Classic Cuban family and my grandmother REALLY acted a lot like Abuela in this program, I always loved watching this sitcom. And like, OMG I had the same Cuban rocker that Abuela had in the opening credits!! WISH Telemundo or Univision would make a remake, LISTEN to Emilio Estefan, hint hint...
The last days of old Miami. It was so innocent back then (Compared to now anyway). Alot of older Miamians would say that the Cuban influx destroyed the city. Nonsense! It only added to it and made it better. The Pena family may have been Cuban, but they were typical of most Miami families of the time. They put family first, and lived the true American dream. They were productive citizens who were proud of their heritage and didn't feel the need to assimiliate to the point of losing it.
Thanks so much for uploading this! I have been looking for this show forever! So HILARIOUS, even though I'm not Cuban a lot of stuff as an immigrant from a Latino country is true. And OMG, I always though Pepe (Manolo Villaverde) was handsome!
Look at the Miami skyline. We thought it was so grand back then. Also, the scene on the school steps was Miami Senior High. The houses were so typical of the working class in Maiami at that time. Not just the Cuban working class, but all Miamians, Cuban, non-Cuban whites and African-Americans. Now the real estate agents want to tear them all down and put up high-rise condos. Progress? - Yeah, Right! Not Urban renewal, Urban Removal.
I remember watching episodes of this show in my high school Spanish class about 10 years ago. I'm going to try to see if I could find some episodes of it. Good show.
Omg I loveeeeeeee this show! I'm gonna try to find DVDs on this show it used to come on in 2000 - 2002 on the Spanish cable channels here in NYC nonstop, but then they stopped showing it.
yo veia este tv show cuando yo era chiquillo en el canal 22 de los angeles y en galavision pero aunque yo sea mexicano-americano me gusta este tv-show
I never understood a word of spanish, yet I loved this show, laughed at it, and appreciated it. I have very fond memories of watching it as a teen in 1978 on PBS out of New York. Yet it's only now as an adult that I can fully appreciate the effort and cleverness that must have gone into it so that even people who only understood half the dialogue could find it funny and understand what was going on.
That is no mean feat for the script-writers and I wish I'd understood their talent at the time.
I hate this show because our spanish teacher would make us watch it all the time-and we weren't allowed to talk. Some of the punch lines are funny tho, if you understand spanish.

You think they'll ever put this show on DVD, someday??
LeanaHM76 2 years ago
They have - all 39 episodes. Albeit, it's a tad expensive IMO. Do a Google search for "Que Pasa USA DVD". Should be the first link.
