Hey E quick question. Im planning on attending Swift and was wondering if that qualcomm has electronic log? If so are you still required to keep a paper back up like you do or are you double checking what the computer is saying?
@tater259 hey :) yes … the qual has electronic logs. At first while you are training, they want you to learn both paper and elog. Although I am no longer required to keep the paper logs, I do it still… I do it because it keeps me on target with timing things, its a good backup just in case the computer crashes (which has happened) also tax purposes, and just because I like to log on paper :) keeps everything honest :) I suggest it !
Your videos are very good, and educational, didn`t drive for like 10 years now... thinking to go back to it, miss it a loot... thanks for posting... stay safe
@OP52RI - thx for the comment :) I am glad that you enjoyed the video.. I can understand how you could miss it… there are a lot of ups and downs, but you can't deny that the country is beautiful :) thx again -E
@gooruraw There are different ways... sometimes its a light that goes from red to green but most of the times, its a person who will come out and bang on your door or holler "DRIVER!!" haha ..
Good stuff, I'm soaking all this in like a sponge lol. I'm also in my first week at cdl school and learning driver's log and trip planning for the first time. I'm sure I'll be watching your vids again later after I get to the company and learn the qualcomm. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos they are awesome!
Wow, what a pile of time spent with qualcom for each trip. I guess that's the new way.
GPS is nice, but why doesn't Swift send their desired routing right to your own GPS? That seems like a waste of your time to have to re-check.
I can't believe that you can't run air, they don't give you APU's to keep you cool, and your only option is have a restless sleep starting and stopping the truck. Yikes. A 34 hour reset must drive you crazy.
How much take-home per month are you getting with Swift?
@ConLoco76 Re: the time spent on the Qual..yeah... its a lot but at 1st but the time ends up being quicker than you think. Re: the GPS, I only double check so I dont end up somewhere I shouldn't haha cause the GPS is nice, but its not perfect ya know. They are working on making the GPS to match the directions given when your dispatched, so that will be an improvement. Re: APU's .. yeah all I know is I'll be happy when its winter haha. Re: Take Home-1700-1900/mo so far (as solo)
Found you by accident, thanks for the helpful tips,I'm new to this, bout to try to get on with a company, every bit of info helps me to make a better decision!!
@balla4eva91 yeah all the swift trucks (company drivers) are being upgraded with new qualcomm's... the new quals go with the electronic logs, so the old qualcomm's are becoming obsolete. They are pretty cool and easy to use. I like computers so in the end I fell in love with it. Not to mention the nav is cool!
@mexmob thats cool bro no worries :) Im glad to help. I'll try and go over more Qualcomm and log book stuff down the road. Let me know if you have any questions ok - E
