Happy Birthday Maurice White who turned 70 today!!! Thank you for your legendary musical contributions and powerful legacy. Your fans all Love you and are forever grateful for your dynamic vision for creating the greatest band of all time "Earth, Wind & Fire".
Love this Classic here as it gets in your SOUL !!!! @mightywez.....It takes a small minded individual to post dumb comments. If you hated this SO badly why even listen or make a post?
Earth Wind & Fire were full of symbolism and signs, Their name, the name of their songs, their dress. These were incorporating their spiritual natures into their music. This song Serpentine Fire is not about war. Serpentine Fire represents the kundalini rising. Look it up! They are trying to say something deeper spiritually then the end of the world.
The wind will carry the fire, the fire represents physical pain. Why because this is how i stop madness, why things are going on that you not knoweth movements of equipment, plans of plauges, mobilizations of darkness as they gather to make war against the lamb which is a lion cause a lamb im not, im not a sacrifice.
@0ChildStar Interesting. I'm not sure of what to think of it other than it's a dynamite song. Philip Bailey himself said in a documentary that he, along with the rest of the band had no idea of what a "serpentine fire" was. He said he'll probably never know what in the world Maurice was talking about when he wrote that but they sang it anyway lol
@MJRookieRook, Really? I just know what my folks told me. I also heard it has something to do with yoga? My friends make fun of me for listening to old music. But, I do agree with you on this. Whatever Maurice was talking about. The song is a timeless classic. :D
@0ChildStar Yeah I used to get that all the time. Many of my peers would turn their noses up at what I listened to but I didn't care. All I knew was that it beat Souljah Boy, Lil' Wayne, Drake and Trey Songz. Music was so much better back in these times. Kind of makes me wish I was born early enough to see the best of the 70s and 80s.
The 60's music was pretty awsome too. The 70's was more of the classical rock era.Like Skyard an Led S,CCR. I miss those days as well the music today just don't have it. I wish I could go back in time sometimes just to relive the good music.
@VvAnarchangelvV, honestabe86 is pretty much correct. serpentire fire refers to kundalini energy. Loosely, its a feeling that starts at the bottom of your spine continuously rising until it reaches the top of your neck feeling like you have been hooked into a light socket. kinda like an orgasm times 25 or a euphoric high (lucy in the sky with diamonds lol!!!) their wiki page won't have it but if you look up kundalini energy you should find it. hope thia helps.
MUZIKNFILMZ has 'closed their account', which is probably YouTube's little lie for banned, but if anyone knows where there might be verifiable (music publications, etc) evidence of his definition of Serpentine Fire, either let me know on my channel or put it up on the Wikipedia entry for the song, 'cause it is not there now, and it is kind of a sad little article atm, with not much more than numerical statistics
I'll add one more ultimate tribute for EWF - many performers have covered the Beatles songs, but only EWF surpassed them on one of their own tunes - EWF's version of Got to Get You Into My Life blows the Fab Four's version away - and I am the world's biggest Beatles fan.
@MrVerncoleman Man you ain't kidding about EWF and TOP's horn sections - they gave that added spice that made those two groups sizzle above everyone else in funk - even PMent/Funkadelic. Giving Blood, Sweat and Tears and Chicago horns their due (I love both groups as well), I would rank TOP's horns as a slight favorite over EWF (although overall EWF is the better group) - I dont think people realize how many different albums TOP's horns were invited to play on.
@MrVerncoleman Man I miss the jazz-funk sounds of the 70s - it was the reason I took up the sax in grade school. First time I heard Lee Loughnane's trumpet solo on "Does anyone know what time it is" I was hooked. I have to admit though my all-time favorite funk horn solo is Bill Chase blaring on "Get It On"! That cat could cook. Unfortunately for every John Legend, there are a thousand synth machines and autotuners in today's music - LONG LIVE EWF!
@MrVerncoleman Brecker is one of the all-time greats - perhaps the greatest tenor sax since Coletrane. If I had to compare him to anyone else, I would call him the saxophone's version of Steve Gadd. There's a reason he's the most recorded jazz saxophonist in history - because other musicians know that Brecker will deliver a performance that fits in perfectly. No, I gave up the sax years ago - I still play a little bass clarinet time to time, but I mainly sing these days.
1975 - Briscoe Hall Indiana Univ. basement playing ping pong and someone had just bought this record and i couldnt' believe it -- another hit from EWF. Still remember the Pyramid concert a few years later...what a time...
ewf not only sounded awesome...they were the master teachers back in the day through their muse-ic. thank you to all the members of ewf for dropping science & positive energy! peace
The "negative" represents the magnetism...usually that is related to feminine...the "positive" is usually represented as masculine /electric...that is the serpentine fire...yin and yang...energy...and the sun sparks the serpentine fire when it hits the pineal gland...and he "allows" the negative/feminine to take over (not to many times) as he states it. 'The Battle' is to channel it not to allow the energy to get out of control...
