  • But how do you know when the potatoes are READY to be harvested?

  • @buckstarchaser when the plant slitly whithers or dyes off

  • @buckstarchaser well you can eat them at any stage but if you want fully developed, and larger potatoes you'll need to wait till the plant dies. when the leaves start to either turn yellow or get crispy around the edges then its close enough. you can harvest. it can take up to 4 or 5 months.

  • Thank you very. You are so helpful

  • come on people harvesting potatoes si about the simplest thing in the world

  • how can someone dislike this video? never farmed potatoes before this year i am doing carrots. i cant grow potatoes sue the bad soil were i farm.

  • @mrflyfishingak Yes you can. You just need to grow them in a bucket large pot.

  • this guy is a potatoe tool

  • how you get keep regrowing them in the wid

  • This guy loves his potatoes.

  • Couldn't see anything he was doing. Just the text.

  • EW HE LIKES TO PLAY IN DIRT AND GET DIRTY :O ICKY

  • oops i feel one lol,u make it look fun man ,cool :)

  • man, this is so hard

  • Thanks for the great video! This is the first year I've tried growing them, but wasn't sure how to know when or how to go about the harvest. :-)

  • nice set up.to bad for you that you cant fool all. grass over potatoes? the plant is to green, the earth is to soft lets say. is easy to see that plant and potatoes was insert in earth by hand before filming.kind of noob you are

  • In my village we grow potatoes very nice and weller than yours. Russian potatoe vodka better than any czech or finland vodka you cannot deny this it is true. My followers will only allow our vodka to touch lips, it make you live longer and become strong man like a horse, you have very weak and tiny potato you understand me?

Aswell if you have a cold winter like a ice when do you removed potato from freezer-burn permafrost to eat right away? I ask because in my village there is a pig who drink

  • @zavidladygetter497 Kinda sounds like you have been drinking with the pig. I will bet you that here in Colorado we grow better and more potato's than you do in Russia and we don't make Vodka out of them. We eat them so that they do make you strong and healthy not drunk and stupid.

    Rowdy

  • Is it just me or are the subtitles REALLY annoying. They take up half the screen so you can't see what is happeing...

  • "and take your ti- whoops there's another one" lol xD

  • How bout in the USA how long will it take to grow

  • THAT GUY IS SO CUTE! <3

    N'AWH

  • LOL volunteers, nice one! ;-)

  • @SOIAx11x That is what they are called, not just by this dumb ass.

  • just yesterday i harvested my very first potatoes! red potatoes that i grew in a bag. so cool when you plant something and have success on your first try :).

  • how long did it take u to grow them?

  • took about 4 months. but you will only get a few small ones. they're delicious small. i wanted to wait a few more months to get big ones but i was impatient and started digging around lol. :P

  • @checkfoldcallraise if you wait too long to harvest potatoes they lose their flavour

  • @TheBradyoHead thank you. i will remember that. i have baby plants coming from new red potatoes. funny thing is when you think you've picked up all the potatoes, suddenly new plants start popping up by surprise.

  • @TheBradyoHead That would be a long time. I have used potatoes that were buried pretty deep and came out the next spring when I worked the ground and they were better than the ones I got in the fall. If they are kept cool (around 40 degrees) they just get a little sweeter as the carbs change into sugar. This vid is ridiculous. If you were raising enough potato's to last the winter it would take you all winter to harvest them. And this was a setup process, green plant, wilted, soil soft.

  • my 2 kids are called "spud" & "chip" why i hear you speak, well its all because of Doug and potatoes. You see when i was 14 i had my first baked potaoes and it changed my life. I have bocome bigger, taller i found i could grow a beard and after a few more years of eating "spuds" i could drink, vote and drive a car. i PUT ALL THIS DOWN TO EATING POTATOES, I JUST LOOOOOVE THEM

  • In response to all the detractors... I'm a green gardener (as in NEW). For a primer "how to" this series was thorough and concise. It gave me a grasp of the basics. Further, it gave me enough info and confidence to TRY to grow!!! It's a step in the right direction. Detractors... relax, post, and be positive. Let the viewers glean what they may from their (and your) videos. And if you have uploaded no videos... as the saying goes... "show me something better..."

  • i dont see whats so bad about at least they are trying help us accomplish something

  • Expert villiage videos are always so narrow, short and choppy. Why?

  • because it's like Wikipedia, anybody can submit a video to expert village as the "expert's" guide but most of them are not.

  • @BLuser01

im glad theyre short and right to the point. theyre not wasting our time with unneccassary information. i feel its more professional that way.

  • how do you know when to harvest

  • Comment removed

  • usually 3 months

  • Expert village really really sucks, I don't know why they are still operational.

  • next on expertvillage:

how to whipe your ass! followed by

    how to hold a pen!

  • I think they have the "How to Wipe your Ass" on the Arabic version of Expertvillage.

  • haha volunteers

  • why is this on youtube ;'D

  • so people like me can get an answer when they google "how to harvest potatoes"... :)

  • @kamalot77 That's exactly how I found it.

  • I have recently dug out my first own grown potatoes and they were the best potatoes i have ever eaten.I encourage everyone to plant their potatoes but do not forget the natural fertilizer and to dig through the soil thouroughly before planting lest you have a low yield.

  • Ooh boy can't wait to eat that

  • What is wrong with you, man?

  • after your potatoes flower, you can harvest "new" potatoes which have a very thin skin and won't keep long. I agree, this guy sucks, a pitch fork is sometimes helpful... If I harvested my 1 acre of potatoes like he does i'd be out there until the middle of december.

  • expert village u suck im sorry u really do

  • when do u know its time to harvest!!!????

  • wow!

A pile of dirt on your lawn with a previously dug up potatoe plant. and a two potatoes from a grocery store.

    Your a real expert

    Thank-you

  • hah

    either way

you couldn't do it wrong because you either get potatoes, or a new potato plant instead

    badass

  • I still don't know how to plant potatoes!!!!

  • put some old potatoes in a hole and water, its simple. lol dont know why they need to make videos about it, i grow mine all the time its EASY!!!

  • This guy needs to read up on growing potatoes.

  • Volunteers .. heheheh

  • I don't see a darn thing about planting them? What's up with that?

  • when u planting em then

  • that's video was ok i guess!!!

  • no it aint and i no it aint cuz i tryed it

  • what the he;ll;

  • how does this work?

you plant a potato and then there grows a plant out of it with more potatos?

    sorry im a potato-dummy. :)

  • yea you have to plant a whole potato and keep the soil really moist, well thats atleast what i did

  • You don't have to plant an entire potato. Just cut it into pieces with at least two eyes on each piece and plant those.

  • potatoe head!

  • bore

  • what happened to the beggining

  • Potatoes - gotta love em. You can get up to 20 spuds from one plant!!

  • i planted a roma potato and got 14 today! ^_^

  • Man, nice job! I've never got that many from romas. Try bismarks, they give heaps of spuds and the fully grown mature ones are great for chips.

  • I'll try them, the sound good.

  • They are! =]
