They have many ex BBC people on staff. Watch "Control Room" which is an excellent documentary about the station. Al Jazeera was represented as propaganda by the US administration precisely because it refuses to present the American administration's point of view. Maher is not very bright - he buys US govt propaganda. And he is also very anti-Arab and anti-Muslim (witness his recent comments).

AbuKhalil is highly intelligent but it seems to me, like many Arab scholars, that he harbors a hatred for Israel and the Jews. I would have liked the movie A SERIOUS MAN more if I hadn't previously seen this clip with Richard Kind. In this clip, Kind basically asks As'ad that if he doesn't like America, why does he stay? He tries to be so polite with his silly question too. It just comes off as smug and arrogant. All of these fear promoters, aside from As'ad, would have supported (maybe still do) a House Un-American Activities Committee for terrorists. Nice job, Richard Kind.
