Right after this, she jumped in her suburban gas guzzler and drove home thinking about all her convictions that she unknowingly contradicts everyday because she knows very little of the subject matters she engages herself in.
Naomi Klein... instead of going in front of Washington audiences, how about you check out the operations yourself? I'll drive you up to Fort Mac. You're talking out of your ass.
God I`m so happy at least someone has an idea of wtf is going on. This women is a racist nazi if you hear her ideas on civil rights. Her followers are destroying the west.
I really hate this women because she makes mental midgets out of her supporters. Its like a disease she is spreading across the land. Our society is becoming more dumb ed down by the day and we have morons leading morons, convincing people that the truth is in more government protection and less freedom. WAKE UP YOU RACIST LIBTARD NAZI FASCISTS!!!
800+ oil spills to date by Enbridge's own records. 7x rare cancer rates found downstream of the tarsands. No liability for human health is worked into "deals". Billions in subsidies & tax breaks. Other countries are proving alternatives are profitable for both state and citizen. Alberta has sold 4000+ waivers of law. 2-4000 lbs of forest bed need to be "moved" for 1 barrel of oil. US biggest client- 360 000 barrels a DAY for war. 560 jobs!? 80% of CN oppose this Corp. pipe dream.
hmmm so Naomi Klein is for Saudi misogyny and oppression then is she? how is stringing together straw men arguments supposed to debunk the claim that Alberta oil sands are ethical? preaching to the mystics of muscle is she? I do say so.
@waynewin No, she probably knows that most of what she says is bullshit. She just counts on the fact that most of the little sheep that listen to her do not.
@rodneypopper666 I would never tell someone to listen to anyone who posts on Youtube or anyone who jumps on a soapbox on a street like this lady. Go read peer reviewed geoscience journals and listen to what the actual scientists are actually saying. Don't listen to what the media or Al Gore is telling you they are saying, do read what they are ACTUALLY saying in their scientific studies. Those journals are where you will get real information, not on Youtube and not from Naomi.
@Stiletos Sounds like you are not aware of the amount of natural gas consumed just to mine this crap. Never mind the water used and the heavy metals leeching back into the Athabaska Basin. Your scientific journals are bought and paid for...Shill.
Look in your journals for rates of rare cancers among indiginous peoples downriver.
@rodneypopper666 I know how much natural gas is consumed to create the steam to seperate the bitumen from the sands. Do "you" know how much electricity is created by that natural gas as a byproduct of tar sand extraction and is put onto the electricty grid for Alberta? Are you aware that the Suncore and Syncrude oil sand projects create alot of the electricity that is put onto the grid to power your lights, your computer, and your electric car you plug in each night?
This video would play well to a bunch of grade 3 kids or, American city people who think the world looks like what they see on TV.
The Tar sands were on top of the ground in many cases before they were harvested. Rain and snow melt washed this into the rivers and streams for centuries before mankind even showed up there.
I walked that virgin land of scrub bush, bald patches of shale and black flies.
This lady is making a name for herself hitting all the well known hot spots most of which BS
@waynewin That wasn't my question to him, my question was did he have any proof that IRAN or SAUDI ARABIA are funding the oppositon groups.
Also the fact of the matter is Big US oil owns the sands already so the fact is that they have very little interests in stalling the Gateway because they get their money no matter what.
@waynewin You're assuming that I think we won't have to use oil. I'm not advocating we just stop oil production completely, but we should be doing all we can to switch to more sustainable energy sources. Not only for the climate, but because oil is not an unlimited resource. The energy sector is switching to harder methods of extracting oil (and natural gas) because there's less oil that we can just pump out of the ground.
@waynewin Your quote from the Globe and Mail (0.001 of the global greenhouse gas emissions) is a pointless statistic when not contrasted. Does this mean there aren't better ways we should be producing our energy?
And the comparison to the production of other heavy crude oils does not put the tar sands in a favorable light, in my opinion.
Try pouring oil on the road. turns road that looks a lot like tar sand, slows down traffic, tracks all over, makes an in your face statement that finds its self on shoes, everywhere.
I wonder if some of these crazy regimes like Iran and Saudi are giving money to these people like Klein. Lord knows they have hundreds of billions at stake in shutting down the Oil from Canada. I guess after they get all our money, and we're of no use to them, they'll have the means to kill us.
@52tincup they must think we won't use oil if this is blocked, who are they kidding. its like the folks that stop child labor in some countries and forget that was what was feeding their families. she has no solutions only objections.
@52tincup When have either of those countries ever threatened Canada directly? And further do you have any actual you know proof to support you assertion that they are funding these oposition groups?
And Klein is getting richer (she's already rich) off being morally superior to us slugs who have to head off to work everday in our current economy. Those of us lucky enough to have jobs anyway. Ms. Klein, how about giving all your money away to those who can't find work because of people like you ? Or better yet, get working on a solution if you have such a problem with oil. You are a hypocrite.
