Never seen this version and its absolute a legendary three they will always be and from Canada so all u jealous fukers who cannot produce something so great to still remain today is without a doubt a fine farewell as they progressw into epic masters of keeping it together as Canadas original three EHHHHH
What I mean is what used to make Canada free was the way that it was 100 years ago, when a miner or some other tycoon could just annihilate an entire ecosystem of pristine evergreens and replace it with a barren, scorched piece of earth. Free market capitalism was a wonderful thing. Who needs trees?
@ebonics4everyone So the Maple formed a Union and demanded equal rights! The Oaks are just to greedy, we will make them give us light! Now there's no more Oak repression for they cast a nobility law.And the trees are all kept equal by hatchet, axe and saw.
I was 8yrs old in 1978 there was a place that printed labels on cassettes & all the mistakes got tossed in the dumpster. My friends and I dug through it and mostly found opera or something else we didn't want...but there was one tape with nothing but a big black bar where the track listing should have been...I put the tape in my ghetto-blaster and the first thing we heard was "Alright will you please welcome home...RUSH" and thunder came out of the speakers. I was hooked from day 1
@Dahgrostabphri I was about that age when my parents got me that same album, All The World's A Stage, of course it was a cd because that was back in '98.
@dukeford No, i really don't. Also there are many of whom Alex would consider better than him, none of them are correct of course, but I doubt Jeff Beck would be his chosen favourite?
@dukeford well whatever, all 4 you have mention have at some time been named the best guitarist. I havent even heard Jeff Beck, only heard of him and its only moderately good views on his stuff, therefore i never bothered listening to him.
Instead of saying 'well Jeff Beck couldn't play Alex's stuff' because that would cause an arguement i can't be bothered to take part in, i'll say this - Jeff Beck couldn't write Alex stuff, but Alex could write his.
@dukeford no, im 18. Not like that would make a difference.
Pretty stupid comment if u ask me, if i didn't know better i'd say that you realised that last comment was correct and tried some form of offence to make yourself feel good, not that it worked ofcourse. For a 55 year old that was pretty immature i must say....
@MrNusecus Look kid, I've forgotten more about guitarists and guitar playing than you'll ever learn. Why don't you grow up before spouting off on who the best guitarist is?
@dukeford well clearly after 55 years of your so-called education you've forgotten about something called an opinion, maybe you should just take your head out of your arse and stop being such a mardy prick....
This is some real music! It's a shame how underrated Rush is just because they aren't some generic band. They actually have a passion for music instead of money, sex, and drugs.
I saw them at United Center June '08 (night before 8th grade graduation) and at Charter One Pavillion July '10 (summer after sophomore year). Tomorrow I start my senior year of high school and I live for prog.
Man, I wish they would at least ONCE appear in those robes again live. I personally think they're awesome and fit the prog rock theme! Long live Rush!
I'm one of the lucky ones. I first saw Rush on their 2112 tour when I was 16 and have seen them another 12-15 times since then. Most of the tour videos I've found here are from tours I saw in person. It's been a great stroll down memory lane the last couple of days. So many amazing memories. And they're still working, still touring, still providing superb music. Long may they run.
More timely w/ todays headlines then ever. Interesting that another poster above targets "industrialists" as the men in "Kingly Guise". My guess is it would be more apt to represent Democrats and Republicans both today in the US. (a pox on both ) Neil was a huge fan of Ayn Rand....their lyrics while not promoting any one idealology usually show more of a libertarian bent. Part of what made RUSH lyrics great was not following right or left wings of thought, but rather rational thinking.
@SargNickFury I concur. Primarily the whole "moral majority" strain in the GOP puts them at odds with Rush, while Rush definitely favoured keeping their entire earnings and paying nothing in taxes. That puts Rush at odds with the Democrats too.
Youtube is pissing me off. Under every single Rush song they say 'Rush at Celeste Center, Columbus on Aug 3, 2011. They don't mean Rush. They mean the band 'Big Time Rush'. It's so damn annoying.
What else can i say? since i was a little boy me and my dad listened to Rush. Now i have all of their songs and i sing along with them! Thank you, you are the best Three guys around!
By far my favorite rush song, besides the anolog kid.I LOVE THE BASS LINE IN THE CHORUS-his bass is talking, and at the beginning of the guitar solo. oh, and geddy's outfit :P. such an awesome song. now what i need is some friends who like rush..I am 22 and female, gee, this will be easy. any one looking to sell a time machine so i can go back and see this live?
why is there any dislikes? Why would you go to a Rush video if you don't like them? Were you expecting Justin Beiber? Didn't Rush play Rush well enough especially when this is a video of the album recording? I don't get it! If you don't like Rush then don't watch it!!
