I'm referring to the twin towers, which experienced castrophic collapse due to structural member defeat.

Can't compare the Madrid structure to the Twin Tower structure without seeing plans.

They are designed to withstand beyond the maximum of combustibles in an office burning.

An office Fire load is nothing compared to hundreds gallons of fuel not expected or allowed to be there.

This can happen to well-built buildings NOT designed to withstand jet impacts. They COULD be so designed, at tremendous expense.

@ robertgift. The twin towers WERE designed to take multiple hits from large aircraft, that's a fact. As for your insulation argument. Those steel beams were massive, steel conducts heat very well and the structure would quickly carry heat away from the source. The fires in the WTC were too short in duration and not hot enough to significantly weaken the steel, infact, someone was filmed in the opening the plane made. To suggest the temps were high is ludicrous.

The footage of the WTC1 & 2 does not even show a collapse, it shows a top to bottom explosion. Steel beams weighing tons do not collapse outwards against gravity. robert, ive just answered your question about what was possibly gained, but thats not the way investigations work is it? If Police find evidence of a crime, they investigate it. They do not discount the evidence just because they cant instantly discover the motive. Take Arson for another example, if the Fire Dept find evidence of Arson, they investigate the methods used first, they do not start looking for reasons or motives. That motives are looked at once you identify suspects.