@52tincup Watch The Documentary "Oil" and learn about oligarchy economics . The tailings ponds are getting pretty full I would imagine . At full production Great Bear and Slave Lake will be toxic , Athabasca is totally fucked and the Mackenzie River will transport toxic shit to the Arctic . If you have kids tell them what they and their children
get to inherit . I sympathize with your statement but destroying the North , and Canada's water, that's a sad fucking thing .
Klein is completely irrelivant. She only brings complains and never solutions. Iran is pouring billions into nuclear weapons and are threatening to block 1/3 of the world's oil by blocking the Staight of Hormuz. Sure, let shut down Canadian Oil and make Iran more powerful. Good thinking Klein.
@MrWildECoyote1 You are the retarded one I said on a pro rata basis that means amount of carbon emissions versus size of population plus all the external mining around the world owned by Canadian mining corps makes Canada the number one
I'm non of what you`re asking. I just greatly dislike the campaign of mis-information that these people run. Like I said, she can and does say anything she wants with no accoutability. Some of these people admit that they play loose with the truth for what they think is the greater good. 3 times the carbon emissions as conventional oil is a blatant lie. If it was as bad as they say, Wood Buffalo would be like LA and it nowhere close to that.
@MrWildECoyote1 where does your hatred come from and what use does it serve? you're no more useful than glenn beck. wake up and serve your country by educating yourself.
While the Oil industry is closely regulated and everything they say is scutinized, the Enviros are not regulated and they can say anything they want. So, they are running a campaign of mis-information full of blatant lies. Righ Noami ? You are a liar and that's all you are.
Naomi Klein has no accountability because her crazy idealogy will never be implemented. She`s just another rich socialist telling everyone else how to live. And Naomi, coal emits more carbon than the ``Tar Sands`so why don`t you go bother them for a while and let the rest of us get a few scraps in the way of jobs. Such a hypocrite just like your father in-law Stephen Lewis.
Canada is more ethical because the oil industry is regulated and transparent. All data in Canada is public info, even the damning data on spills, flaring, etc. Data from OPEC? Estimated. Environmental regulations in Alberta? Toughest in Canada. In OPEC? There are none. Union membership, Aboriginal involvement and employment, gender equal opportunities, high incomes, profit sharing, royalties...yes for the oilsands. OPEC? Take a guess Naomi. That is how they are ethical. Is oil production and re
@twelvefootdavis I think you should get your facts straight. The AB government is not as transparent as you think. The continue to lie about everything from the effects on the environment to the actual impact on the First Nations communities down the river. Do some research.
Debunks? Hardly. Typical speech delivered to well meaning (but so ignorant) protesters. She speaks on oil sands like she knows about them, but fancy left wing Torontonians know nothing about the oil sands. Oil sands oil 108g/MJ CO2 released. Conventional oil 93g/MJ released. Conventional oil being refined in the US=53%, the rest is heavy from California, Canada, and OPEC countries, all of which release the same amount of CO2 intensity (if not more).
Ok this woman had a bad bleach job on her hair made by petrochemicals. She is wearing bad taste sun glasses made by petrol chemicals. And I suspect she did not ride her bicycle to DC but took a vehicle powered by petrol chemicals.
I am born and raised in Canada. Our oil is ethical, abundant and secure. Naomi Klein is would be stoned if she lived in many of the oil exporter countries she is protecting by dishing Canada's ethical oil.
All in all very poorly structured speech, shows absolutely no intelligence on the subject of the oilsands. By the way it's oilsand not tar sand. Maybe she should spend more time building a contraption that will harness the tidal energy around the world, rather than wasting your time bashing them. Once again walk or ride a bike. Till then we are ALL to blame for the oilsands.
Also, how bad was the bp oil spill? Is it better to do that? And how much energy is used transporting the oil back to USA??? Saudi is very POORLY regulated country also...they spill oil aaaalllll the time. Nobody knows it tho. The keystone XL will create jobs and help bring more troops home. USA won't have to depend on foreign oil anymore. I think it's a good thing.
It is ethical because nobody dies up here. Innocent civilians die, innocent children die in the middle east. People need to know the good things they are doing, this is one of those situations on how the good out weighs the bad. This chick probly hasn't ever been here before...I wonder if she rides a bike?? Or walks everywhere she goes??
Listen to this dumbass ramble on...doesn't state any facts at all. Just blames the oilsands for all the worlds problems. Its what's keeping this country alive. I have a family to feed, there is no work where I come from. And it's good money. It is ethical oil, people die in the middle east over it, civilians die. Innocent children. Nobody dies here in Canada like that.
buy 'ethical oil'? I don't understand how it's ethical. Just because it's coming from Canada doesn't mean it's any less harmful to humans and the planet. It makes no sense to promote the destruction and exploitation your Northern neighbour's beautiful land instead of the land of the 'terrorists'. It may be the lesser of two evils but both 'ethical oil' and OPEC oil are destroying our planet. And then you call Naomi a socialist. Grow the fuck up you simple-minded waste of space.
If you think it is an environmental disaster now, what about when it increases 100x for the Keystone XL. The Lupicon Cree's 19 0f 21 stillbirths, 3x to 7x cancer rates, dead land and water... 20 years of litigation from our gov. when they asked for help... is a small window into our future.
