I think you idiots missed the point , it's no where what you're debating about. the inability to express emotions , stem from abusive relationships and failed marriages...bad upbringing. he's saying , don't hold stuff in and how to express your emotions in a healthy sense. not many people can comprehend this , contingent on the inability to break free from apathy and depression. they don't , necessarily lack the ability to express their emotions. it's like they're charged up.

They succeeded to an extend to "freeze" these processes, becoming apparently still, but really just numb. Both recovered by going to a farm and working with the earth. Nature is great to help us wake up when we strand in our egoic chaos. ^_^

Empathy is not an emotion. It is the ability to feel another person's emotions. The less you're entangled in your own emotions (e. g. because you've learned to observe and accept them out of a stance of inner stillness), the more able you become to be empathic.

@Katharsis540 Hmm, I can't imagine a person who found inner stillness through meditation, relaxation and surrender to the moment, being apathic. Surrender to the now means openness for your inner world and your surroundings. On the other hand, I also know people who got psych. problems through meditation because they had not been ready for it - their ego was still too strong and they got overwhelmed by thoughts and feelings of anxiety. But they hadn't really reached stillness.

@jdim80127 I know you have put a lot into it, and a lot of very spiritual people still do wrong or weird things. The pull of the ego is incredibly strong especially when one has so much power and loyalty. There is a intermediate stage that feels like enlightenment but is not, and it inflates the ego greatly. But I wouldn't give up too early. There are those who are sincere. I have become disillusioned as well. But I found that when I keep pushing, there is greater sincerity beneath.

Thoughtlessness or love as some people love to call it is not the answer to everything. Thoughtlessness is wrecklessness, immorality, and hypocrisy. You may think you are thoughtless but behindthat thoughtless stupid facade, all sorts of ideas and intentions, good and bad, are brewing. By the way thoughtlessness is only for a moment. The moment you open your mouth to speak you are no longer thoughtless and therefore no longer awake, as Tolle claims. Tolle keeps thinking and talking.
@MyAntijesus This is a misunderstanding that is very common in spirituality - the idea that we need to be clear of thoughts or be mindless zombies. The clarity without thoughts is more of an after-effect achieved through practice of awareness. The PRACTICE of awareness itself is like pretending to be a ninja, watching the whole world, your physical senses, and your internal issues with extreme sensitivity. When you do, you can pick and choose which thoughts really serve you and which do not.
Watching your thoughts and emotions is not the same as expressing them. You can choose to express or suppress them depending on the situation. You have to use your intelligence or your common sense, if you will. That is why we have laws and regulations, ethics and etiquette. Rules for behaviour. You cannot ignore or disregard them. Intelligence means being wide awake and being self-controlled. Don´t expect God to think or act for you. That is called mediumism and mediumism is stupidity.
@MyAntijesus The origin of good "intelligence" or "common sense" actually comes from being in a relaxed, expanded state. Then you are able to see clearly what is common sense. You cannot see it if you are wrapped up in anger or drama or trying to rigorously hold onto the idea of intelligence.You said it yourself - be wide awake - meaning paying attention/being aware. Being wrapped up in some idea of God will take care of things/using mediumship is actually just another thought, NOT awareness.

True love for others can't arise from the ego, which will only favor others who serve to enhance it. True love arises from the surrendered state in which others are not seen as merely tools to either enhance our ego or threaten to destroy it, but are instead felt in our heart as fellow human beings. Repression can definitely make you ill. Voice of experience here. Which is better: to repress so as not to harm others which then results in harming yourself by trapping that energy or express it outwardly and risk harming others or harming yourself anyway? That has been my dilemma for decades. No safe space to discharge or dissipate even knowing all the while it must be or threaten your life.
I learnt from my own experience also that, as Eckhart Tolle says, e-motions are energy in movement, the moment i started to let myself feel these energies that come like sensations in my body, they come....and they grow....and they go!!, so simple! and my goodness it took me a few years of my life to discover this Truth!!

@Hilallamaa thoughts are followed by emotions, therefore when a thought of this type comes, instantly comes accompanied with the emotion, negative or positive, then I stop focusing in the thought and I focus in the emotion, sooner or later, there won't be more emotions linked to those thoughts.
@bellazul2 I see what you mean. It seem to me though, and I've tried this in the past, that when I stay with the emotion, just feeling it, it tends to last all day or maybe even more than one day. And so, that I have to focus on something good instead to make it disappear... Would you still recommend to feel the feeling, until it dissolve?
@Hilallamaa Only I can tell what works for me, when I am not able to cope with an emotion then I use Bach flowers, they are my best friends. But I realized that when the emotion doesn't go is because I get into a loop of vicious circle with my thoughts and identify myself with them. Been aware of my thoughts and emotions all the time help me to be in the present and I allow myself to feel in the present whatever that comes.
Another thing to bare in mind is to don't take thoughts seriously, don't believe on them because they are not us, emotions are not us, we are the oberver of them, and when we stop identify ourselves with those thoughts and emotions another world starts to unfold.

Big piece from this talk...thank you! ...that it is important to express our emotions/anger and not hold it down....by releasing it..we make more energy available to us for other things in our lives. Also recognizing emotions/anger as energy and not to indulge in it or personalize it. It's so true that when we forgive others who have wronged us, we do so for ourselves so WE can be at peace. Great truths that take lots of practice! :)

But I hope that our natural empathy can be extended through meditation. Because, as a friend of mine said: "loving the world has become a matter of survival. We need to learn to love the world or it will destroy us!" I think he's got a point there ^_^

They succeeded to an extend to "freeze" these processes, becoming apparently still, but really just numb. Both recovered by going to a farm and working with the earth. Nature is great to help us wake up when we strand in our egoic chaos. ^_^

Empathy is not an emotion. It is the ability to feel another person's emotions. The less you're entangled in your own emotions (e. g. because you've learned to observe and accept them out of a stance of inner stillness), the more able you become to be empathic.

