This music is very similar to Javanese Gamelan music (java is now Indonesia). It's just different from western music and most people fear what is different/ beyond their understanding).

Thanks for the upload! Coupled with watching Stephen King's 'It', this song gave me plenty of nightmares as a child. It's good to remember those raw feelings of terror and mystery again. And, I think this game had one of the best soundtracks in video game history. Many memorable tunes here.

I was at a friends house while his older brother played this game when I was like 10, and I couldn't even be in the same room while this music played. I eventually got over it, and creepy stuff like this is fun for me, but back then it was very hard to listen to. This one and the themes that play before and during the Dark Lich fight

Yes, Balinese music must have been an influence for this composer. The Dark Elf Theme has similar parts to another the Balinese "monkey chant".