= treason is an act against the current government not a person crusading (no matter how much good they are doing) =
Since you admit that - that the net good one does not change the definition of a word like "treason" - then you cannot come back later and say treason is either good or bad, because you just said the definition of the word is independent of good or bad.
= choose to use violence to get your point across =
Reality is much of the oil used in Canada comes from overseas because Canada has no energy security thanks to NAFTA and other trade agreements. Nice try "Ethical" oil...
Naomi Klein is a true patriotic hero and eco-soldier. Ungrateful scum who bash her and her heroic efforts deserve to be executed for treason. She is a truly intelligent well-informed (not misinformed) investigator of the truth behind the lies spouted by the big-government-loving fossil-fuel corporations and their rightwing conservaturd cults like the heartland institute.
Fucking anti-communist scum: get the fuck off this planet.
The USA needs to nuke the Canadian oil sands and nuke Saudi Arabia for their oppression of gays and women. Kill all the pro-fossil fuel fanatics. You are all traitors to the planet and the national security of each nation.
True radicals support War for the Environment, War Against Manmade Climate Change, and War for Solar and Wind Power.
@mphello Violence fixes everything, I guess??? So are you going to use solar powered nukes because I believe they use fossil fuels to propel them to their destination. And for the rest of your war bullets emit carbon when fired so you would increase your carbon foot print right there, and tanks and explosive you guessed it them too. I think you should think before typing. I think that the "nukes" are a far worse eco disaster than any tar sand extraction. You hurt your own cause when you post.
Also treason is an act against the current government not a person crusading (no matter how much good they are doing) for the environment. And who calls it the "USA". Also if you choose to use violence to get your point across then you are the one who would become the oppressor just a point to ponder.

this is unethical because it uses the hardship of the Saudi women for their own special interest, in reality whoever behind this does not give a crap about Saudi women, they just want people to buy sand oil from their company even though it's 10 times more expesive.
@ronkon024 No its not. Even if nobody bought a single drop of oil from Saudi Arabia human rights issues would not be solved. That is a cultural issue that has nothing to do with the economy. That's like saying you don't eat chinese food because they mistreat Tibetans.
But if nobody ever bought tar sand oil, the environmental issue would be solved.
@ronkon024 Oh really? Because Suncor was just in Syria taking a photo with their leadership and making deals. You're supporting one of the biggest genocides right now. Good job!
I'd take my oil from Canada anyday over OPEC oil. The majority of OPEC countries are human rights violaters.Regimes that use that money to fund wars and terrorism.Dirty ,bloody oil !!! This woman thinks she knows more than the scientists and so , she is nothing but a wing nut. Check out the ethical oil website, educate yourselves.
cliflejeune, you are a communist traitor and the scum of the Earth. Go move to North Korea and get the hell out of our country. Take your global village and stuff it. We live in Canada, not some damn global village. Canada.
This woman is a silver-spoon socialist........a complete idiot.
You have a choice. Buy Canadian oil.....or by it from Saudi Arabia. Venezuela. Nigeria. Iran. In any one of those countries this woman would not be allowed to speak against gov't policy.....in some of them she would not be allowed out of the house without a male relative to escort her, and then she would have to wear her own personal tent.
Oil is NOT going away quickly......... the choice is yours.
@hamm172 Use your common sense. We are living in a 6-mile high garage (our earths oxygen tent) and we are pumping it full of carbon gases 24/7. Sounds suicidal to me. How many more FACTS do you need than the unprecedented extremes of temperatures, fires, floods, droughts, tornadoes this past year? This is the ONLY HOME any of us has - and, like addicts, we are destroying it while remaining in denial of simple truths! Follow the MONEY - who are the advertisers/backers of media & politics?
I don't care about any arguments for or against canada's oil.
Trying to make money using human right abuses is unethical. If they sold solar power or hydro-electricity, it would still be a bloody disgrace. This should be condemned, plain and simple.
@motion474 You'll never hear Ezra Levant calling for the public torture and death of the people with whom he disagrees. Way to be an example of the violent thuggery he likes to mischaracterize the left as.
The ironic thing is that most left wing groups boycott companies at the drop of a hat for transgressions orders of magnitude less severe than what passes off as mundane in traditional oil-supplying regions. Imagine the uproar if Coca-Cola for example, openly criminalized homosexuals, forbade its women employees from driving without their husbands, and oppressed Pepsi drinkers with physical violence and death. But for some reason, when its an anti-western source its permissible.
"...a hole in the world that has yet to heal" -- wow, so dramatic. i don't like it when the environment is damaged and it should be preserved but let's be honest, is it really better to get oil from countries that would rather see our way of life destroyed? i think somewhere in between would be better.
oil companies need to be more environmentally responsible and the leftist bleeding hearts need more fibre in their diet.
No, it is better that we develop domestic sources of renewable energy. Electric vehicles are much, much cheaper and less energy intensive to run already. Now, imagine if the energy that we got from our house hold outlets was from solar and wind? Google "Aqua Caliente Solar Project". This is one of dozens of solar plants that will be on-line within 18 months. This one broke ground four months ago.
