Usually it looks like that if u take sections that are too big. If you take smaller sections like she did in the video you'll have e cooler braid :)

Take larger sections of hair and braid loosely to make a more relaxed look casual fishtail (also takes much less time). For layered hair, make the braid after washing hair when it is totally wet, then spray with hair spray. If you want the braid to be absolutely perfect and sleek, from totally wet hair, use plenty of wax then braid - no loose hairs will come out and it will look shiney and sleek all day.

Layers are hard, but you can still do it. I do it anyway and pin any layers back or stick ends into the braid that are sticking out.