WOW they were spot on with these lyrics, your lucky folks from outside britain,we still have snobby class divisive, useless royals sponging tax payers money for their life of luxury yes in 2011.Off subject i know but if you were funding royal snobs you might feel the same too.great song.
The more i listen to their older stuff like this song, the more i come to the conclusion that nobody tells this band how to write music. I do definately think their music of today is ok, but doesnt come near this stuff.. BU2B clearly has no heartfelt melodies i personally think they should stop with the bu2b shit and get back to there roots. It will be interesting to note their next album. What do you guys reckon of their stuff today?
@grassy00 they're snakes and arrows album from 2008 was GREAT in my opinion...workin them angels, the main monkey business, etc. but the two new singles they put out from Clockwork Angels have disappointed me a little. Then again, when you have almost a 40 year history of making great music, it's kind of hard to complain. But you're right, their old stuff, lyrically and musically is unrivaled. Hopefully when they do come out with Clockwork Angels there'll be some more good tunes on there.
@xRobbie1 i agree but just for some facts, rush is 3rd in the US for consecutive gold/platinum albums, which is all of there albums so 24, and they are 79th for album sales, which is also pretty damn good, but i agree to hell with album sales and the rock and roll hall of SHIT
One of the best musical pieces but also one of the best lyrics full of political points. "Scheming demons dressed in kingly guise" ... Today, "Kingly guise" is "expensive business suits" .... how many of these politicians and others are workin for the 'peoples' interest and how many are working for their own gain. When you find out how many have secret interests in various oil, weapons manufacture (promoted by wars) or other situations, you really have to wonder.
@zetetic0void and when you find out how many Special Interests are involved in the Green Movement, you really have to wonder. The underlying theme of Rush to me was always Freedom and in the end that's what Neil was always trying to promote. Long Live Freedom !
I teach The Lord of the Rings, and I use this song in conjunction with Tolkien's The Return of the King, using it to compare kingly types like Theoden, Denethor, and Aragorn and connecting back to novels like 1984, Anthem, and Fahrenheit 451. Rush is a fantastic resource for literature teachers!
@Crust218 Not to get off topic, but this is the type of creative teaching across disciplines that schools need!!! Ya know, instead of teaching to standardized tests and all..... Oh, and RUSH RULES!!!! :-)
@Bigalwannabe i always like to say that there are those of us who get rush...and there is the rest of the world...rush is like a secret that you feel fortunate enough to know...the rest of the world if they only knew then we wouldnt be special for having these three guys in our lives...and Real Rush fans are special...
To this day I'll still never forget the Sunday morning in the fall of 1977 when my brother and I watched this song, Xanadu and Closer To The Heart on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. I was 14 years old and in November of that year would see RUSH at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, Pa!!!
What an influence RUSH has had on my guitar playing all these years. Thanks Geddy, Alex and Neil for the Soundtrack of my Life!!
@NS9144 I was 2 when this came out. However, that didn't stop my brother and I from discovering it in 1989 when I was 14. Went to see them a couple months later on the Presto tour. Haven't missed a show since then. Would have been nice to catch them on tour for AFTK, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves or Moving Pictures though. Those were the golden years of Rush.
@kovalevisgod Those were the golden years! Though I would say Snakes & Arrows might be the best album since then, and I have high hopes for Clockwork Angles given the how cool the track "Caravan" is.
The first time I saw Rush was the Farewell To Kings tour in Toledo at the Sports Arena. I have been a fan since, and will be at the Time Machine tour show at the Huntington Center in April.
@TheManWithTheCan It's not hilarious, but only logical. "Mainstream" equals to "prefered by the vulgus". We all would love common people to listen to something really good (complex, enriching, inspiring, deeply touching, just like Rush) instead of garbage. So, if we want to make a better world and encourage others to think for themselves, let us invite our friends and relatives to listen to Rush!!! :))
This is some Bad-ass freaking tunage...if you can't hang,,then there is alot out there that maybe you can grind to..but this is kinda the deep vault of prog rock or...maybe what i'd call post- Beatles music .. dig it or fare thee well...
@Ronbo710 I saw Moving Pictures tour and remember seeing guys with Farewell to Kings concert shirts and thinking that must have been forever ago, back in the day! I was like, 13.
@jampitts i know but the name of the guitar is gibson es 355 and i know that his last name is lifeson or if u want to be completlty right zivoyinovic probly spelt that wrong

Fantastic intro! Such a meaningful song. I don't really like the electric part so much, but oh well

If you like music, you have to like Rush. Granted Geddy's voice can get annoying but, you'll get over it.