Asking the Oil Companies to be more environmentally responsible is like asking Phillip Morris to become more health conscious. Exactly where they make their money is by externalizing the costs of the environmental impacts of the product they sell.
Supporting the tar sands is just as bad, worse then supporting the Saudi Arabian government. But, wherever it comes from, when we burn it, it still ends up sending carbon into the atmosphere and toxic chemicals into the air we breathe. We need to leave the coal, oil, tar sands, and uranium in the ground and use renewable energy, and much less of it. The corporatist war criminal Obama, sending his polluting armies to kill/destroy all over the globe, is not going to help anymore than Harper.
Last I looked, it is the same oil companies with their fingers in every oil field on the planet, regardless of what kind of government is in power. Their coffers are overflowing and the whole world suffers from the pollution caused by petrochemicals. The argument that tar sands oil is more "ethical" than other oil extracted from authoritarian countries is ridiculous. When has the type of government in power ever had any effect on where multinationals do business?
@58Champ "When has the type of government in power ever had any effect on where multinationals do business". Pretty much *everything* to do with environmental regulation and labour regulation. Perhaps you seem to think countries in which leaders allegedly win every election for decades on end perform these tasks with much more accountability and transparency than Canada? interesting.
@rbairos1 I'm not sure what your point is. My point is that multinationals have only one interest: profit. They will do business where ever they can make money. Ethics has nothing to do with their decisions. Profits are made on both the oil sands and oil fields in autocratic countries. The ethical argument is simply a way of deflecting criticism of the environmental effects of the rape of northern Alberta. In more conventional oil fields, the rhetoric is always about jobs.
DAMASCUS SYRIA–OLDEST CITY,NEVER BEEN DESTROYED(ISAIAH 17:1)ISRAEL DIVIDED(JOEL 4:1-4)JESUS SAID,HIS 2ND COMING,IF U SEE DMASCUS DSTROYED & SRAEL DVIDED.IF U THINK QUAKES R COMMON THN BELIEVE THESE 2 PROPHECIES,THESE R IN THE NEWS NOW.JOHN 12:25-26 ANYONE WHO LOVES THEIR LIFE WILL LOSE IT,WHLE ANYONE WHO HATES THEIR LIFE N THIS WORLD WILL KEEP IT FOR ETRNAL LIFE.26 WHOEVER SERVS ME MUST FOLLOW ME& WHRE I AM,MY SERVANT ALSO WILL BE.MY FATHER WILL HONOR THE ONE WHO SERVES ME.HELL IS REAL.REPENT!
If this chick wants to be taken seriously she should take off the glasses and dress like someone who knows what they're talking about. Friggin hippies.
@Grbgman yeah man, because what you wear is totally a smite on who you really are! all those dumb whores who wear tank tops with no bra, should all burn in Hell too!
Unless people are willing to sacrifice their western way of living, please stop with this foolishness on the tar sands. Unfortunately, green energy is not going to catch up with oil and gas for a VERY long time.
So unless u want to give up your big 4 bedroom house in the suburbs with your 2 hatchbacks and 1 SUV that you drive to work everyday, just enjoy what you have got.
Tar sand oil may not be ethical, but its a lot better than funding the Middle-Eastern Wahabbis in the Arabian gulf.
@mariusbleek The tar sands has basically ruined the area that it's in. It's also funding USA so what is in that? Middle east is corrupt and full of muslim fundamentalists, USA is corrupt and full of Christian fundamentalists.
The stuff Canada sends them has to purchase it back (since it's refined there) at a high rate. And if everything were real fair trade, it would all be expensive. Instead no knows were not paying for hidden costs.
@mariusbleek hahaha - We have a 24x60 mobile home and 2 Priuses! We live what we preach. Solar energy IS at grid parity with fossil fuels and nukes - in fact if you add up the health costs, the waste storage costs, the $38 B in loan guarantees that Wall Street thinks are too risky to finance, added electric bills, transportation costs.....fossil fuels and nuclear are way more expensive! You can save $50 a month in a small home with the cheapest solar for hot water! Build your own for $150.
@diamondtel If history has taught us anything, it's that humans will not alter their ways until imminent doom is staring them right back in the face. Fossil fuel coporations are currently too influential for politicians to fully legislate against. They have too much to barter with. I'm confident that people in a North American setting (Europe has made inroads towards more green energy reliance) wont change their ways until we reach 'peak oil'. By then it'll be so expensive that we need 2 change.
This lady is really full of herself. It's ethical because unlike Middle East Oil, in Canada, the raping and murder of women is punishable, homosexuals are not publicely executed simply for who they love and there is no genocide. When you buy oil from the middle east, the money goes into regimes and dictators that are not ethical. It goes to support islamacism, terrorism, rape, genocide and murder. When you buy from Canada you support an economy that believes in individual rights & freedoms
@AirGirlful ISLAMACISM?! LOL now you're full of yourself! There is nothing wrong with Islam. It's fundamentalists that do all of what you say. And the money does not fuel them! It's part of the culture and it never cost anyone to have a gathering and to stone someone to death or to hang a person. The middle east is corrupt (not to mention it's BS, oil doesn't come from all of Middle east). RIGHTS AND WHAT?! Canada is no better!
