It's a skydiving rig, with a pd218, and a reserve. It was borrowed, so the fit wasn't great...and jumping in a t shirt...well, it wasn't my best track, but even with that cross, I got plenty of clearance from the wall. It was only 11 seconds.
You can't Base Jump from a Helicopter. Jumping out of a Helicopter with a parachute is called sky diving. BASE jumping, Is jumping from a Bridge, Antenna, Structure, or Earth, thus BASE.
joder yo me quiero tirar del salto angel gracias adios que vivo en venezuela y me queda serca jeejej es una ventaja les recomiendo que vallan a los roques is igual de fantastico
You better go and find another spot very soon to jump from because I am going to make sure that the venezuelan govertment prohibit this kind of activities in top of the fall...you can go and enjoy the view, look at the majestic view and do not harm. whoever is doing this they better stop
These jumps go back more than 25 years. I made my one visit and that's it. we brought our American money, provided jobs and income to the local people, and spent about 10 minutes at the top...walking from rock to rock from the helicopter. There was no damage to the "ecosystem". We paid for our permits to camp along the river, and we left no trash or any trace at the waterfall. Relax.
That camera angle makes it look like I'm just floating at the end...but at that point, I'm actually doing 100mph...falling around 160ft. per minute...no soft landing without a parachute.
THis music I found as a backing track on a copyright free disc for video productions. I don't have any idea who or what...but it worked for this 3.5 minute piece I created.
i gotta try that. was it tough to find fellow jumpers to go with? or difficult to find the helicopters that would take you to the top? had you had much experience before doing this?
this was my first "base" jump. But I had around 2700 jumps at that point. I was an organized event..by Tom Sanders, a skydiving videographer...he had all those cameras poised at 4 points. That's where the majority of the expense was...all the logistics with that helicopter too. They organize base jumping courses in Norway too...americans take groups out there. You need to have some skydiving experience...at least 250 or so jumps.
you're very kind. I did however require me to muster all the bravery I could...I was very nervous...but centered and mindful of what I need to do. I'd love to go back again one day...though that window has closed for now, courtesy of Mr. Hugo.
Yes, I was certainly scared..but I was breathing and I had come all that way...so there was no question I was going over the edge. It's the highest base jump out there, so I did actually have skydiving rig with a large main canopy, as well as a reserve canopy, so I could have properly deployed that if I had a drama.
Hi. The video focal length makes everything in focus, so though it looks like I'm getting down to the rocks, I've only fallen about 1200', and have another 2000' before I thump. The reserve is supposed to open in 300-500'. I often end up below 2000' when deploying out of big formation jumps. This is what makes Angel Falls such a good first base jump site...you have the added security of height and a reserve.
So were you using a twin-canopy BASE container like a sorcerer, or skydiving gear?
Got a bit nervous watching that jump, never jumped there but I like to track an awfully long way away on big walls if I can. Only ever done a few base jumps in my life thus far though, and those were in kjerag on one of the overhung sections - two tracking suit jumps and one in my PF shadow wingsuit.
i just love to watch it every day once, at least !!

Actually it isn't the highest. There are many bigger walls in Norway, Canada etc.... Biggest waterfall jump, yes.
Looks like a nice object just ditch that sketchy skydiving gear! ;-)
