Glad I drive a GM....lol So how do you keep all the cuttings from entering the cylinder, when using the boring bar? You can't.... so now you have aluminum cuttings inside the cylinder causing all kinds of extra wear to the rings, piston, ring lands and even possible getting trapped between the valve and valve seat! ... nice job Ford.
@tt350chevelle - Yes you can....but it's not perfect solution....put a big dab of grease on the nose of the cutter and the grease will hopefully catch most of the cuttings!
I didn't even know this was a problem until this evening. Wife called. She was stranded after hearing a boom then a loud noise. I looked at it and thought the spark plug backed out and maybe damaged the last thread or two. No wonder I couldn't get it back in. NOW WHAT, play Russion roulette with the other 7 and hope for the best? Too bad, we've had good luck with our truck. 2002 explorer limited with 4.6L at 160k miles. I found time sert at amazon for $190, gonna give it a try.
DavesTreeFarm, the thing is i was expecting my ford to go 600,000 miles without a problem, thats what there made for!! these aluminum engines suck and so does whoever was in charge of this shit at ford, hes lucky i cant find him and they should do this work at at least half off and they wont do a damn thing!!!! thanks for the info about the time sert kit at amazon.
oh, btw...the kit is self explanatory ...wasnt bad at all...took me about 7 hrs because I know how my luckis at things like this... the job wasnt bad at all!
Inserts like the Cal 389-100 are thicker than the wire inserts most engine rebuilders use. If buying a rebuilt engine from Jasper or anyone else, you may have a thin inferior insert in 1 or more cylinders...food for thought.
You'd be better off replacing with engine with an aftermarket model. I heard recently that Jasper makes a decent replacement. The aluminum Triton engine is a piss poor design.
Nice job; glad you are happy with the tooling and inserts-to date there have been over 10,000 of these inserts installed! This is the ONLY Ford approved insert on the market.
this is f#$@% bull$@%&, i got a 2003 f250 V8, and now i gotta check to see if i have an insert, i guess ill just wait for the bomb to go off!!!! should i even touch the sparks? man IM PISSED!!!!!!!

When the vehicle is new, pull the plugs and put "anti-seize" compound on the threads.

The only way to fix these is with the Time-sert tool. Any other repair kit will not hold. take it from someone with a fleet of 50 V-10 fords...