@AirGirlful Harper will gladly get rid of gays since he's a conservative Christian himself. Not to mention all of what he said and has done that supports that notion. How about abortion? He cut funds to planned parenthood. Genocide? LOL NATIVE AMERICANS. Canada is not all it's cracked up to be. Don't believe me? ASK ANY........ANY social worker that works in the country. Sure there's less of chance to be killed but that's not saying much. There's very little rights and freedoms.
@finnsia Wherever you are from, it sure as fuck isn't canada. 99% of what you just said there is grade A bullshit. Please don't smear my country's name. No, it is'nt perfect, but its sure a fuckuvalot nicer than most other places.
I'd like to see Naomi Klein spend one winter in Wood Buffalo and see if she still thinks its worth saving. That place was a frozen shit hole before the tar sands and it'll be a frozen shit hole long after they are gone.
@Grbgman Lovely patriotism you've got there but you're acting like a pathetic American who is blinded what what's going on. IT WILL BE MY CAREER to work with those that have fallen through the cracks in CANADA. I can easily prove and support all my statements upon request. I will tell you again so instead of denying what I say immediately by saying "nu uhhhhhhh", just ask ANY social worker of all the problems with the country.
@Grbgman after the tar sands are gone, which will be 100+ years from now, there will be nothing left, no life no birds, no people... our government is offensive, if you love canada you need to wake the fuck up and not sit on your laurels and the achivments of your forfathers, thats what happend to America and now look at it...
@2001Horatio Just sayin its easy to pass judgment on something you know nothing about. Who gives shit about trillion dollar operation way out in the middle of nowhere alberta. Not one of you gave a rats ass about Fort McMurray or the environment there before you found out what they were doing, and i bet a greater number of you never even went there to see for yourselves if what this crazy bitch, and others like her, is sayin is true.
@Grbgman Also: I see no evidence that she is crazy and I can't think of any logical reason why she would lie about this (motive?). Now her opposition has motive.
@phoboskitty I'm canadian and thank you for your voice!, big oil controls the agenda and the size of the land destroyed will be larger than texas! it will destroy the entire water table in the north, to destroy our heritage for generations is unforgivealbe!!
@finnsia Harper wants to get rid of gays, and is responsible for native genocide? On what planet did you receive this information? Have you any idea how much per-capita funding our First Nations citizens get? Their problems have absolutely nothing to do with lack of government support, but everything to do with lack of internal accountability at this point in history, something which politicians are afraid to touch with a ten foot pole. Any group would suffer the same fate of corruption.
@rbairos1 "When elected Prime Minister at the next election, we will bring in legislation that defines marriage as the union between one man and one woman." - Harper
The government in which Harper is in charge of is responsible for native genocide. I never said its about support but what they do with the money and where it goes to and treatment. For example, they have major problems with tuberculosis but they don't get any support.
@finnsia Very true Harper has a troubling past of pandering to Christian voting groups. But theres a slight difference to pushing bigoted marriage platforms and wanting to get rid of gay people. Secondly the government has given billions to First Nation citizens. That is hardly an act of genocide. If you want to argue that giving billions to a people with no expectation of accountability is highly destructive, I'll agree with you there. However thats been going on long before Harper...
@rbairos1 Yes it has been going long before Harper but that doesn't dismiss him what goes on now. as for the billions of "first nation citizens". That's just silly. There's 33 million citizens in Canada in total! The amount you're talking about is the amount of people there is on Earth in total! There's very few natives left, you very well know they're dying out (or being mixed). Their culture is dying and so are they. Areas where the reservations are or a native community is has
@finnsia Thanks for the lesson, but read more carefully. I never said there are 'billions' of First nation citizens. Rather 'billions' have been given to First Nations in terms of welfare benefits and general subsidies. The severe poverty, depression and societal breakdown is *not* from a lack of funding, but rather intergenerational issues from previous injustices *AS WELL* as a complete non-accountability for current funds, fostering massive corruption from within.
@finnsia In fact, claiming Harper is committing genocide because even *MORE* money is not being blindly dropped into the hands of corrupt First Nation leadership is adding fuel to the fire. However there is no chance in heck white politicians can discuss this without being branded as racist imperialists. Fortunately there is no shortage of impoverished First Nation citizens calling out for the same reform. Lookup user jessica1968ns for a personal account. (or just blame harper as youre doing.)
@rbairos1 I won't look at that user for a credible account when the fact that there are plenty of natives that are living in poverty. You're starting to sound like an apologist for Harper especially after you said there are billions of natives, nevermind that its impossible but that can't even be confused with millions since that isn't true either. Harper is in power for a while now, yet nothing has been done, because it occured in the past doesn't relieve him of his responsibility.
@jbairos1 I never said that corruption isn't a problem. And I did see that user now but at first I thought it was a regular commentator not a vlogger. However corruption isn't the only problem when their needs are ignored. I'll take your word for it that the government is throwing money at them to solve their problems since I don't have any sources of the finances. Its crystal clear that there is a plethora of social problems as well.
