@Walapalooza1 They did no such thing! Sounds nothing like it...go back to your Lego's and Highlights magazine and leave the music to people who can actually HEAR.
Lived across a laneway from Pete Farnon years ago in North Fitzroy - we met him 'cos he and his housemates owned a dog ('Ruby'); who perpetually escpaed from their yard into ours.
typical 80s stuff, androgynous lead singer surrounded by nancy boys and hairdressers nightmares, but I agree, the 80s were good, better that the 70s which truly sucked. Hume Wier? I never would accuse any 80s band of environmetal awareness
@givemethebeatboys It was an awesome era to be a teenager. We didn't realise it at the time - but, the music was to become iconic ! They were days of relative innocence, basic decency and good fun ! No personal computers; mobile smart phones; internet or ipods - life was so much easier and happier ! Loved this song so much. Contrary to popular belief, the song is not about the Great Wall of China ... It was indeed written about the Hume Weir / Dam located near Albury NSW.
@AussieAviator Absolutely agree with you on all points, and I'm an I.T. guy! :P It was simpler and more fun back then. The 80s was an awesome time to be a teenager. Wish I was back there sometimes ...
@AussieAviator I agree, it was an amazing era. Saw these boys many, many times. Except the song isn't about Hume Weir, it's about marriage, and the breakdown of it. sorry to be a dampener on your theory.
@jo25182518 "Great Wall" was never an album. It was the debut single for Boom Crash Opera (BCO) & is on their self titled debut CD. Which is no longer in print. Other songs on that album include "Hands Up In the Air" , "Her Charity" & "Bombshell". BCO never officially broke up & they still do occasional shows around Australia.
Yes, I remember my sister saying that they were the new INXS when this song came out on Countdown. With a song like this to start a career, I'm not surprised. And he's got the Hutchence swagger and look to a T in this clip. RIP Michael you bloody legend.
This album had some awesome songs, I had the LP. Can't find it anywhere on CD though, unfortunately.
Was fortunate to see them play a free gig at the Espy last year though...rockin out!
@dreamstate73 It is on their greatest hits album. Recently saw Dale Ryder in comcert with Paul Gray from WaWa Nee and Scott Carne from Kids in the Kitchen. They were supporting 1927 who by the way were brilliant. Eric has got big dredlocks now but can still sing.

deadeye Dick absolutely ripped off this chorus for 'New Age Girl' which was a big US hit on the Dumb & Dumber soundtrack.
I hope BCO sued.

@tboy24 you must be tone deaf tboy?
Chorus has the same chords. Same phrasing. Same melody. Same harmonies. Same tempo.
Just different words.
It might not be intential, but it is still a breach of copyright.

BCO - once discribed by Bono from U2 as "the best band in the world".

Dale should front INXS, he would be perfect for it.

Great song, wretched video made for $10; still, glad to see it--never knew they made one, but then again, this wasn't a hit in the US where I live.

have stood on both - I must admit the Chinese one was more inspiring!