@Katharsis540 Hmm, I can't imagine a person who found inner stillness through meditation, relaxation and surrender to the moment, being apathic. Surrender to the now means openness for your inner world and your surroundings. On the other hand, I also know people who got psych. problems through meditation because they had not been ready for it - their ego was still too strong and they got overwhelmed by thoughts and feelings of anxiety. But they hadn't really reached stillness.

@jdim80127 I know you have put a lot into it, and a lot of very spiritual people still do wrong or weird things. The pull of the ego is incredibly strong especially when one has so much power and loyalty. There is a intermediate stage that feels like enlightenment but is not, and it inflates the ego greatly. But I wouldn't give up too early. There are those who are sincere. I have become disillusioned as well. But I found that when I keep pushing, there is greater sincerity beneath.

The clarity without thoughts is more of an after-effect achieved through practice of awareness. The PRACTICE of awareness itself is like pretending to be a ninja, watching the whole world, your physical senses, and your internal issues with extreme sensitivity. When you do, you can pick and choose which thoughts really serve you and which do not.

Watching your thoughts and emotions is not the same as expressing them. You can choose to express or suppress them depending on the situation. You have to use your intelligence or your common sense, if you will. That is why we have laws and regulations, ethics and etiquette. Rules for behaviour. You cannot ignore or disregard them. Intelligence means being wide awake and being self-controlled. Don´t expect God to think or act for you. That is called mediumism and mediumism is stupidity.

You cannot see it if you are wrapped up in anger or drama or trying to rigorously hold onto the idea of intelligence.You said it yourself - be wide awake - meaning paying attention/being aware. Being wrapped up in some idea of God will take care of things/using mediumship is actually just another thought, NOT awareness.

When I heard Eckhart Tolle say that after many times of contemplating his own suicide he heard a voice tell him, ‘Resist Nothing’... Let's just be honest where did this voice come from and what does he mean ‘Resist Nothing’? I don't think he's saying that when someone breaks into your house we need to just be calm and alright with it, but maybe he is? Now if someone is ready to commit suicide and it's clear that he doesn't love himself how can he teach us to truly love??? That's my question.

True love for others can't arise from the ego, which will only favor others who serve to enhance it. True love arises from the surrendered state in which others are not seen as merely tools to either enhance our ego or threaten to destroy it, but are instead felt in our heart as fellow human beings. went to church for 14 years....then read 2 pages out of a spiritual book and realized 95% of everything I've been taught was a lie...Thats powerful reading material, i knew it to be true in myself.....Christ did not have an ego, he taught just as eckhart teaches, these people who hate on eckhart and our common brother are cut from the same cloth as the ones who nailed jesus to the cross...they say BLASPHEMY, believe him and burn in hell for eternity

@00red00 Even if you achieved the "ego-less" state, you can still utter your name, your just not "identified" with your name. so you use the name as a convienance for others rather than yourself. Just as words can never describe the essence of a thing, your name can never describe who you are. Ego comes into existence through identification, cut identification and you cut ego. The Ego's fear of death makes people believe it is necessary for their survival, which is false.

@ideasforfeeling Ekart tolle is not just an information giver, He is trying to help people come to the realisation and experience of wat he teaches, thats Y he says things in round about ways, "hypnoticaly" as you say. Wat he teaches are his interpretations of his own experiences and, one of the things he says is that U cant truely understand the experience of presence unless you experience it. If all your looking for is more food for your mind then youve already missed the point

Repression can definitely make you ill. Voice of experience here. Which is better: to repress so as not to harm others which then results in harming yourself by trapping that energy or express it outwardly and risk harming others or harming yourself anyway? That has been my dilemma for decades. No safe space to discharge or dissipate even knowing all the while it must be or threaten your life.

I learnt from my own experience also that, as Eckhart Tolle says, e-motions are energy in movement, the moment i started to let myself feel these energies that come like sensations in my body, they come....and they grow....and they go!!, so simple! and my goodness it took me a few years of my life to discover this Truth!!

@Hilallamaa thoughts are followed by emotions, therefore when a thought of this type comes, instantly comes accompanied with the emotion, negative or positive, then I stop focusing in the thought and I focus in the emotion, sooner or later, there won't be more emotions linked to those thoughts.

@bellazul2 I see what you mean. It seem to me though, and I've tried this in the past, that when I stay with the emotion, just feeling it, it tends to last all day or maybe even more than one day. And so, that I have to focus on something good instead to make it disappear... Would you still recommend to feel the feeling, until it dissolve?

@Hilallamaa Only I can tell what works for me, when I am not able to cope with an emotion then I use Bach flowers, they are my best friends. But I realized that when the emotion doesn't go is because I get into a loop of vicious circle with my thoughts and identify myself with them. Been aware of my thoughts and emotions all the time help me to be in the present and I allow myself to feel in the present whatever that comes.

Another thing to bare in mind is to don't take thoughts seriously, don't believe on them because they are not us, emotions are not us, we are the oberver of them, and when we stop identify ourselves with those thoughts and emotions another world starts to unfold.

If you like Echhart Tolle then check out Joshiah in his book Joshiah Conscious Creation. The Information is channeled by Bub Hill. You spell it as JosHiah with an H after the S. Don't confuse it with Josiah from the Bible. Alot of the stuff they say is similar. Joshiah is a group of entities. Without discovering Joshiah from the television show "Beyond The Series" i would never have come across Joshiah or Eckhart Tolle here.