@jbairos1 I feel very displeased with your apologetic view of Harper. If you have a corporation and you pay your workers and they don't do anything, does that mean it's their problem and they should deal with it? No. Instead of throwing money, everything should be regulated. Throwing money never fixed problems. Natives are also not culturally accepted, not to mention theres health care, unemployment and education. And to quote you "Seriously, look into the issues instead of cheerleading/bashing"
@finnsia Hey finnsia. Sorry replied logged into someone else's account instead of my own by accident. I hope at least you're beginning to see the issue is not Harper causing 'genocide' simply by financially ignoring First Nation citizens. For the record, the conservatives in concert with different First Nation groups *do* want reform and accountability in terms of First Nation leadership, but (usually white liberals) denounce those requirements as racist imperialism, believe it or not. cheers
@rbairos1 I'm still doubtful but you were right to call me on the word "causing". He is continuing. But remember that example I said before with the CEO and the corrupt workers. Harper is in charge therefore it's his responsibillity. If it was mentioned in the media they would've been punished and fired like how Rob Ford got rid of the people on the housing board.
@finnsia What would you have Harper do? Dole out more cash? Or perhaps, open dialogs about more accountability in the First Nation leadership? Guess which one gets more votes, and guess which one has been met with calls of imperialist racism? You hear a story about how a F.N community has poor access to drinking water and you think "Harper is hording cash and causing genocide!", like a left wing pamphlet. Let's hope you understand some underlying causes now. Cheers.
@finnsia " I feel very displeased with your apologetic view of Harper." Why do I get the feeling you have no idea exactly what the conservatives have done/pushed for relative to previous Canadian governments?
"Natives are also not culturally accepted, not to mention theres health care, unemployment and education.
Those are pretty much all symptoms of the same problem. Why has my entire family generated into Canada, poor, uneducated and in debt one generation ago now successful?
@rbairos1 I have no idea why. It could be because of ethnicity, skin color, skills already acquired, determination, opportunity, fortunate chance among with a plethora of other reasons. People are and never were in the state that they currently are because of the doings of the self.
In answer to your question, my family were non english speaking, 4th grade educated, in-debt, unskilled general labourers, though my east indian friends in a similar situation fared even better. "People are and never were in the state that they currently are because of the doings of the self."
If that were true no one would get out of bed in the morning.
@rbairos1 What I basically meant was that all the skills aquired as well as possesions, wants, needs and character is the result of an individuals past. (that is a very important point) As for your family, how is it that one immigrates with debt? And with no education (since a 4th grade counts as squat here). Assuming you immigrated, without having to start a business that's self dependent how else could they have become successful?
@finnsia You immigrate with debt to pay the flight. Generally towards another member of the community you're a part of. Without education, in the case of my parents you start by working seven days a week in construction and textile factories, for pretty much ever. You keep strong family ties so that grandparents, etc share in the child rearing. You instil a *very strong* work ethic and value of education to your children and guide them to better paying careers. A ton of work, but doable.
@finnsia " Assuming you immigrated, without having to start a business that's self dependent how else could they have become successful?" To further answer your question: Hard work, hard work, hard work. I could count the number of times I went to a movie theatre on one hand. We didnt buy magazines, comics, or any other luxury. Like most recent immigrants, everything was from a thrift shop and/or repaired. Its not about free government bailouts, its about self determination.
@rbairos1 Since we're still on the topic of poverty, keep in mind that what you said is different from the case of the natives or any other ethnicity thats a minority. Since people who are in poverty stay in poverty. Keep in mind they also have another mind set than of you and I that could keep them in their place.
@rbairos1 It's great to hear that you're now successful, though I would like it for us to agree upon something. Throwing money at matters won't get the natives anywhere, since it could create more corruption but what else could be done? Regulation? You said earlier that if he regulates then he would be called an imperialist and a racist. So what about holding those who are corrupt as accountable for their actions?
@finnsia That would mean holding native leaders accountable. Thats not something the Government of Canada has the political will to do. It has to start from within. The good news is, there seems to be growing discontent among F.N citizens with their leadership's accountability which is a good sign. Cheers.
Pretty dumb shit going on. Get that oil processed and rolling to the pumps. Celebrities are stupid people and are no different than a monkey at the zoo. Frik'n retards.
@3:33 - This is why celebrities have no place in government. The majority of Canadians do not care about climate change, if the majority did, then we would not be in a conservative majority. If it was an issue that the majority cared for, this would not be the case.
please stop speaking from ignorance and presenting it as education.
Your understanding of this issue is simplistic and displays your serious lack of formal education.

Those journals are where you will get real information, not on Youtube and not from Naomi.

For one, the oft-used term “tar sands’” is incorrect. Tar
originates from distilling coal (Merriam-Webster, 2011).
Canada’s oil comes from clay sand, through two processes
that are cleaner than distilling coal or what is now labeled as “Clean Coal” lol…

MJH505060 1 month ago
@waynewin You're assuming that I think we won't have to use oil. I'm not advocating we just stop oil production completely, but we should be doing all we can to switch to more sustainable energy sources. Not only for the climate, but because oil is not an unlimited resource. The energy sector is switching to harder methods of extracting oil (and natural gas) because there's less oil that we can just pump out of the ground.
okanagansage 1 month ago 8
@waynewin Your quote from the Globe and Mail (0.001 of the global greenhouse gas emissions) is a pointless statistic when not contrasted. Does this mean there aren't better ways we should be producing our energy?