Remember??? I SAW them live at the Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, I think it was the winter of '78. To this day it stands out as one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
I interpreted the song very differently. For my tribe in central america in guatemala serpentine (serpent) is the balance between cosmic energy and life giving enegry. I mean in their documentary no one know what what serpentine fire means.
The Serpentine Fire symbolizes the battle between good and evil!!---Back then, most music had a theme or concept behind it.
P-Funk, E,W&F, Stevie Wonder, even rock artists like Elton John, KISS, Alice Cooper, David Bowie were the same way...that's what gave rise to those elaborate stage shows of the 70's that I miss like hell!
then u may want to begin by not voting for obama. or reps. u may want to have the courage to simply vote third party, instead of cooperating with your fascist regime. quit bitchin' and do something about it. jerkoffs. only in the us do we have such ignorant adults. you vote for fascist politicians, but then you bitch about it like you had nothing to do with it. have the COURAGE to predict the future and vote third party, or shut the hell up. i love britney spears. yippee.
No it doesnt. The serpent gto a evil connotation from christian thought. The serpent is straight from eygptian divine awarness and the kundilni life force released we you become fully aware. Review what really came out of eygpt and you will see what is really being hidden.
Then why does the lyrics say "Surely as life begun, you will as one, battle with the serpentine fire?" Why did Maurice White himself in the video "Shining Stars" the Offcial E,W& F Story say that it symbolized the battle between good and evil? Not trying to start a fight or anything, but that is what he always said the song meant for the last 30 yrs...I figured he'd know.
Seems like this song is about the the battle against a adversary and victory against a evil force. Reminds me of a church song when they say "Oh yeah. oh yeah, oh yeah"...That part makes the song memorable. Maurice and Philip are great gospel singers too.
@rockjohnson80 You're correct. I heard Maurice say that he was studying Egyptology and metaphysics and he wrote the song as a classic battle which goes on inside of the spirit of man between good and evil. The song was the first single released from the ALL N ALL album. It caught a lot of people off guard because they didn't know what he was talking about. CBS hurried up and put Fantasy out as a single as a precaution. I'm into metaphysics so Serpentine Fire to me is one of their best tunes.
@MUZIKNFILMZ There was no "Your a Racist", Even by my friends that listen to the Outlaws,Molly Hatchet,or Skynard. Because my friends and I at the age of 40+ there is nothing like the Commodors,or Earth,Wind, and Fire to get us laid just by the first 2 minutes of a song. Put on 50cent..Not a turn on,But a cry for help.
@MUZIKNFILMZ Oh i ALWAyS ThOUqHT ThEY SEpERATEd.iT WAS LiKE 9 Of ThEM.SO i ThOUqhT 3 WERE EARTh.3 WERE WiNd.ANd 3 WERE fiRE.CRAZy RiqHT BUt ThANKS fOR bREAKiNq iT dOWN.WELL SAiD
No, the serpentine fire symbolizes the kundilini energy. Basically your spinal cord is the serpentine and the fire rises to your head or crown chakra. Its about higher consciousness.
then u may want to begin by not voting for obama. or reps. u may want to have the courage to simply vote third party, instead of cooperating with your fascist regime. quit bitchin' and do something about it. jerkoffs. only in the us do we have such ignorant adults. you vote for fascist politicians, but then you bitch about it like you had nothing to do with it. have the COURAGE to predict the future and vote third party, or shut the hell up. i love britney spears. yippee.
@MUZIKNFILMZ There was a visible AND invisible battle [in a continuing war] going on, and that battle, unfortunately, was LOST. The musicians, on a deep level, were CONCIOUSLY (some of them) using the science and art of music to raise the vibratory level of the people.
"Today's music ain't hittin' on shit!" AMEN!!!!!!!! Some people believe that that's by design. I can't prove that. But I wouldn't doubt it. "The Powers" saw how effective music was, and they worked to debase it [??]
@schism4291 This is 100% percent correct. Earth, Wind and Fire was trying to raise universal consciousness through the music. A lot of R&B and Soul was fashioned that way. Major record companies started closing down R&B/Soul?Funk divisions and Urban Contemporary and Rap took the place of uplifting music. True Hip-Hop even suffered. This music made you think and the powers that be don't want that, especially in America.
As usual EWF has done it again and again..so inspiring and so uplifting...I hear ther music and if I'm sad or feeling down I get such positive energy...
Hate the art work on the album cover, but I love love love the record!!!!
