thats sick... i kinda wanted something like that so i can mount a camera on it take aerial photos and stuff for like homemade movies... or even to take to skirmish as like aerial spotter... so many useful applications...
I did the same thing for a project class this semester. only used a accelerometer (no gyros) so we couldnt get rid of the accelerometer "drift" but it worked out pretty well. got it to fly stably for a good minute.

What a waste of my time! It means nothing teathered. take it out and let it fly. That crap will just fall out of the sky. Your only fooling yourself.
Hey that's a pretty neat design.. Really impressive, and to be honest I am inspired to try doing something similar myself.. could you mention what 3-axis Accelerometer did u use?
This is the exact same thing I wanted to do, and for the the same reason. I want to say this is a really good project and a really good job. I wanted to ask if the controller you programmed on your microcontroller has allowance for other pilot input (FWD flight etc.?). I am really interested in this project if possible I would like to talk to you more about it. Thank you.

After all that , you may just use the board for addapting yourself a inhouse butler at your service. (sapian robots never stand up straight at taking courners !! )
what a great idea as a fail safe mode!! your heli is out of control,so you could just flick a switch in to auto-pilot..great stuff keep the good work up!
Its a great idea, I would love to see it work in flight, but honestly none of us are born pilots, it takes tons of practice and baby steps.Get a flight simulator and practice every chance you get, eventually your brain becomes the autopilot.
Thanks for your advise. Actually I tried the simulator, but I did not find it to be fun for me. I am more enjoying by creating of stuffs, rather then playing. The primary goal was a process of developing and learning of new stuff but not a heli hovering, independently manually or automatically. I am doing some testing of my system now and after muliple crashes I feel I am close to be a pilot already :)
Thanks. I also want to see it in real flight, but I need to perform additional testing before. Unfortunately I am not a pilot at all and it will be hard to control the flight manually if something goes wrong. Yes, everything done home by myself.
where did you get the 3 axis accellerometer & 2 + 1 axis gyro? Where can we get specs on these?

Hi,
Which software are you using for plotting graphs and what do they represent?

Hi, do you have the schematic of the board? And may I know what program is that you're using to monitor the stability?

it's only auto gyroscope, not autopilot

Good job. It seems very useful to fly beyond reach of your sight.

Hey there, I'm working on three ADIS16100 Z-axis gyros + one ADXL330 XYZ accelerometer. How do you eliminate accumulated error and thermal drift?
Alexrcpilot 3 years ago
Thats good if you want your heli to go scout around, mounted with a camera, and flys by itself.. much like the drones that the military is using..

I like the idea of a autopilot in an rc model. Especially if it can take control by itself and prevent a possible crash.

nice! good idea. but you do know that there is something called Robbe command, its a 3 way gyro, but its the size of like two gy401 gyros.
