  • Japan had no choice but to attack Pearl Harbor, America slapped an embargo on them for Christ's sake.

  • this movie was funny. DIARREA

  • First of all, people, this is NOT an anti-war movie. Secondly, the incident that took place in the movie was NOT the atomic bombings.

  • @Kari166 How is it not an anti-war film?

  • my grandfather was a medic in the Japanese Imperial Army in the Philippines and in Manchuria. as a Japanese living in the U.S., i give my sincere apologies to the people that my country has devastated and pillaged but my grandfather did not fire a single shot and he has more friends that he would like to remember than most of you guys ever will.

he is 95 years old and has been in and out of the hospital. war justifies nothing and it is sickening to hear people argue about who was at wrong.

  • The Japanese can apologise about the war, the US only justify themselves when it comes to killing civilians, it's the sad truth. Nothing can get through their selfish hard head of pride. Sure Japan killed civilians in China and Korea, but why did the US have to go and do the same to the Japanese civilians??? There is no good in war....only death

  • watched this again, and all i have to say now is that,

    this video proves it

that the amount of lives LOST in war,

will NEVER add up to the lives BROKEN because of it )):

  • Everyone seems to be focusing on the nuke at the end of the war. But it is the fire bombing the did the most of the damage and burned down many cities. Also, even after the first nuke Japan still did not surrenda. They where hardcore and still pushed their luck hoping America only had one nuke.

  • @banksy35 Actually, Japan had sent the Soviet Union terms of surrender to the U.S. before the atomic bombs were dropped. Truman was well aware of this.

You don't learn about this in American classes. You have to find a less biased history source.

  • @inukikyo89 I'm Not in America, America was seeking unconditional surrender - eg - no terms. Many had the view there was only one nuke. Like I said they where hardcore and pushing their luck.

  • @banksy35 And, Japan would have surrendered if they knew that unconditional surrender didn't mean giving up the emperor.

  • one thing i learnt from this movie thank god for the life i am having not perfect but i really know it now my life is far better than others lets thank god for the life he gave us

  • @chandusheker another thing I learned is that you may not know how important someone really is to you, until you lose that special person and feel so alone...

  • movie is about what war does and how it ruins the world.. not about which country is evil or isnt..

  • This movie isn't anti-USA.... it's anti-WAR. Get it in your heads.

It makes my blood boil when people put the blame of the war on any of the sides.... Whole nations is not to blame for war, it's the people leading the country.

  • did hayao miyazaki make this movie?

  • @Elric1011 no

  • @Elric1011 produced by Shinchosha, who hired studio ghibli (hayao miyazaki) to animate the movie... so kinda. :)

  • @Lauranthalsala oh okay

  • " she never woke up" i hella cried :"(

  • I saw this movie in social studies i was going to start crying when i found out the little girl died =(

  • i knew it when the ending of the movie was near that the little girl was going to die, but when she died it felt so shocking and depressing. This movie was one of the best movies i have ever seen, and one of the saddest.

  • Why is every single clip infested by people talking about how wrong Japan was, or America was?

This movie is not about blame.

  • @jurissprudence1972 You are right. I agree with you.

  • @jurisprudence1972 right! this movie is about the sad result of the blame! T______T </3

  • When A. Eistein invented the "H" Bomb he knew men would use it, he said that he regretted his invention.

The world was never the same and a Nation was forever scar.

Blessed is the men of Peace.

  • people say it's Japan's fault for the blowing up of Hiroshima and the other place, because they bombed Pearl Harbor...but it's not. America's the one who chose to bomb them. Not Japan.

  • lol the other place is nagasaki and if people say that it was a clear declaration of war then that is true. but even war has its limits and this was beyond. noone needs that kind of power. war should have tranquilizers, whoever has the most men awake wins.

  • @fraankyyuki1

It was the fault of BOTH countries. Japan blew up Pearl Harbor because they wanted to knock out the U.S. Pacific Fleet, they wanted to invade us. America therefore deserved retaliation, but they should not have used such a severe method to exact revenge. It was a mistake, and that is why America was the first and last country to use an atomic bomb on another, and why Japan was without an army for 50 years.

  • @salina100player oh wait, let me correct something.

The Japanese wanted to destroy the U.S. Pacific Fleet because America was petitioning to isolate Japan from all their petroleum imports if they didn't pull out of the Chinese war. Petroleum being as much a necessity then as it is now, they didn't like it. So after getting rid of any threat the U.S. posed they would occupy the Dutch East indies and Burma (2/3 oil exporters) . Then they could run their own economy.

  • @fraankyyuki1 you are right, but try to understand this, if America didnt bomb them, the other way was to invade them, and with that many Americans lifes would be lost, maybe even more japanese would die if US invaded them, the Japanese didnt surrender aafter the US warning before the first bomb, and they didnt surrender after it, only after the second bomb. i dont blame anyone, both did horrible things, war is a horrible thing that unfortunattly today people seem to not yet understand it.

  • @soubuemau Actually, that is wrong. Japan had already sent notice of wants of surrender to the Soviet Union which the U.S. ignored. Read some history books. =P

  • @inukikyo89 anyways, my point is, that war doesnt make sence at all.

  • @soubuemau Nothing makes sense if you don't know of what you are speaking.

  • @fraankyyuki1 we brought that up in history class when i was about in eight grade and i said "there is a major diffrence between killing soilders ready to die, and innocent civilians who werent ready to die"

  • @fraankyyuki1 Japan chose to bomb Pearl Harbor did they not? There would have been far more casualities had the US not ended the war then and there.

  • @fraankyyuki1 Its not just that USA descided to bomb the 2 cities but it was in 1945 end of WW2 there was no need to bomb Japan into submission or if they did then why a second bomb on nagasaki? To test which bombs were more powerful..

  • @fraankyyuki1 Nagasaki..

  • @fraankyyuki1 Japan chose to start the war that made their bombing an inescapable reality with the objective of ultimately preserving life.

  • yes the movie is an adaption of semi autobiographical novel i know how u feel but its one of the best movies that i have seen i think its anti war movie.

  • wow, thnks for spoiling.. -_-

  • i couldn't stop crying this movie is so sad its based on a true story with the same name the author Akiyuki Nosaka blame himself for his little sisters death and wrote it as an apology to her i love this movie its really amazing and tragic.

  • Is it based on a true story..!?

All I want to say is I'm really sorry

    about his tragic life...

I alwys cry when I'm thinking about this story..

  • The song "Heal the World" by Michael Jackson would be PERFECT for this.

  • the little girl died due to malnutrition. Shortly after, her brother died too. A very touching and loving story. Highly recommended

  • setsuko <3 ugh i cried like a baby :[

  • I think everyone cried after watching this..

  • Such a beautiful movie. EVERYONE NEEDS TO WATCH IT and not have these one-sided stories about Pearl Harbor! True. Japan did attack first. But America was just as bad. So we're both the bad guys.

  • such a good move but soo sad.
