@Coolrockndad How are they a joke? The Radical makes a very good very fast track day car. You aren't going to beat it for the money and get a track car that is that level of performance. The Atom is extremely close to performance and is street legal. Sure, it doesn't have a roof and things, but neither does a motorcycle. They both use the basic concept of less weight equals greater performance.

Looks to me like as a driver stepping in to them for the first time, then the Ariel Atom is easier to handle. Whereas it looks like she'd gain more time after becoming familiar with the Radical. They need to show us the Radical up on the hoist so we can see underneath too.

its very tricky to compare these two cars. the radical is a pure race car. its gearbox isn't designed to get quick form 0-60, because that's not important on the track. on a track with highspeed corners, the radical would be much faster. and those, who want to see the 300hp or 500hp atom, should compare it to the SR8 or the SR3-Turbo with equal power. the result will be the same; the radical IS faster, except you drive them on a very, very short cart-track, where aerodynamics doesn't matter.

It's true, I have seen a few of their races that really didn't seem quite right.

With a quick look at Wikipedia, the Atom's claimed 0-60 is 2.7 seconds (I don't remember if that was verified or not) and the SR3's is 3.8 seconds.

Even if not verified for sure, that's a HUGE difference!

both cars have the same power, so the acceleration time depends on gradation of gearbox. surely atom has the first and the second gear shorter, but then he needs following gears to be longer. it means that Radical accelerates better than Atom on higher gears and both cars have the same acceleration time from 0 to max speed because Radical catches Atom at the higher speeds.

Actually it is true that V8 adds weight to the car but please dont forget it is not a 4.2 litre V8 it is a 2.4 litre ones.

And according to Ariel the cars will weight about 500 kilos and becomes the highest power to weight ratio car ever produced with 1000hp per ton

Actually, as of June last year, it's a 3.0 litre normally aspirated V8, designed by Russell Savory.

The engine weighs only 90 kgs, which is *incredible* considering its claimed output is 500hp...

Should be able to blow any Radical away. ;)

I think the SR3 has the edge on the Atom. The 2.0 liter VTEC has a lot more torque but the Radical is lighter and has panels covering its inner workings, meaning it is more aerodynamic then the atom with its open-wheel drag.

I dont know her personally but I m not sure you are aware that to be a tv presenter you need other qualities than racing cars, what i mean by that is that a good driver may not be a good presenter, it's a compromise.

What got me irritated is that they should use a professional driver who drives homogeneous times... look at top gear, why do you think they use the 'stig'?? Clarkson is a good driver (as race drivers have said) but it is not scientific to use him for official comparisons...

The radical, as she says at the start, is a trackday car, meaning it's legal but impossible to drive on real roads, it can't get over a speed bump. The atom, though slower in straights, is better at cornering, and it's totally road capable. I know which one I'd pick,and it isn't the one with the motorbike engine.