And the comparison to the production of other heavy crude oils does not put the tar sands in a favorable light, in my opinion.

58Champ 6 months ago
@58Champ "When has the type of government in power ever had any effect on where multinationals do business". Pretty much *everything* to do with environmental regulation and labour regulation. Perhaps you seem to think countries in which leaders allegedly win every election for decades on end perform these tasks with much more accountability and transparency than Canada? interesting.
rbairos1 5 months ago
@rbairos1 I'm not sure what your point is. My point is that multinationals have only one interest: profit. They will do business where ever they can make money. Ethics has nothing to do with their decisions. Profits are made on both the oil sands and oil fields in autocratic countries. The ethical argument is simply a way of deflecting criticism of the environmental effects of the rape of northern Alberta. In more conventional oil fields, the rhetoric is always about jobs.

AirGirlful 6 months ago
@AirGirlful ISLAMACISM?! LOL now you're full of yourself! There is nothing wrong with Islam. It's fundamentalists that do all of what you say. And the money does not fuel them! It's part of the culture and it never cost anyone to have a gathering and to stone someone to death or to hang a person. The middle east is corrupt (not to mention it's BS, oil doesn't come from all of Middle east). RIGHTS AND WHAT?! Canada is no better!
finnsia 6 months ago
@AirGirlful Harper will gladly get rid of gays since he's a conservative Christian himself. Not to mention all of what he said and has done that supports that notion. How about abortion? He cut funds to planned parenthood. Genocide? LOL NATIVE AMERICANS. Canada is not all it's cracked up to be. Don't believe me? ASK ANY........ANY social worker that works in the country. Sure there's less of chance to be killed but that's not saying much. There's very little rights and freedoms.
finnsia 6 months ago

I will tell you again so instead of denying what I say immediately by saying "nu uhhhhhhh", just ask ANY social worker of all the problems with the country.
finnsia 6 months ago
@Grbgman after the tar sands are gone, which will be 100+ years from now, there will be nothing left, no life no birds, no people... our government is offensive, if you love canada you need to wake the fuck up and not sit on your laurels and the achivments of your forfathers, thats what happend to America and now look at it...

Not one of you gave a rats ass about Fort McMurray or the environment there before you found out what they were doing, and i bet a greater number of you never even went there to see for yourselves if what this crazy bitch, and others like her, is sayin is true.

Any group would suffer the same fate of corruption.
rbairos1 5 months ago
@rbairos1 "When elected Prime Minister at the next election, we will bring in legislation that defines marriage as the union between one man and one woman." - Harper
The government in which Harper is in charge of is responsible for native genocide. I never said its about support but what they do with the money and where it goes to and treatment. For example, they have major problems with tuberculosis but they don't get any support.
finnsia 5 months ago
@finnsia Very true Harper has a troubling past of pandering to Christian voting groups. But theres a slight difference to pushing bigoted marriage platforms and wanting to get rid of gay people. Secondly the government has given billions to First Nation citizens. That is hardly an act of genocide. If you want to argue that giving billions to a people with no expectation of accountability is highly destructive, I'll agree with you there. However thats been going on long before Harper...
rbairos1 5 months ago
@rbairos1 Yes it has been going long before Harper but that doesn't dismiss him what goes on now. as for the billions of "first nation citizens". That's just silly. There's 33 million citizens in Canada in total! The amount you're talking about is the amount of people there is on Earth in total! There's very few natives left, you very well know they're dying out (or being mixed). Their culture is dying and so are they. Areas where the reservations are or a native community is has
finnsia 5 months ago
@finnsia Thanks for the lesson, but read more carefully. I never said there are 'billions' of First nation citizens. Rather 'billions' have been given to First Nations in terms of welfare benefits and general subsidies. The severe poverty, depression and societal breakdown is *not* from a lack of funding, but rather intergenerational issues from previous injustices *AS WELL* as a complete non-accountability for current funds, fostering massive corruption from within.
rbairos1 5 months ago
@finnsia In fact, claiming Harper is committing genocide because even *MORE* money is not being blindly dropped into the hands of corrupt First Nation leadership is adding fuel to the fire. However there is no chance in heck white politicians can discuss this without being branded as racist imperialists. Fortunately there is no shortage of impoverished First Nation citizens calling out for the same reform. Lookup user jessica1968ns for a personal account. (or just blame harper as youre doing.)
rbairos1 5 months ago

Its crystal clear that there is a plethora of social problems as well.
