  • Oh man, i still can't believe i saw him four days ago! Best night of my life

  • with wealth and fame, hes still the same.

  • They might as well be target lol

  • They had no idea back then that they would be so big, play in area's, have thousands of records sold. They deserved all that :)

  • not gonna be that big? HA! their well deserved fame has been very well earned

  • Hahaha "this is our families house that we grew up in."

It'd feel weird to have sex with someone who I pretended to be related to half of the time. But hey, I must admit, it does portray innocence and that's what they went for.

Jack White - you are one creative, artistic genius.

  • comeback please we all miss u THE WHITE STRIPES MUSIC HAS been dead since u left

  • @may301985 I disagree lol. I listen to them as much as I listened to them when they were together. Their music will not die.

  • Aw this is when thay were still pretending to be brother and sister!

  • HAHAHHAHA! OHH... the irony.

  • jack deffinately inspired me. hes part of the reason i started playing guitar.

  • great artists never make music wanting to blow up or be big but rather they do it because it satisfies themselves personally. So if you are making music for fame you should stop all of that reassess what exactly you are doing it for.

stop listening to shit music, study the classics, learn an instrument and god damn it listen to the white stripes. Minimalism!

  • aww i thought it was gonna be his house in Tennessee

  • Anyone know what this is from/where I can see the full bit?

  • @LuredoMarbery ya thats a good question!!

  • lol kinda cool watching this and looking over and seeing when they played at the Grammy awards xD

  • Lol he diddnt think his band would be big? I bet he watches this video now and cant beleive how far they came.

  • Year?

  • Well when you play good music ppl listen

  • omfg. he didnt think they would be that big?

they were one of the best bloody bands of our generation.

in my opinion, they may have been one of the best bands of all time

    bless him :')

  • Lol Jack was so f**king wrong

  • "I don't think this band is ever going to get that big"

  • Thanks for posting, I'm so glad you did.

  • "I don't think this band will ever be that big" "we dont write songs that will be top 40 hits" he really had no clue

  • i love that meg actually SPEAKS in this interview and even interrupts jack once in a while. she seems so much more open here. and jack seems a lot less into himself. btw, were they already divorced in this?

  • how can i get this documentary? i googled it but all i got was that 09 movie "it came from detroit" and that 99 movie "detroit rock city"

  • jack white, you fuk'n legend

  • I would swear that Meg was high during this interview. :)

  • @CocoaEnchilada Why, cause she was actually talking?

  • @CocoaEnchilada i would swear they both were =]. un-related to the high thing, but god i fucking love them.

  • @bezzubka they were husband and wife, he only said they were brother and sister to keep attention away from their relationship instead of their music, which is also why they got a divorce.

  • @inthedark45

They didn't get a fucking divorce to distance their relationship from the music, bro. Who the fuck does that? Of course, you're right about telling people they're siblings for that reason, though. I thought everyone knew that.

  • That's great. Man...

  • the thing that makes them different is that....they are white stripes. SCREW RED STRIPES

  • is that a bong on the table?!

  • is that a bong on the table?!

  • rewatching this now, most of it was obviously carefully calculated and jack doesn't do anything for no reason. you think he always intended to be huge and just made that comment as part of the act?

  • @bel6606 perhaps

  • It'd be cool if I got to sit between them & look really awkward :D

  • Meg looks like she had a wicked buzz!

  • I like how the house is all red and white

  • meg is so nervous

  • doesnt matter if he was wrong, im glad he was cause i love every bit of his music!!!

  • he was SO WRONG THEY DID BLOW UP THEY PLAYED GERMANY STADIUMS HIM AND MEG TOGETHER ROCKING THE WHOLE FUCKING WORLD I LOVE THIS BAND THEIR MYFAV MEG IS MY FAV DRUMMER Love from TEXAS

  • what the heck

  • the dutch guy is so lucky to be there ^^

  • haha jacks such a liar, we all know theyre not siblings

  • @foolinfoolin Atleast he fooled everybody for a while xD

  • This interview is funny. How wrong was he! Not playing arenas...pssssh. Although it must be great to only have to split their profits 50% and not 25% like so many others.

  • A short time later, Seven Nation Army reached Number 1and win a grammy for best rock song lol

  • thats what she said at 1:27.

  • lol

  • o man jake was so freakin wrong look at tjem now

  • Meg is so BAKED!!

  • I wish they were still together. :( I miss the white stripes.

  • @invaderzimgir2007 the white stripes r togeather, just not meg and jack

  • Man was he fucking wrong

  • I love how he was sooo modest.

