WE WENT TO SEE STEELY DAD WHEN THEY PLAYED AT THE 69 WOOD STOCK SITE WE NEVER SEEN SO MANY FAGS! EVERY TIME YOU TURNED AROUND THERE WERE FAGS KISSING AND MAKING OUT EVERY WHERE . THAT GUY HOLDS A SPECIAL IN MY HEART WITH THE REST OF THEM FAGS, UNDER MY THUMB
I thought the Night Fly was as good or better than all the Dan albums, with the possible exception of The Royal Scam. But it doesn't really matter. I have everything they have ever done and listening to them always brings a smile to my face.
I love Walter. He is in no way the lesser partner. Listen to book of liars or downtown canon if you think Walt can't write. The solo Donald stuff lacks the edge and that's what Mr. Becker brings.
Ummm...NO becker, you IDIOT! one of your pathetic, uninspired, simple minded guitar solos WILL NOT be your next finest moment! OMG, this butterfly brained ape is clueless! Don is THE talent and allows this bottom feeder becker shit to tag along. WTF....just dump him already will ya donnie? geezzz.....
@aristotled1 Walter Becker is definitely the lesser partner, but he is still a very accomplished musician who has been an integral member of perhaps my favorite band ever for like 40 years. He also pees more musical talent down the toilet every morning than you'll ever have in your entire like, so show some damned respect.
@aristotled1 Am I really seeing somebody hating on Walter Becker? That's........ what the hell is that? That doesn't make ANY kinda sense, especially coming from somebody who obviously appreciates Steely Dan's work.
@aristotled1 i´m glad i´m not your bandmate...maybeit´s you who is the butterfly brained one, since you forgot that it was Walter who brought in most of the well-written steely dan lyrics. Listen to Walter Beckers solo stuff, too, and then talk about his musical qualities.
Donald is the reason I started making music at an early age, a true gaint. You certainly have reach a finest moment in the past if you were able to call the greatest musicians in the world to play with them. Or even to play a solo (off 16 bars or even less) to get a message later on that your solo didnt make it. Top of the line in ensemble-culture, thank you Donald, for everything.
absolutely. I think it must be the only film of it's type. Kind of strikes me as someone who's sick with taking himself seriously. Love his music though...
i was hooked by Steely Dan when i was 10 years old and i'm 48 now and i am still loving the music they make. oh ! and by the Fagen was deep fried during that interview . Blame it on the Cuervo Gold and the fine Columbian .
@mrnipmip Same here. My mother was really into The Dan when I was about 10 (I'm 46). She loved the obvious ones: "Rikki", "Reelin'" and "Do it Again", but I was just enraptured with "Pretzel Logic" and "Night by Night" and "Chain Lightning." I've seen 'em live every chance I've gotten since they started touring again.
Guys you all do know that he suffers from major stage fright that even kept him from fronting the band in its early beginnings. Thats why if any of you've noticed that songs like "Dirty Work" and "Brooklyn [Owes the Charmer]" don't sound like Donald, its because the label at the time didn't think his voice or his stage presence was powerful or bankable so they hired David Palmer. Donald still suffers big time and you can tell if interviews like these.
@snorkelbda03 Fagen is a superb lyricist. If you have any doubts listen to his solo albums, which are pure poetry. He's shy, that's all. Shy, but brilliant.
Love it when Donald Fagen pauses and says "...maybe not." As if he was being too optimistic and needed to bring back the SD cynical side, very subtle humor!
I assume there will be no fart jokes when discussing what is funny?

@THXTHECRANE Yeah, I read their bio. I'm glad to know that otherwise I would have thought, all artists are not nervous, they just do it.