finnsia 5 months ago
@jbairos1 I feel very displeased with your apologetic view of Harper. If you have a corporation and you pay your workers and they don't do anything, does that mean it's their problem and they should deal with it? No. Instead of throwing money, everything should be regulated. Throwing money never fixed problems. Natives are also not culturally accepted, not to mention theres health care, unemployment and education. And to quote you "Seriously, look into the issues instead of cheerleading/bashing"
finnsia 5 months ago
@finnsia Hey finnsia. Sorry replied logged into someone else's account instead of my own by accident. I hope at least you're beginning to see the issue is not Harper causing 'genocide' simply by financially ignoring First Nation citizens. For the record, the conservatives in concert with different First Nation groups *do* want reform and accountability in terms of First Nation leadership, but (usually white liberals) denounce those requirements as racist imperialism, believe it or not. cheers
rbairos1 5 months ago
@rbairos1 I'm still doubtful but you were right to call me on the word "causing". He is continuing. But remember that example I said before with the CEO and the corrupt workers. Harper is in charge therefore it's his responsibillity. If it was mentioned in the media they would've been punished and fired like how Rob Ford got rid of the people on the housing board.
finnsia 5 months ago
@finnsia What would you have Harper do? Dole out more cash? Or perhaps, open dialogs about more accountability in the First Nation leadership? Guess which one gets more votes, and guess which one has been met with calls of imperialist racism? You hear a story about how a F.N community has poor access to drinking water and you think "Harper is hording cash and causing genocide!", like a left wing pamphlet. Let's hope you understand some underlying causes now. Cheers.

@finnsia "Yes but why must those 2 be the options?" Why do you assume increase welfare payments will help build a community?
rbairos1 5 months ago
@finnsia " I feel very displeased with your apologetic view of Harper." Why do I get the feeling you have no idea exactly what the conservatives have done/pushed for relative to previous Canadian governments?
"Natives are also not culturally accepted, not to mention theres health care, unemployment and education.
Those are pretty much all symptoms of the same problem. Why has my entire family generated into Canada, poor, uneducated and in debt one generation ago now successful?
rbairos1 5 months ago
@rbairos1 I have no idea, why?
finnsia 5 months ago
@finnsia To start with, absolutely nothing to do with the level of funding we received.
rbairos1 5 months ago
@rbairos1 I have no idea why. It could be because of ethnicity, skin color, skills already acquired, determination, opportunity, fortunate chance among with a plethora of other reasons. People are and never were in the state that they currently are because of the doings of the self.
finnsia 5 months ago
@finnsia
In answer to your question, my family were non english speaking, 4th grade educated, in-debt, unskilled general labourers, though my east indian friends in a similar situation fared even better. "People are and never were in the state that they currently are because of the doings of the self."
If that were true no one would get out of bed in the morning.
rbairos1 5 months ago
@rbairos1 What I basically meant was that all the skills aquired as well as possesions, wants, needs and character is the result of an individuals past. (that is a very important point) As for your family, how is it that one immigrates with debt? And with no education (since a 4th grade counts as squat here). Assuming you immigrated, without having to start a business that's self dependent how else could they have become successful?
finnsia 5 months ago
@finnsia You immigrate with debt to pay the flight. Generally towards another member of the community you're a part of. Without education, in the case of my parents you start by working seven days a week in construction and textile factories, for pretty much ever. You keep strong family ties so that grandparents, etc share in the child rearing. You instil a *very strong* work ethic and value of education to your children and guide them to better paying careers. A ton of work, but doable.
rbairos1 5 months ago
@finnsia " Assuming you immigrated, without having to start a business that's self dependent how else could they have become successful?" To further answer your question: Hard work, hard work, hard work. I could count the number of times I went to a movie theatre on one hand. We didnt buy magazines, comics, or any other luxury. Like most recent immigrants, everything was from a thrift shop and/or repaired. Its not about free government bailouts, its about self determination.
rbairos1 5 months ago
@rbairos1 Since we're still on the topic of poverty, keep in mind that what you said is different from the case of the natives or any other ethnicity thats a minority. Since people who are in poverty stay in poverty. Keep in mind they also have another mind set than of you and I that could keep them in their place.
finnsia 5 months ago
@finnsia
"Since people who are in poverty stay in poverty"
My family was in real poverty for generations before the opportunity to move to Canada.
" Keep in mind they also have another mind set than of you and I that could keep them in their place."
Exactly. No level of welfare will change that. In fact, it always adds to it, imo.
rbairos1 5 months ago
@rbairos1 It's great to hear that you're now successful, though I would like it for us to agree upon something. Throwing money at matters won't get the natives anywhere, since it could create more corruption but what else could be done? Regulation? You said earlier that if he regulates then he would be called an imperialist and a racist. So what about holding those who are corrupt as accountable for their actions?
finnsia 5 months ago
@finnsia That would mean holding native leaders accountable. Thats not something the Government of Canada has the political will to do. It has to start from within. The good news is, there seems to be growing discontent among F.N citizens with their leadership's accountability which is a good sign. Cheers.
rbairos1 5 months ago
@rbairos1 Native leaders? I forgot the name but isn't there a middle man who deals with the government and the natives?

TheBilliebobsmith 6 months ago
@3:33 - This is why celebrities have no place in government. The majority of Canadians do not care about climate change, if the majority did, then we would not be in a conservative majority. If it was an issue that the majority cared for, this would not be the case.
please stop speaking from ignorance and presenting it as education.