  • i think the white stripes and the dead weather have some similarities in their sound. punk soul blues ROCK

  • damn meg is shy but verry cute

  • they are stoned out lol

  • "we wont be that big. it's impossible" can i say IRONY

  • Hahahahahahah!the irony is too much

  • i like tacos

  • wow we wont be back that big. we wont have top 40 hits. lol hes a legend now!

  • Please, for the love of god, where can I find this complete documentary?

  • And to think he was going to be in a movie with Jimmy Paige. Not big my ass lol what a cool guy :)

  • @hinjish is in a movie *

  • cool house

  • bitchin he's got a donnas poster

  • "this is our family's house we grew up in" LMAO

  • @swantonist I dont understand why he wanted to lie like this to everyone. I mean whats the big deal of telling the world that he was married to her? Its not decent of him.

  • @florencelovme I think Jack said that if people knew from the start they were married that it changes the focus from the music they play to the relationship situation of the band members .... i think : )

  • @WILK0S6 hmm, yeah I suppose Jesus forgives a white lie when it doesnt hurt anyone. I still think its a bit manipulative though. I dont think that a music band's worth can be credited to scandalous events if it really is worth the talent/effort/dedication. I mean a real rocknroll fan wouldnt care less about their marital status when they rock a stage. you know what Im sayin?

  • @florencelovme Oh aye i know what you're saying and agree with it : ) but i think if i was Jack i'd rather be talking about my music in interviews than answering....

"So Meg... she was your wife? but you're divorced? and you're still in a band?"

    Yes? xD

  • @WILK0S6 hahaha! Gotcha ;)

  • Are they smoking cannabis? Meg looks high as fuck lol

  • little did they know...

  • this is going on my favorites. how cute! "we're never going to be big enough to play arenas, you know." lol cute.

  • That's weird that since the beginning they pretended they were brother and sister.

  • lmao...never going to play arenas...wow

  • When is this interview from? "We're never gonna play arenas"... bad call on that one Jack.... thankfully!

  • id love to live in that house, red is actually my fav color...

lol they were absolutely clueless... not playing in arenas, not getting that big? i guess the best things from life are completely unexpected

  • i saw them play in 2003 in a basketball arena. You were wrong jack!

  • The end of this video still gives me chills.

  • 2:00

Jack says they're not going to be big"... you know we're not writing songs that are ever going to be heard on a national... uh scale."

    That's kinda cool to hear

  • "I don't think we'll ever get that big"

    hahahaha

  • wasn't Icky Thump in the top 10 for like 4 weeks?

  • exactly. i don't know when this was. de stijil i think. they started hitting the top when whight blood cells came out.

  • Jack Jack Jack. You couldn't have been more incorrect! LOL

  • Meg is always quiet but I think she seems more comfortable here than in a more 'hollywood' atmosphere, if you know what I mean.

I love how they had no freaking idea how huge and respected they were going to become. Not in that they're everywhere you look, but they have respect coming from the right places (Dylan, Rolling Stones, Slash).

  • yeah

  • @LillyCandyCane

Well, there's alot more reason to Not expect mass popularity, even if you are an American Idol type artist, there's just So Much competition out there. I think the're great, but I do see their fame as a fluke of sorts. There's a hundred bands as cool as gthem that will never get the break for whatever reasons. It's about Luck as much as talent, looks, timing.

  • Well obviously but they stood out from the crowd for a reason.

All breakthroughs are a fluke. But it doesn't matter whether everyone likes them/has heard of them or not because like I said, the people who matter have and that's an honour in itself. Of course there are a load of people who deserve to heard like them but aren't, but some get that chance and others don't.

  • haha he was so wrong

    there huge

  • 1:16

we could do it in a car

  • @danizdubine lol, do it

  • This is so funny. "I don't this band is ever going to get that big".

Jack has changed my life, hahah. Wow.

  • What? Coldplay sucks haha

  • "I don't think we're going to be playing arenas" - How wrong he was.

  • @LJAXD There success makes me smile. atleast some people who actually like music and doing what there doing are still getting famous. not to mention there actually talented.

  • @LJAXD :) really...

  • @LJAXD he's obviously being modest. only the most arrogant person in the world would say "we should get singed to a major label, start playing arenas and make millions next year or maybe two years tops. we're really hot shit right now. good question. next!"

  • She isnt high-Meg white is very shy, thats why jack white talks alot

  • red

  • i think that's jolene at the end.

  • i love what he says at the end. He has NO clue.

  • Yeah! haha

  • i know isn't that hilarious lol!

