just woke up with an urge to listen to this song ... dunno why ... anyway, thank you for making it possible, it´s crazy how rare this song is on the web
I was at this show. 19 years old. Set 3 rows from the stage in front of Mike Mills. I remember this show well. Could not believe I was getting to see them play Murmur and Green all the way through. I was with two other friends. Lucky as hell to have been there. I was a huge fan then and still are now.
from the build and the stance it sure looks like bill (he played it on the album) with peter on acoustic andpeter holsapple on keys i'm not saying you're wrong but it sure looks that way to me
i must have listened to this song a hundred + times over the last 20 years.....and i have never failed to cry once....and i am a 6 ft tall 200lb family guy
My older brother had a superb record collection all on vinyl. I searched through there once and came across a cassette, I had a walkmen, about the size of your average brick. That cassette was the album Green. When this song came on I was transfixed by it's beauty and when Michael Stipe sing's 'It's OK', and really lets go, it's something else. One of the many, many reasons this band are so special. Great clip.
this song pretty much brings me to my knees... it reminds me of being a child and how solitary and isolated childhood is/was/can be for some. myself included.
..."the smell of swingset hands". IMHO, the best written lyrics coupled with the perfect arrangement to ever come out of R.E.M. That sing-songy style and slight whine (for like of a better word) shows the pain and loss of the "wrong child".
This song is amazing. I think it can be interpreted many, many different ways-definitely speaks volumes to me. But yeah, I can see it being written about a disabled child.
My favorite R.E.M. song. For those who wish to know the story behind this song, just look up a book called "under the eye of the clock" by Christopher Nolan ( no not that one ). Written by an Irish man with severe cerebal palsy. He won the Whitbread prize for literature in 1988. Interestingly he attended the same school as U2's Bono. U2's song "Miracle Drug" was written also about him. phew!
I am sorry, I am not trading now and I never would sell music. Try asking for this concert on some REM websites, I think many people have this concert. I think the cd's are better than the dvd. Good luck! :)
You've got some amazing videos! I think this might be 13th November in Atlanta. They played two sets that day: The whole of Murmur in order, and then the whole of Green in order. I think your Micro and the Melons video might be from the encore of the same show. Anyway, thanks for posting! Amazing stuff!
Yes, you are definately right! I am tired, mistakes are easy! I am glad you like the videos, I am trying to post unusual videos. Sometime quality is not so good, but I try my best. You are very welcome & thank you! :)
we are going to miss this guys so much... :(

Finally an answer as to where this song inspiration came from. I've always wondered, and it does sound like an outcry of a disabled child.
this is my fav rem song too and I did a video still to this song. check it out, I made the theme about child victimization.

Is there any book or website that has information as to what member wrote, or came up with, each song that we dearly love?

I'd love to hear R.E.M. do this live now, maybe as a surprise thrown in to their setlist. Eddie Vedder sang this one time.