  • Hang on a moment. (im not really in tune with the white stripes so please dont dislike). Are jack and meg brother and sister and did they get married?...

  • they where married then got unmarried lol but they say there brother and sister

  • They're not. Jack's real name is John Gillis, he decided to use Meg's name after they got married :)

  • Both

  • hahaha! Oh! if he only knew what was in store for him.

  • theirs is an amazing and truly inspiring story

  • Haha! Were not going to get top 40 hits! Now collaborated with some of the biggest in the industry. A girl and boy with a band from detroit.

  • so they thought....

  • her laugh is like someone scratching a jagged concrete brick against a chalk board lol shes hot but....ughhguhghhghh

  • meg's so high ... watch 0:48 :-D

  • i would love to get high with meg....then bang

  • Haha Meg laughs funny

  • Heh, heh. "can't play big arenas". I saw 'em thump the hell out of Madison Square Garden a couple of years ago.

  • meg's laugh is so cute

  • isn't this the same dutch interviewer that interviewed john frusciante in his heroin phase?

  • no they were married but they told everyone their brother and sister after a divorce or something like that

  • for anyone who doesn't know, Jack took Megs last name when they married. they are now divorced, telling people they are bro/sis is a joke they play.

  • that is so funny how they say they grew up together in the house... LOL...

and then, the whole, we won't be that big to play arenas.... I had my ticket when they cancelled the tour a couple years ago... needless to say pissed as hell they cancelled..

Jack, Meg, we love you cause you ARE that good!

  • Your wrong lol their not brother and sister we've known that for a while now he even says hes kept her name after their divorce

  • see at the begining he said there famly house where they grew up, I still say there brother and sister

  • cool house, haha top 40, i bet some of there songs have hit in 5 before seven nation army, icky thump

  • Meg actually spoke!

  • lol at zebra

  • Is that seriously the inside of his house? He decorated his house White Stripes' themed? That's so trippy - I like their uniform, but having to sleep in a place with bold white, black, and red everywhere would probably freak me out after a while.

  • yes, that's the house he grew up in. he no longer owns it, tho.

  • lol the have a top 40 hit

  • and today, they have a top 40 hit... : )

  • jack and meg are tha greatest

  • ithat is one of the most ironic things ive ever heard lol....it amazing that he said that and what 8 years later they are prob one of the greatest alternative bands ever

  • aww that's so sad how he just put himself down like that

  • boy was he wrong hahah

  • I wish i saw this on tv..

  • i didnt know they smoke. weird.

  • haha hey don't forget old Ted Nuget the Detroit Motor city mad man

  • AND LOOK AT EM NOW! :D awesome..

  • this is really funny because theyre arguably the biggest band to come out of detroit. its a huge music scean there. I live there. He has played many arenas and has had top 40 hits.

  • That's debatable, lets not forget both Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop/The Stooges. But I group The White Stripes in with those bands, they're all amazingly great!

  • it's interesting to see this video now that it's really dated. I saw the White Stripes in an arena, funny to think he'd never think that he'd be so famous.

  • damn hes lucky pple like us are alive. I love the white stripes.

  • def jolene

  • definitely jolene

  • I'm kinda new to the White Stripes so please excuse the question. What is that song that's played at the end of the video??

  • It sounds like "Jolene"

  • I've always thought Meg was very pretty.

It makes me sad that she married a country star or whatever.

  • shes married to patti smiths son you know

  • Meg is sooooooooooo high

  • why is that thumbed down? i knocked it to a thumbs up for you. cause its true haha

  • Is this a documentary? Jack has a nice place!!

  • cool interview ya I think that's what it is...

  • See I don't know why everyone is so depressed and pessimistic these days. Jack White accuses America of not being artist enough, and we prove him wrong.

  • nice not ganna wright song that are ganna be top 40 or play any arenas lol best band in the world

  • haha thats funny he said they wouldnt be famous. dude. look at them now.

  • we'll never be big... FAIL! we all love u guys... how do u like that Jack?

  • haha he says that they would never have a popular song...then 7 nation army

  • i love how he has a donnas poster!

  • me too =D

  • typical..his house is red and white.

  • you know que falta en this house?? me dancing

  • UM hello....icky thump!!!

  • I love how close meg and jack are, even though they've divorced and everything, their still really close, brother and sister almost. I sometimes feel like that's the only reason meg is in the band, let's face it, she has pretty simple drum beats, I mean there just way to simple, I feel like she could play really well, but she just plays something so simple that everyone thinks she's just a bad drummer. I wanna see meg play something good on the drums!
